Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Makini?
The best area to stay in Makini is generally within the main township of Kimbe, as Makini itself is a smaller, more rural locality without dedicated tourist accommodation.

Kimbe is the capital of West New Britain Province and the primary entry point for visitors. The town is situated on Kimbe Bay, known for its clear waters and marine life. You'll find the main services, a market, and some local shops along the main roads, which are straightforward to navigate. Most accommodation options are located close to the town centre or along the coast just outside.

For those interested in exploring the region's natural beauty, particularly its world-class diving and snorkelling, staying in Kimbe is ideal. Hotels here often collaborate with local tour operators to arrange excursions to the coral reefs and volcanic landscapes. This makes it a convenient base for adventure travellers looking to experience the unique marine biodiversity of Kimbe Bay.

Couples looking for a relaxing escape with opportunities for gentle exploration will also find Kimbe suitable.
When is the best time to go to Makini?
The best time to go to Makini is during the dry season, which runs from May to October.

During these months, you'll experience less rainfall and more sunshine, making it ideal for outdoor activities like exploring the local markets, visiting plantations, or enjoying the coastal areas. The drier conditions also mean easier travel on local roads, which can become challenging during the wet season.
