The HMNF (Huron Manistee National Forest) is literally just several steps out the door
All new for 2023: brand new and expanded bathroom. No more dingey standup shower stall. 32x60 shower with modern fixtures and new oak floor. It is fabulous and far more spacious for your most discerning guests. And yes the 18 gallon water heater was trashed in favor of a gas fired on demand whole house unit....enabling us to utilize a future antique clawfoot tub (hopefully by spring 2026. as of today's date this tub is still on the drawing board) in addition to an unlimited supply of the best northern Michigan hot water in both the shower (and future planned clawfiot tub) simultaneously if desired. I promise this shower is, hands down, the best one in town. No more 3 to 5 minute showers no more dingy stall typical of all other rentals. Anticipation!
New for 2024. joining the modern Era in a small way.....added a smart TV for those wanting to stream. wifi is online. also updating kitchen countertop and sink... wait til you see this splashy update.
all new for 2025. Fido deserves to be pampered too. on arrival fido will find his very own box of treats sheets and blankets. maybe even a toy or two. message for Fido…Fido, please ask mom or dad to show you how the sheets and blankets work. these are for you only to leave your paw prints. enjoy your stay here at BuckWild.
new for 2026. kitchen updated. you have to see it.
Additional note....please be accurate on reservations. The 175 per night (min stay is 2 nights) is for 2 persons. All additional persons are 40 each per night. And the one time $50 dog fee is additional as well. and ...I hate that I must state this.... but for example... if you reserve for 2 persons....showing up with 5 people staying on-site will incur an additional charge that is payable before access is given. Know that I do not condone attempts to sneak in what I call stowaways. THIS applies to both extra persons and dogs. Doing so is grounds for denial of access without refund. I will be merciless at my discretion should this situation occur.
Additionally, The indoor space is protected by a very fancy smart wifi connected smoke and CO2 detector for your safety. Outdoor security is provided via 7 outdoor cameras placed strategically around my 3 acres to protect not only your vehicles and property...but also my own things at my neighboring cabin where I reside.
Cabin access is easy. instructions provided prior to arrival via both text and email. We are also easily accessible by phone text or email. I am often living at my home next door to the cabin which you are renting should you need anything at all in a hurry. Again, we are often there on-site in next door cabin where I live. Stop by to say hello. Welcome to BuckWild.

We had a wonderful time at Buckwild! The location can’t be beat so close to downtown Mio and stunning rivers and hiking trails. 10/10 would stay again!
Great meeting place for a weekend with old friends
Visited the Buckwild cabin in Mio to meet with old friends. Enjoyed local activities, but also enjoyed many hours around the cabin's camp fire. Nice and cozy cabin. Welcoming and very communicative host. Great weekend.
This is a quaint rustic cabin reminicent of early 20th century. Nice and quiet on the edge of a northern Michigan town named Mio. The host is top notch and attentive to every need and question from his guests.
I rented for my parents 50th Anniversary. They absolutely loved the location and the cabin. They love rustic, quiet places with the up north feel.
They said it was a comfortable and peaceful stay. The property was beautiful and they loved the smell of the pines. Lot's of walking trails and things to do in nature.
The host was incredibly accommodating and made them feel welcome.
Thank you for providing a wonderful weekend for my parents!
We had a great time!!! The bed was a queen size and it was very clean and comforable. We had very warm showers too. There was plenty to do as it's close to Bull Gap , Wolf Creek, an the Ausable River. The hosts were very hospitable. They surprised us with kabobs for supper one night and the next night invited us to listen to music, talk, and have a couple of drinks in their Party Barn that they are currently working on. This place is perfect for a couple and we are definitely going back. The only suggestion that I have is that it needs to have curtains in the living room.
We had a Great time at this Cabin! The location is perfect and easy to find. The beds are comfy and the kitchen was perfect for preparing meals. The host is welcoming, has real-time communication and makes the stay feel like home. We look forward to returning!!
Jonathan was a very attentive host. The cabin cute and cozy is perfect.Centrally located to enjoy all that Mio has to offer. We highly recommend Buckwild Cabin for your getaway. Our fur baby was made to feel welcomed. We will be back again.
Cabin was exactly as described, loved the rustic feel, knotty pine interior and stone fireplace. My girlfriend and I along with our dog Ollie loved the property and the area. Jonathan was a great host and fantastic river guide. Will be back next year with a side x side in tow. Great area for hiking, canoeing, bikes and side x sides.
The cabin was roomy. The bathroom was up to date with great water pressure. The cabin is located just outside of Mio and is not far from many attractions. The host was knowledgeable of the area and was nice.

Had a great time riding the trails and enjoying some of the local festivities. Host was very friendly and accommodating. Cabin was very quiet and cozy but still close to town and the trails. Thanks for a great stay.
We absolutely loved our stay at this beautiful rustic cabin. Everything was spotless, and the cozy décor made us feel right at home. The host was incredibly communicative and friendly, making check‑in and planning seamless. Our only regret is that we could only stay one night! We’re already planning to come back during mushroom season and in the summer for a canoe adventure. This cabin offered the perfect blend of comfort and rustic charm, and the host’s hospitality made it even more special. Highly recommend!

Long Weekend
It was a rustic and relaxing setting. The neighbor across the road was very friendly and made our children and us feel welcomed. A good break to disconnect and relax for a couple of days.
If you do not understand “rustic” this is NOT the place for you. If you MUST have complete privacy (no doors on either bedroom) this is probably not the place for you. If you grew up camping in the 70’s and you miss it but your body has had enough of the cold hard ground - THIS is what you need! The doors and door handles take me back to visiting Great Grandma. The absolute charm of a northern cabin! Yet he has modernized the bathroom to the point of never wanting to leave. The hosts attention to small details- York peppermint patties on the bed stands, bag of treats on the top shelf with a box of toys on the floor for our dog, towels folded so you feel like you’re in a 5star hotel, 1/2 dozen farm fresh eggs and bottles of water in the fridge, the homemade brownies made up for the fact that the promised campfire was rained out. Jonathan should be very proud of all the updates he has made thus far!Icing on the cake- his knowledge of the area - where to fish, where to hike, good places to eat etc! We will be looking for this place when we’re in the area again!

Not ready for prime time
PROS: Rustic, clean, nice book selection, kitchen accouterments good, nice shower stall, one fire extinguisher, bathroom stocked well, bed linen nice.
CONS: No doors on the bedrooms, window coverings (shades or curtains) only in bedrooms & bathroom, no ceilings, leaky fireplace when raining, leaky bathroom roof when raining, no heat, no A/C, no outside locks, lock on inside door iffy at best, no smoke alarms, bathroom sink way too small, bathroom mirror hung too low to see face w/o leaning down, no ceiling fans (two floor fans provided).

Pictures of this property are deceiving!! We were warned it was rustic and we were fine with that, but rustic does not mean filthy. It was horribly dirty and gross. Also none of the windows are covered, no curtains or blinds and there were people at the cabin next door, very creepy and uncomfortable having people being able to look in. The sheets on the bed were clean but that was about it, the rest of the place was covered in dust and cobwebs and just filthy. Very very run down. Furniture inside the cabin was pretty cool and the decorations in cabin were cool but we could just not get past the filth. I couldn't even bring myself to shower at this place, 😩 bugs everywhere. Horrible experience. I do not recommend.
