Marrick High Mill and Dales Beck This lead smelting mill was built by Thomas Swinbourne in about 1660 and has been described (*) as "the best preserved 17th century lead smelting mill in Britain, and possibly in the world." Staff excellent. Setting beautiful. We stayed in the old house which had real charm, but was a little tired. Beyond the historic house is a conference centre, with spa. We ate an evening meal in the 1744 restaurant which was well priced and very tasty.
