If you’d like to experience an authentic ryokan with onsen and terrific kaiseki dining this place is a good choice. Although the facilities show some wear and tear, overall it’s clean and adequately maintained. The staff ensure guests feel welcomed and taken care of. I would stay again.
This is a very well maintained traditional hot spring inn. The staff was very helpful and friendly. The baths were wonderful after a long day of sightseeing. We opted for the breakfast which was excellent. Highly recommend if you want a taste of traditional Japan. Matsumoto castle was beautiful and we happened to hit a day when there was a local beer festival.
This is out of town, but I’m a sucker for traditional onsen ryokan. This place has aged well, rooms are spacious, there is a private onsen on the top floor for 40min usage, and there are a couple of great restaurants 10mins walking distance around. Lawson out the front. Staff were excellent. Only stayed 1 night but would go back. Great if you have a car.
Yumotoya is a little long in the tooth, but still a lovely and comfortable place to lay your head. Staff was helpful and friendly, and the facility is kept clean and tidy, even if it is getting a little old (although we found the Showa Era charm to be part of the appeal). The private Onsen was wonderful, and offers views of the surrounding city and mountains.

This ryokan has a rustic feel with its traditional design. The staff are warm and welcoming. The Kaiseki-style breakfast and dinner were sumptuous with a wide spread of traditional Japanese cuisine. Only complaint though is that the wifi access is only available in the lobby area and not in the rooms. Overall, it was an enjoyable experience at Yumotoya. Highly recommended for those looking at traditional ryokan stays in Matsumoto.

This is a cute ver traditional ryokan. However it is in dire need of a remodel. Many stains on the carpets and walls, ripped wallpaper, more mold in the baths than I’m comfortable with. The rooms themselves are nice and clean but all the amenities are quite old. Has enough parking for only 3 cars so keep that in mind. Very very friendly staff though, and the food is wonderful! One big problem however is WIFI is only on the 1ST FLOOR! NOWHERE ELSE! So if you want a quiet device free stay, it’s perfect, if you’re low on data, maybe skip this one.
We stayed here with a large group. Our rooms were comfortable, and the food was amazing! Staff were extremely friendly and accommodating and the onsen were nice. Close to all Matsumoto sights but in a quiet neighborhood. Id definitely stay here again!

Nice Riokan
Food was excellent and staff were very friendly and helpful, although didn't speak much english. The only downside was the facility was a bit worn -stained carpets, peeling wallpaper, and musty smell

The staff were very nice, and the use of google translate helped bridge language barriers. It is 10min from Matsumoto driving. Regarding value for money , it was average given the facilities are also fairly dated. I am comparing to other stays at similar guesthouses .
Arriving in a taxi, two men graciously took our luggage up to our room while we checked in at reception who greeted us by name which was posted on the door to our room. Slippers available for our use were stored on a shelf to switch out our shoes. The room was spacious with the futons already set out. There were two tables in the room - one with chairs near the windows and one between the table and futons at floor-sitting level set with tea and a snack. After dinner, fresh tea supplies were waiting.
The dining room is a beautiful space with slatted screens set up between some tables, giving the illusion of privacy. Tables are assigned for the stay. Our waitress was lovely. She explained everything (in Japanese.) Dinner and breakfast were both traditional meals - each plate delicious - some courageous bites on my part. For me, the highlights were individual shabu shabu and excellent tempura. The same woman served us breakfast.
After dinner, it was onsen time! On our floor happened to be a private onsen, but we opted for the public gender-separate baths. The women's at night had an outdoor bath. Beautiful night air. In the morning, the onsens were switched, so we enjoyed the other set of baths. The shower room was very comfortable.
We missed the bus from Matsumoto Castle because of a misunderstanding of exits, so we took a taxi which cost around 1600 yen. In the morning, the bus stop back to Matsumoto was right outside the door, and someone from the ryokan waited with us.
Ryokan sympa et calme, avec un bain privatif, pour les tatoués ou les timides, un repas du soir à 5500 yen qui etait delicieux et copieux, une cjambre tres grande et organisee a lancienne, avec les futons installés pendant le diner sur les tatamis
