Loved the house. Rustic and cute. Heat worked great, beds were super comfy, and had all the essentials we needed! The hard floors were a little dirty and that was a slight inconvenience as we had little kids and a baby rolling around- but overall the stay was great! Would recommend if visiting Dillsburg, Harrisburg or nearby areas.
If you find yourself in this area, this is the perfect place to stay. It has everthing you need. It's comfortable and quiet. We were 5 adults who came to this town for a family wedding and were super happy with this lovely home. I'd stay here again if I found myself in this area. Mary Ann J
A group of my classmates booked this location to give us a quiet place to stay while we attended Jim Thorpe Days at Carlisle Barracks, Army War College. Three Rooms with comfy beds made this a nice place to retreat after the games. Depending on traffic it was a 15-20 minute drive to the post. There is a laundry room downstairs that doubled as a nice cozy corner for my dog that traveled with us. Over all a highly recommended location.

Liked: Location, listing accuracy
Disliked: Cleanliness, communication
The house was as described. It’s an older farmhouse so there are some cute / fun quirks. Unfortunately it was all overshadowed by the lack of cleanliness in the house and poor communication. There was hair everywhere, the towels smelled moldy, there were bugs crawling all over the walls, and crumbs / dirt throughout the first floor. We tried repeatedly to contact the host via VRBO app and email, but we couldn’t get in touch until after our stay ended.
The house was clean with a nice kitchen. I would recommend stocking a few more kitchen items if ppl making meals while staying. Stairs are super steep and coming out of bathroom or bedroom can be iffy in dark bc of top step placement. Bed was super comfortable and the bathrooms spacious. It can get a bit humid without the air conditioning, esp at night. Yard was spacious and well kept with a fence. It was a comfortable visit. I will say the road noise at night with train combo can make sleeping hard but I used white noise on my phone which helped. The house is a nice stop for quick to weekly stays.
We had a family wedding in Mechanicsburg and chose this house because of the proximity to the venue and access to other points of interest in the area. The house is spotlessly clean and comfortable. It is on a busy road, but the traffic noise was not an issue. The fenced yard is perfect for dogs. As mentioned in other reviews, the stairway is narrow and steep, but this is an old farmhouse; and none of our party had issues with that. The only problem we had was the electronic lock. It’s finicky, but we learned: do not tap a number to light the keypad. Hit the “home” button, then tap your code. Problem solved, and a lovely home.
We enjoyed our stay at The Farm House. It was conveniently located near all the attractions we wanted to visit, including Hershey Park, Carlisle, and Gettysburg. The home was clean when we arrived, and the beds were comfortable. However, the house lacked a homey feel due to numerous signs posted throughout with strict instructions ("do this, don't do that" type notes), which made it feel less welcoming.A few things to keep in mind if you're planning to stay here: the kitchen has very limited cookware—no oven mitts or colander, for example—so it may not be ideal if you plan to cook. Also, the stairs are extremely steep and could be unsafe for anyone with mobility concerns. We received frequent reminder messages during our stay, but had to reach out multiple times before arrival to get information, and the responses from the host were delayed. While the house itself was nice and well-located, we likely would not choose to stay here again.
Clean, Comfortable, and Dog-Approved – Just Bring Earplugs!
We had a great stay! The fenced-in yard was a huge hit with our dogs—they loved running around and exploring the fire pit area. It’s not easy finding places that accommodate multiple dogs, so we really appreciated the host being pet-friendly. Pets need vacations too!The bedrooms were clean, cozy, and comfortable, and we were pleasantly surprised by how well-stocked the house was with essentials—plenty of toilet paper, paper towels, trash bags, plus thoughtful extras like dish soap, laundry detergent, and even Q-tips. The host also provided a helpful binder with local recommendations and kept in touch before and during our stay. Very responsive and welcoming!A couple of things to note: light sleepers might want to bring earplugs as cargo trains do pass by throughout the day and night. The water pressure in the bathrooms was a bit low, and the kitchen could use a few more basics for meal prep—like measuring cups, mixing bowls, and decent knives.Overall, though, the positives far outweighed the small inconveniences. We felt comfortable, well taken care of, and grateful to have found such a pet-friendly spot. Would absolutely stay again!
