A can't-miss stop during a tour of the coast. This microclimate gives a small glimpse into the beauty and diversity of a rainforest. Wonderful staff, beautiful surroundings. Trails that can be enjoyed repeatedly. LOTS of birds to identify. It's an eco-reserve, so expect critters and bring good insect repellent.
I had an absolute amazing time while staying at Pacoche Lodge & Reserve! Johnny and his family were the kindest people I've ever met. I was travelling alone from Canada and they treated me like family. The jungle walk is so beautiful and unique. This is hands down the best jungle tour in this region of Ecuador.
I was able to see howler monkey's eating fruit from the trees on the property and Johnny showed me plants that were used for medicine.
His wife cooked some of the best food I've ever had. Local shrimp and fresh veggies.
I would recommend this place to everybody, do yourself a favour and book a few nights here. :)
We had a wonderful stay at the Pacoche Lodge. Ana (the owner), Fabiola (the chef), and her husband Johnny (the manager) couldn’t have been more warm in their welcome and desire to make us feel comfortable.
The meals were outstanding; we understood Fabiola is completing a culinary program—and that’s evident.
I have only two recommendations: the bedroom pillows were too full for our comfort (it hurt my neck to use them, so I folded up a blanket to use as a pillow—I think my husband chose not to use a pillow). And, I would suggest buying a higher grade of black tea. My husband is a coffee drinker and we were told that he was being served the same local coffee that was available for sale (we bought a package). I was offered the generic tea from Super Maxi. As I usually carry English black tea with me, I used my own at breakfast.
We were seeking a peaceful respite and we certainly found it. We’re hoping to return.
Interesting .. in an isolated, jungle-like environment. Clean, comfortable, open air. However, it wasn’t the best choice for our last night in Ecuador as there is no wi-fi, no cell service, no TV. May have been bad luck for us but no hot water or water pressure for shower. Enjoyed conversation with owner at breakfast.
Great experience to be surronunded by nature. Monkeys, all kinds of birds, snakes and also insects... It has its own private trekking paths. Great if you are a nature enthusiast and don't mind to be completely disconnected. It only has 2 cabins, so there are lots of chances to be alone, if you don't mind it it is fantastic to be absolutely in contact with nature.
Staff was also great, Jonhny and Fabia are great guests, they love what they do, and also cook pretty well. They don't speak english, so be patient if you speak 0 spanish...
