Like staying at home away from home. The town is small with just enough conveniences and centrally located to all the mountain wilderness you could ever want.

Peaceful retreat close to everything
We really enjoyed our stay at this beautiful cottage! It's the best of both worlds... we had all the modern amenities of home, but were surrounded by the WV's mountains and natural beauty. It was close to everything we wanted to see in the area; walking distance or a short drive to just about everything. There's a trailhead literally across the street. We rented a bike from the shop a few blocks away and spent hours exploring the Greenbrier River Trail. Our 9 year old actually spent more time outdoors than he did staring at screens!Beds were super comfy, showers were hot, house was spotless. Wifi worked great, was able to do a little work from 'home.'There are a few restaurants within walking distance, but was also nice to have a fully stocked kitchen to cook dinners together. There's a grocery store and beer store a short drive away. Highly recommend staying here if you're looking for a comfy place to lay your head after hiking or biking around the area. We'll definitely be back this winter for skiing at Snowshoe!
Had a wonderful stay in Marlinton. The house was in a great location - walkable to everything. It was so clean, nice amenities, and the check in /out process was so easy. I would absolutely stay here again on our next trip to Marlinton!
Very clean and cozy, and walkable to many shops & restaurants. The street is safe and quiet. Just what we were looking for! My only recommendation is to add a tea kettle please :)
Perfect location for lodging on the bike path. The house was fine, but honestly a blind added to the back door would be great for going in and out of the bathroom without being seen from the backyard.
This property met our 3 C's - clean, comfortable and convenient. We stayed here for a few days while visiting family in the area so we were only at the rental through breakfast and an hour or two in the evening before going to bed. The kitchen was well equipped right down to condiments and sodas in the refrigerator. There were plenty of towels and other basic household supplies in the closets if you needed them. I regret that we didn't have more time to enjoy the great selection of books and games. I'd recommend the home to anyone that needs a place to stay in the Marlinton area. It is a great value.
The house was very clean and well stocked with information about the area, kitchen equipment and food essentials, games, books, etc. Thanks for all the extra details. The place was extremely close to the bike trail which was our main interest, but we were also able to walk or bike to several restaurants and shops. Very quiet and peaceful stay in a beautiful area of West Virginia. Would recommend to anyone looking for a relaxing getaway!
So the quick read is: Property 5 stars, Management company 'Evolve', and by extension VRBO 1 star, for an average of 3, since VRBO demands an 'overall' rating. The property is essentially brand new, excellent condition with the exception of a dated tub/shower (?) and includes a locking storage shed for bikes, etc. The owners are very helpful and quick to respond to questions, and have done a very good job of creating a welcoming and pleasant place to stay. One of the best properties we've stayed at over the years. Now, 'Evolve' the management company is another story. Despite VRBO stating that we could have cancelled and received a full refund as late as one week out, 'Evolve's long contract (which ACTUALLY governs your stay) expressly says 'no refunds' including even natural disasters. Also, 'Evolve' charges a damage fee (not a deposit). The rep stated it was a service to us because we wouldn't have to worry if anything got broken--it was already covered! And VRBO's damage insurance won't negate the damage fee, they said. Evolve also charges their own management fee, on top of VRBO's. This is to cover the cost of charging you the damage fee, presumably. In the end, our total out of pocket was just shy of double the published rate, despite VRBO's repeated claims of no hidden fees. We've trusted VRBO (over others) for years but now wonder if we should continue. IMHO the owners deserve a better management company than Evolve. Proceed very cautiously!
