Sitio de Calahonda (often just called Calahonda) is a well-established coastal neighbourhood and urbanisation in Mijas Costa, Malaga — roughly halfway between Fuengirola and Marbella on the Costa del Sol. It’s a popular spot for both long-term residents and holidaymakers thanks to its relaxed Mediterranean lifestyle and range of local amenities.

Close to several beaches, including the long sandy stretch at Torre de Calahonda and nearby Puerto Cabopino, with beach bars (chiringuitos) and water activities available, and easy access via the A-7 motorway and N-340 coastal road to other Costa del Sol towns. The area isn’t far from Malaga Airport (approx. 40 km).



Getting Around:

Public Bus (Interurban)

There is a public bus service that serves Calahonda, though it’s not frequent:

Bus line M-119 / M-220 serves stops in the Calahonda area and can take you toward Fuengirola and other local hubs — helpful if you’re going to the main bus station or connecting to other towns.

You’ll find bus stops along main roads near your location — ask locally or use Google Maps for the closest one and updated schedules (Moovit shows routes and times to Calle José Orbaneja de Calahonda).

Trips to Fuengirola from Calahonda can take ~40–60 min depending on connections and exact route.

Tip: Public transport links are limited compared with larger towns, so planning ahead is advisable.



Car Rental

Driving is often the most convenient way to explore the Costa del Sol:

Roads are well-signposted (A-7 and coastal N-340), and parking is generally available in most towns.

A car gives you flexibility for beaches, golf courses, La Cala de Mijas, Fuengirola, Marbella, and beyond.
