It's a great budget hotel that's about a 5 minute walk from the train station. I had some nice runs along the Sakura river behind the hotel.

The staff is very professional and friendly, always ready to help. I have stayed here on four different trips for work. The location is pretty good, walkable from the station even with heavy roller bags. The property itself is very run down, but that is reflected in the price. If you are fine with chain restaurants there are plenty of places to eat. But, if you are a foreigner (even if fluent in Japanese) you will likely have a bit of trouble eating at many of the local spots as they will refuse to serve you. Mito is just sort of like that. With a bit of tenacity and patience, you can find some good spots that are more open to outsiders, but it still shocks me to be turned away by multiple establishments even though I can speak Japanese.

I'm surprised this was rated so highly on Expedia. The staff was excellent and tried their best with us not being able to speak Japanese. Cleaning staff were very good and replaced the sheets/towels every day on time. However, the hallways, elevator, and rooms were in unacceptable condition. Most of the carpets just need to be replaced in the hallways. The elevator just needs to be cleaned. The room's utilities work, but everything is yellowed from smoke and decay. There were burn holes in the curtains and the whole room smelled of smoke. I checked other hallways with some being worse and some better.

I liked the free drinks options, the location and the ease of check in. I didn't like the thermostat that would not lower the temperature in the room, the faucet in the bathroom leaked and even though I was given a non-smoking room it still had a "smoky" smell. So if you are sensitive to second hand smoke or vape smell it might not be the best choice for you.
