The best area to stay in Maragoli is within the central Vihiga town area, particularly around the Vihiga County Headquarters.

This central area provides convenient access to local amenities and is a good base for exploring the wider Maragoli region. You'll find a selection of guesthouses and hotels here, along with local shops and eateries. The main Vihiga-Kisumu road runs through this area, making it easy to connect to other towns.

For solo travellers or those on business, staying near the county headquarters offers practicality. It's a busy hub during the day, providing easy access to transport links and local services. You'll find basic hotel options that cater to short stays and offer a straightforward experience.

Couples looking for a more relaxed setting might consider guesthouses slightly outside the immediate town centre but still within Vihiga. These often offer a quieter environment while remaining close enough to access town facilities.

The best time to go to Maragoli is during the dry seasons, typically from December to February and again from June to August.

These months offer pleasant weather with less rainfall, making it ideal for exploring the region and engaging in outdoor activities. The roads are generally in better condition, and the clear skies provide excellent visibility for sightseeing.

For travellers interested in cultural experiences, visiting during these dry periods allows for easier access to local markets and community events without the disruption of heavy rains. This is particularly beneficial for those looking to connect with the local Maragoli people and learn about their traditions.

For those planning to explore the natural beauty of the Vihiga hills and surrounding landscapes, the dry season ensures comfortable hiking and walking conditions.
