View from a track west of Middleton by Wirksworth Looking north; the village in the distance is Bonsall. Strip fields can be seen in middle distance, right. Middleton was a farming community, long before the arrival of the quarries.Just to the left of the strip fields, the chimney of Arkwright's Masson Mill can be seen ( at SK 294 573 )

Green pastures A track goes south from Middleton to Middleton Top (on High Peak Trail). Just to the east of the track is a depression in the ground, about 100 metres across. On the 1:25,000 OS map it looks like a tongue piece in a jig-saw and that's the dip in a fairly level pasture.
