Lovely Uptown Mpls apartment!
Welcome to the vibrant, diverse Uptown neighborhood of Minneapolis! Located just a few blocks from Lake Calhoun, Lake & Hennepin and Lyn-Lake shopping districts, this charming, vintage, non-smoking apartment (located within our duplex home; completely self-contained with a separate entrance) is available for rent year round.
Please note that we welcome guests of all ages, nationalities, races, religions (or lack thereof), languages and sexual orientation. No discrimination here, no profiling - just a warm welcome to all!
The apartment's entrance is through the back door on the alley side of the house, where guests have a dedicated off-street parking space big enough for a mid-size car, along with use of a lovely backyard with patio, table and chairs. The apartment has lots of board games, toys for the little ones, eclectic original art, and a Roku television with Netflix, Sling, and hundreds of streaming channels. High-speed wifi throughout for your streaming and internet needs, and a personalized guide to the neighborhood, with lots of restaurant recommendations and directions. Handheld remote-controlled mini-split heat, air conditioning and dehumidifier provide instant, silent comfort throughout the apartment no matter the season.
The apartment comprises the right half of the main floor of our duplex home and features a bedroom, living/dining room, small full bathroom, and kitchen. The serene bedroom features a queen-size bed with pillow-top mattress, memory foam topper, overhead fan, blackout curtains, and 100% cotton sheets and quilts and towels. Plenty of extra pillows, from memory foam to lightweight and soft.
The living/dining room contains a dining nook (seating for four), toys and books, an overhead fan and a small fold-down couch suitable for a child or small adult (there is also a cumbersome but comfy blow-up double air bed on legs in the closet). The kitchen is fully supplied with pots and pans, dishes, a full-sized refrigerator and gas stove/oven, microwave, coffeemaker, coffee grinder, French press, toaster and utensils. (No dishwasher.) Note that the living/dining room and bedroom can be closed off for privacy, while the bathroom can be accessed from both rooms.
The apartment has two closets and plenty of drawer space. Extras such as a hair dryer, iron and ironing board are included. Flower gardens surround both the house and the boulevard in season.
We love and welcome children of all ages. There are lots of toys and books for them in the apartment, along with baby supplies - a portable pack 'n play crib, a small stroller, and a bouncy seat - so you don't have to lug them along. Noise (crying babies, for example) doesn't bother us.
The Uptown and Lyn-Lake neighborhoods are renowned for their wide variety of restaurants, theaters, movies, shopping (both small indie shops and national branches), grocery stores both upscale and midscale, bars, music and people-watching. The apartment's "walk score" is 98 out of 100, which classifies it as a "walker's paradise."
If you like the great outdoors, you'll be in heaven. Bike trails, walking and running paths, sailing, canoe, kayak, paddle boarding, cross-country skiing, ice skating, snowshoeing, swimming and no fewer than ten gyms and yoga studios are all located within a few blocks. We are located three blocks in all directions from multiple bus lines, allowing quick access anywhere you wish to go in the metro area. The apartment is easily accessible via light rail and bus from the airport, plus Lyft and Uber, so if you'd like to avoid the cost of a rental car during your visit to Minneapolis, it's entirely possible.
Minneapolis is a beautiful city year-round, and we invite you to come enjoy it in all seasons. We love sharing our neighborhood with others and would be happy to help you with any questions you might have.
In addition to the apartment, please feel free to use the back yard with its patio, table and chairs, flowers, and herb and vegetable gardens. If you're arriving in winter with children, we have lots of sleds and saucers for your use, and we can give you directions to good nearby sledding hills.
Interaction with guests
I am a completely unobtrusive host (I myself dislike the hovering host syndrome) but happily available should you have questions or need anything, from restaurant and theater recommendations to insider tips on the best museums, places to take your children, runs around the lakes, and general sightseeing.

Comfortable, well-maintained accommodations on a residential street that's convenient to wonderful restaurants, shopping, cinema, and city lakes. My folks stayed here while visiting me and were very pleased with the apartment.

It is hard to imagine a better location if you want both quiet/privacy and walking access to the most vibrant parts of town. Alison is a great host, and the unit was clean, light and spacious. I intend to stay here in any future trips to Minneapolis

We really enjoyed our stay and did not want to leave! The place had all
of the mentioned amenities plus more. We loved all of the books and games. The bed was super comfortable. It was nice to have designated parking
and the neighborhood was very walkable to nearby restaurants and parks. Our host Alison was quick to respond to our questions, and was kind and friendly. Thank you for sharing your home with us!

This is a pleasant apartment for a week’s stay. The location was highly convenient with nearby access to a wonderful grocery store (Lunds), a great bakery (Black Walnut), wonderful restaurants, and glorious walks around neighboring lakes). We had our own off street parking spot. The hostess was very gracious. The apartment was well heated. It had sufficient room. We plan to check first to see if this apartment is available whenever we return to Minneapolis.

This apartment is everything it's advertised to be - not modern nor fancy but very functional. Know that there is not central air but a few AC units in the apartment for those hot & humid days so for light sleepers like me, the constant on and off of the AC was slightly disruptive. However, I cannot complain as Alison was more than accommodating for the needs for our toddler and surprised us with a signed copy of one of the children's books she wrote! She even printed my matron of honor speech at her home for us. We were very happy staying there, it was great to have our own kitchen and the kids toys and accoutrements were a huge bonus for us.

My parents stayed for 3 months at Alison's property this summer. It was comfortable and in a good location in Uptown. Alison was a great host and even shared some of her garden vegetables with them. They will be staying again next summer.

Quiet neighborhood, easy to walk to eats, shopping. owner was responsive to questions is txt-VRBO was more of a problem since they didn't recognize my acct.. This is an older home but still exudes warmth. Did not miss the TV,used the fast WiFi instead. I liked that different loose-leaf teas were provided. Liked the cheat sheets that were provided-clear & succinct and good starting point for explorations.

Getting into the apartment the first time was a little confusing but Alison's great instructions were incredibly valuable. Watch out for ice at the entry door in winter! Overall, strongly recommend staying in this charming apartment if you're coming to Minneapolis.

Great location for us to visit friends and family. Originally from the twin cities so we were familiar with the area. Nice comfortable older home just 5 blocks from an apartment we rented in the 80's. Very good information package and appreciated the welcome wine and crackers. We will rent here again next time we need a place to stay in Minneapolis while visiting from North Carolina.

Alison’s charming apartment had everything I needed: super comfortable bed, full kitchen, bathroom with a tub and shower that had a nice “rain shower” head, and a perfect location in Uptown relatively close to my son’s house.
Yes, it’s an older home — with a separate entrance in the back of her house — but it was sparkling clean. And she thoughtfully provided some yummy cheddar cheese and a bottle of wine and apple juice for me to enjoy.
I’d be delighted to stay again! Wonderful experience. Thanks, Alison.

Allison was a very kind and hospitable owner. The apartment was very comfortable, clean, and homey and I had everything I needed to make my stay enjoyable. I was delighted to find myself in the space of a creative writer and enjoyed taking a look at some of her many books. The home was in a convenient location and within walking distance to restaurants and a market.

positives: very responsive host, temperature control, dedicated parking, clean, full kitchen, Queen bed, nice appliances, plenty of towels/blankets/pillows, complimentary wine, cheese, & crackers and welcome card.
Negatives: Exterior flood lights never came on. Hard to see to get key in door lock. The inside light located in hall outside of guest door was only on for first night. The dedicated parking area entrance and near the fence needed to be shoveled.
The futon used as couch or for extra sleeping needs new mattress/cushion.

Alison was very attentive. We were staying during a remodeling project on our home, and working with contractors is not always predictable. As it turned out we needed to arrive a day early and stay a couple days longer. Alison was able to help us on both counts. Also the neighbors were quiet; barely knew they were there.

My young daughter and I enjoyed our stay here. This place has toys, books, and games for children. She loved reading all the children books, and the bench swing on the front porch. We also appreciated the welcoming snack which was great after a long day of traveling. We would stay here again.

The "apartment" is part of an older house. Its all on the first floor (on one half of the house). Heard no noise but our own. Could sleep up to 6 people (7 on a smaller couch) but was way perfect for our family of 3. Kitchen had everything we needed (less the food) and we were welcomed with a bottle of Pinot (which is my fave) and sparkling apple cider (for the little).
Everything we needed was within walking distance and the neighborhoods where full of life yet quiet. So would recommend staying here!
PS if you love to read you would be in heaven!

Walking in, I immediately felt at home! Books abound and there are games galore. Alison communicated early and clearly on how to get in. She lives next door, but was not invasive at all. She has stocked the place with kid friendly games, books and gear. The wine, cheese, crackers and homemade sweets waiting for us made us feel welcome.
Two issues to be aware of: the front room (with fireplace) goes immediately into the main bedroom, which then leads to the minute hallway with the bathroom, then onto the dining area with a futon and then to the kitchen-one long row of rooms. This can be tricky when you have other people staying with you who need to use the bathroom or you want early access to the kitchen. The second issue is there is no way to control the temperature of the unit. We stayed here during below zero temps and had expected to be chilly in this older home. The kitchen was a bit drafty by the window, but the bedroom was a bit too warm for our comfort.
It is wonderfully close to the Uptown shops, restaurants and bars along with Lake Calhoun. Alison has a wonderful write up on her favorite places.

This is such a lovely apartment with so many amenities and so much space. We loved the front porch swing, the flower garden, the different living and sleeping spaces, and the historic charm. We felt like we were visiting a home instead of a rental.
The neighborhood was even better than expected with the Lake Calhoun trail a few blocks away and so many restaurants in walking distance that we were bummed we could not eat at of them. The home is just far enough away from the busier streets that it is very quiet and peaceful.
Alison is a wonderful host. She has decorated the apartment with so much character and charm, I wish we had had more time to just sit and read her books. She even welcomed us with a lovely bottle of wine, complete with cheese and crackers. So thoughtful.
I"m very appreciative of her recommendations for restaurants - there is an overabundance of deliciousness a short stroll down the street.
I'm hoping I get a chance to return to Minneapolis and stay here.

When I was a kid, I lived in this kind of house. We came to celebrate an anniversary and watch a couple of ballgames. Rather than stay in our usual hotel type, someone suggested Uptown. Uptown is known for its nightlife. Nightlife for us is "a good nights sleep ", which we got. The area around us was quiet, but the nightlife is just blocks away, if that's what you want.
We took the bus to Target Field-took 15 minutes; didn't have to worry about parking. We where probably home while people where still getting out of the parking lot. And our team won both games! Bonus!
We also rented Nice Bikes, and went for a nice ride around Calhoun Lake. I was a bit nervous, since I hadn't ridden in a few years. It was easy with lots of bike lanes everywhere.
The house was great.
The instruction booklet was well laid out. Very helpful.
We made our own breakfasts and lunches. That kitchen is well supplied. It might have been nice to have had access to a BBQ
Vintage but clean, with a good bed.
The front yard is full of perennials. They share the space with the weeds. I like a more manicured yard, but that's a lot of work. It did give the property its own style.
