#Mandore Garden Abandoned since 1459 CE, the ancient town of Mandore is just five-and-a-half miles north of the tourist haven of #Jodhpur, Rajasthan. One of best-preserved sites here is the Mandore Gardens that stand strong to tell the tale of a bygone era. Over the centuries, Mandore served as the capital of many #Jodhpur kings, and even witnessed several invasions from different dynasties, including the Muslim rulers of #Gujarat and #Malwa. So, in order to protect #Mandore further from invasions, the capital was shifted to the hilltop #Mehrangarh Fort, as it offers better safety and protection to the royal kingdom.

Tips: Beware of Indian monkeys here, they can snatch cameras, phone, water bottle or anything you get your hands on.

It’s a bit out of Jodhpur City. But a nice place to wander for an hour or two if you have a free afternoon. It has a for that dates back to the 4th century.

Less frequented by travellers, we found Mandore Garden to be exquisite, if a bit mismanaged. The ancient architecture of a bygone epoch and a patch of #green in the arid town had all our attentions grasped.

To get this shot of Ranisar Talab lake behind the majestic Mehrangarh fort of the blue city of Jodhpur in Rajasthan, India, we had to step outside of what would be most people’s comfort zones.

We had to traverse a wild, rocky desert landscape, navigate a steep incline, pass through a tiny doorway in an ancient crumbling fort wall, and then clamber up a steep slope of rubble and loose rocks to get up on top of that very same fort wall.

Once at the very top of the wall looking out over the lake, I had to back up to the very edge of the wall and avoid falling to my death to the ground over 30 metres below, just to get that perfect shot.

This was an off-limits part of the Mehrangarh fort complex where the vast majority of tourists almost never venture!

Epic shots often have epic stories behind them! We wanted to bring this issue to light, as many people don’t understand that if you want to take extraordinary travel photos, you sometimes have to be willing to do extraordinary things and step far outside of your comfort zone.
