Relaxing Sierra Sunrise Family Getaway w/ EV Level 2 Charger - 4 bdrm 3 1/2 bath
We are looking forward to you spending your vacation in our spacious, comfortable, and well-appointed 3000 square foot single story home. Our home is very relaxing and situated on 5 acres on a sunny mesa with views of the foothills, Sierra crest, and Carson Valley in all directions. Kirkwood, Heavenly, South Lake Tahoe, Grover Hot Springs, and local hiking, fishing, bouldering, snowmobiling spots, and casinos are all <26 miles drives away. Our large great room and kitchen, 4 desk/work spaces, flat front and back lawns, bunk room, comfortable beds/linens make it a great place to relax, play, and work for families and groups. The front and back porches offer great lounging spots as well. We have added faster Internet recently and a level 2 EV charger.
Our house is on a large 5 acre lot with lots of space to stretch out in and away from the congestion in South Lake Tahoe. We have a whole house generator for reliable power even if there are wildfire danger related power shutoffs. We are 23 miles from Kirkwood Ski Resort, 21 miles from Heavenly Ski Resort's Stagecoach lift, and 9-13 miles from the Markleeville/Grover Hot Springs area & 26 miles from South Lake Tahoe. We are at 5400' elevation so you may feel the elevation a bit as well, especially if you go for a walk on Sunrise Trail. Trips to the eastern Sierra and Yosemite National Park are also possible as long day drives with the house as your base.
The MAX occupancy of the house is 10 people (not including infants.) Exceeding this limit will result in loss of deposit and a negative guest review.
Our Alpine Country Business license is #6929
We always come to the house with big plans and end up spending our time relaxing on the back porch or in the living room admiring the views, making a big meal in the huge kitchen with our friends and heading to bed early for a great, quiet night of sleep to recharge! There are plenty of details about the house below, but if you don't feel like reading, feel free to send us a note and we'll happily reply to answer any questions. I've been going to the Sierra for ~20 years now and am happy to share what I know about it.
Mike
PS Also please note that the house has many amenities (cribs, high chairs, strollers, & changing tables for little ones included that may lighten your packing load for your visit.)
HOUSE AMENITIES We have a nice big flat lawn in the front and back of the house (sometimes it's green depending on our sprinkler system temperament :-)). There's a nice space to lounge/play outside as well as porches on the back and front of the house. This is a desert area and is very dry and windy. The house is also convenient for parents with a separate bunk bedroom with a TV and 3 high chairs, 1 full size crib, 1 mini crib, 2 bassinets, 1 infant swings, double and single stroller.
WHAT TO DO/WHERE TO GO Please note the grocery stores/Walmart/Hardware Stores in Gardnerville (20-30 minutes away) are quite extensive (ex: we've bought silver noodles and crab legs there), so no need to truck stuff up there unless you want to or don't want to drive to the grocery stores. We have 3 different pairs of cross-country skis that anyone is welcome to use. The last sizable grocery store (Safeway) on the way up from the bay area is near Martell Rd. near Jackson. There is also a Lowe's and KMart in Martell as well. You will have even more selection if you drive 30 minutes to Carson City which has just about every store you could ask for.
The house is out in the middle of nowhere, but that's part of what is great about it. Hope Valley is 15 minutes away and beautiful and a great place to start for level hikes. There is a hot springs above Markleeville with some nice short hikes as well. If you want something more adventurous I can recommend those as well and we have all our hiking books up there (Mt. Tallac and Desolation Wilderness are 2 classic hard Lake Tahoe hikes).
The views are pretty nice even outside the house and the roads are very quiet so just a stroll outside on Sunrise Trail is rewarding. We are ~20 minutes from Caples Lake where they rent kayaks, Lake Tahoe is about 30 minutes, and Carson River is just across the road. There is a movie theater in the nearest town of Minden/Gardnerville about 25 minutes away. The Eastern Sierra is ridiculously beautiful and Mono Lake, Yosemite Tioga Pass entrance, Mammoth, Bridgeport, Bodie, Bear Valley, Sonora Pass are all doable as day trips from the house with 1-2 1/2 hours of driving 1-way. The fall colors in October can be striking with snow covering the mountain tops and yellow aspen trees. Northern Lake Tahoe resorts are 1-2 hrs. away.
In Gardnerville, we can recommend Overland Pub for a better meal and Woodett's Diner for a traditional diner breakfast.
WEATHER
During the winter it may get as cold as 0-10 degrees at night. Our house is at ~5400' elevation. We generally don't get pounded by 3+ feet of snow like Tahoe itself during the winter, but you may wake up to a 1 or 2 foot snowstorm during the bad storm weekends. The county plows the road, but may take some time to get to the local street.
RECORDING DEVICES Please note we use the cameras at the door and on the front yard and driveway to confirm guests abide by the house rules at check-in and during the stay. Any cameras pointed at the back yard will be turned off during the guests stay.

This place was amazing. The views are absolutely stunning. Super spacious and comfortable and the neighborhood was so quiet and just relaxing. The house was just perfect for our trip.
Our group of men, (70+) has a tradition of an annual gathering for 41 years. Until Covid hit we camped in the Markleeville area. We are now comfortable with a house rental. This is our second year staying at 255 Sunrise Trail and the home suits our group perfectly. We feel comfortable and at home in this house.
Where to begin!
Gorgeous location. Close to South Lake as well as Carson Valley. Beautiful all around View. Good privacy.
All the best amenities- the MOST comfortable mattresses on every bed! Best sleep any of of have had at a VRBO. The whirlpool bathtub is great! The kitchen has all the things! Cooking was a breeze. Large dining room table for family dinners.
Pool table for fun time. Little kids toys. Several computer stations if you want a working retreat. Games, videos, books, cable TV… literally all the things!
Outside BBQ, propane fire pit to sit outside cozy, great grass yard for kids to play. When my younger grandkids came over, cribs in rooms to have them nap!
The owner was easy to communicate with. I look forward to staying again!!
Thanks!!!
The home was beautiful and had every amenity you could possibly need. The surrounding area was amazing, ranging from desert to forest, to mountains. And the property is very close to shopping in Gardnerville and Minden. Perfect vacation getaway.
Lovely home, lovely setting, lovely stay. This home is well situated for exploring the area, as well as for rest and relaxation without going beyond the driveway. The house is well so well equipped we had everything we needed to feel right at home. With so much room to spread out, our group of 8 was very comfortable. So pleased that this property was available for our annual event.
Gorgeous home, that is well stocked and immaculately clean. Plenty of space to relax, play games and cook. The owner is extremely responsive and took all measures to ensure every inquiry we had was addressed promptly to optimize our stay.
Thank you, Mike and we hope to be back another time!

Winter Getaway
My family of five spent four winter days here and had a wonderful time. The house is remote (which is what we wanted!), but groceries and amenities are not far away. We hiked through the snow, went sledding, and enjoyed many hours just hanging around the house. The house is very well equipped, comfortable, warm, welcoming, and well-kept. There was even a Christmas Tree which made the kids very happy. Thank you for letting us into your home for our winter holiday!

Lovely Home and Location
Wow, what a great home! The house was spacious and comfortable, and I really can't say enough about the amazing views from both the front and back yards. We loved the morning and evening visits from the rabbits in the backyard. The kitchen was well stocked. We had everything we needed. The home is easy to get to and is well situated for accessing Hope Valley and South Lake Tahoe. Michael was very helpful both before and during our stay and was quick to respond when we had questions.
The property was a great location for the wedding in Gardnerville NV. We had a great time and enjoyed the area. Wish we could have explored the area more, but loved the area we did see. Thanks for everything lovely home.
Thanks
Bill, Jo & Family
The property was ideal for our family to come together after two years of not seeing each other. It is very well maintained with large windows so the natural light streams in and beautiful scenic views.
It has several open spaces both inside and outside for gatherings and has a very well-stocked kitchen for preparing meals and a large BBQ for grilling. Nights were ideal outside by the firepits.
The owner, Mike was very attentive and wonderful with answering questions and accommodating our requests. Our stay was right after the fires and he was very helpful with updates on the area.
Highly recommend it as a lovely retreat for family gatherings.
Mike is a great host. He responded to our questions quickly. We like the location of the house since it is in the middle of nowhere and we want to get away from the city. We were able to enjoy the beautiful view from the backyard. Unfortunately, there was still fire in the area so we could not relax and barbeque in the backyard. The house is well-kept and very clean. We feel like we are in our own home. The house is fully stock with household supplies so we do not need to buy anything extra since the town is about 20 minutes drive. I definitely will be back here if we decide to have another family reunion. I like the house since there are plenty of bathrooms so we do not have to wait for our turn. The kitchen has plenty of pots, utensils, forks, knives, etc so we don't even using our own that we brought with us.
Mike the property manager is excellent with communication
The house has everything. Games and toys for the kids
To great music in the Stereo.
Very comfortable and you will feel like you are Home
Draw backs are
Any shopping is 18 min away. And large supermarket would be 30 min away
Had a great time and worth every dollar

Beautiful location of Home & clean and well kept home!
This was a pleasant surprise and stay for us as a family away from all the city noises and lights.
Even though it’s far from South Lake Tahoe, there are other options like Grover hot springs and hikes near by. Unfortunately most of the places around were closed due to Fires.
Home is very clean spacious and well kept. The owner Mike was prompt in responding to any questions we had. Overall it’s a good experience and stay here. We will definitely come back again! Thanks Mike!
This will be the fourth time I have stayed in this home, and it never disappoints. The house and location are beautiful, and the owner is very responsive to any issues that may arise (which is a rarity). Could not ask for a better place to stay. It is my family's go-to for this area. You will not be disappointed!
This is a beautiful home that is located in a spectacular spot. It is quite far from Tahoe if that is where you want to spend most of your time. But it is a destination in and of itself.
The home is set in wonderfully perfect surroundings that is just what we were looking for to get away from it all. It is peaceful and laidback. This home was the cleanest rental I have been to. The place was spotless and the hosts had paid attention to the smallest detail. From a well stocked kitchen to comfortable mattresses, this home was perfect.
The host was proactive and detailed in his communication and we had no trouble with the check in or check out process.
We would certainly head here again.
Great property, but the “hot tub” is a jacuzzi bath tub
When our family wanted to get away for a few days for spring break, our search criteria was 4 bedrooms and a hot tub. We love Alpine County and this house seemed perfect! The location is remote enough to feel like you are away from it all, but sits between outdoor recreation in one direction and Minden/Gardnerville/Carson City amenities in the other. Our initial disappointment upon arrival when we realized the property did not have a traditional hot tub, but rather a jacuzzi bath tub in the master bedroom, soon dissipated with a few rounds of pool and a beautiful view of the Sierra. This custom built home with a well appointed kitchen, comfortable beds, luxury linens, big back yard and lack of near-by neighbors made our trip better than expected. It will not disappoint (unless you are expecting a hot tub that a family of 5 can sit in together). We even woke to snow one morning, but the home remained toasty warm, thanks to automated hvac in addition to the gas fireplace in the main room and master bedroom.
Love this house! This is our third time staying and it never disappoints. Michael is very easy to work with and has thought of everything to make your stay comfortable. Highly recommend this house!
Amazing safe haven during our evacuation and covid.
Beautiful remote property. We were evacuated from wildfires and found this place last minute. Because of the pandemic we wanted to be far from neighbors and people we don't know. This was perfect. The owner was incredibly helpful and the house is very well thought out. You can tell that the owner's take great care in all of the details and actually use it themselves and notice all of the little things that often go unnoticed if the owner never visits themselves. All of the bedrooms have both shades and curtains that actually keep the light out! Driving from California we wondered where we were going but once there you can easily get to stores in the other direction. It is peaceful and quiet and 3 to 6 bunnies visited the backyard every evening. There is even a purple air air quality sensor on the house which is so helpful during these times. All in all we definitely want to return and are so grateful for the way the owners went above and beyond for us.
How can I start? This is my first time using this app, and I honestly was a little skeptical overall. The owner of this property is on it with everything and made sure from the beginning till we left that everything went well.
Location: It seems away from everything but it is not it is literally 30 min or less from Lake Tahoe.
House: This house is BEYOND beautiful, pictures do NOT do justice. The king suite is HUGE and is in the other side of the house. I loved everything about this place. Outside, their back yard is HUGE and beautiful.
COVID CLEAN: BEYONG! They even gave us hansantizers and masks for free! The housekeeper cleaned everything so nicely ( we got to meet her) it was beyond clean.
Family: It is a VERY family home, it has two cribs! and utensils and even a grill and a fireplace in the back!
PS. we WILL definitely be coming back next summer!
My friends and I came across this house since we were planning on visiting Lake Tahoe. This house is perfect and not to far from the lake only a 30 minute drive. The house was very clean and has more than enough room for multiple family or friends to stay at with amazing views of the mountains! The owner is very friendly and was able to answer all my questions about the area! Will definitely be back!
