This Tyrolean treasure features some of Zillertal Valley’s best ski slopes, year-round glacial skiing and a dynamic après-ski scene with plenty of clubs and bars.

Mayrhofen is Austria’s gateway to the stunning ski slopes of Zillertal, or Ziller River valley, in between the Penken and Ahorn mountains. The ski resort offers runs for skiers and snowboarders of all abilities. Discover the snowboard fun park, the steepest marked run in Austria and exciting village nightlife. In summer, try scenic hiking, mountain biking and hang gliding.

Visit the Tyrolean village to explore the lively resort centre. Hit the shops or the ski rental stores to get fully equipped for your activity of choice, if you didn’t bring your own gear. At the village, book ski school classes to prepare for the diverse ski runs on Mayrhofen.

Discover a range of slopes from beginner to expert. Mayrhofen is widely known for its selection of short, steep runs, perfect for experienced skiers looking to practise their downhill technique. Advanced skiers can explore miles of black runs, including the renowned Harikiri, the steepest groomed run in Austria that inclines at a fearsome 38-degree angle. The nearby Hintertux glacier offers ski slopes throughout all seasons.

Enjoy Mayrhofen’s other exciting activities. Try a trip on a Ski-Doo or go snow tubing, tobogganing and ice skating. Paragliding, horse riding and snowshoe hiking are also available.

Mayrhofen is almost as famous for its après-ski activities as it is for its slopes. Afternoon drinks in a mountaintop hut can turn into an exciting night out at the gondola station bars and village dance clubs. Visit Mayrhofen in early spring to experience Snowbombing, the biggest music festival in the Alps.

Mayrhofen has two major gondola cable cars that reach the peaks of Ahorn and Penken. In total, Mayrhofen has 53 lifts spanning 83.2 miles (134 kilometres) of marked slopes. Purchase a super ski pass to access all gondolas and lifts in the Zillertal. Mayrhofen is easily accessible via train from Vienna, Milan and Munich. The ski season runs from December until April.

Somewhat disappointed with its commerciality. It is not a typical tyrolean small town, and has become dominated by hotels and souvenir shops. Local walking opportunities and public transport are excellent. No grocery shops open on Sunday.
