This is a comfortable, well-equipped home with great ocean views and nice stone-beach access. It was a good place to kayak, and we enjoyed trips to view puffins, to the FDR cottage at Campobello, Great Wass, and Roque Bluffs.
We loved this house and the location! We've stayed in a nearby house for many vacations through the years but needed something bigger, and this house was perfect for us. It's quirky and filled with art, and beautiful ocean views. The upstairs layout is a little funky (one bedroom is only accessible via adjoining rooms, and one large bedroom has the back staircase in it) but it was totally fine for us. Our kids loved the visiting chickens and walking to the beach each morning.
We had a wonderful week staying at the house. The house, yard and beach was perfect for our family. The neighbors and the area are so welcoming and we enjoyed the area. There are so many things to do in the area or you can just relax. We would come back again.
If you're looking for a large house on a quiet, relaxing part of the Maine coast, you'd be hard pressed to do better. The views were just fantastic. The house was large and comfortable with a good kitchen, comfortable chairs and couches (and plenty of them). Plenty of bedrooms (be aware that one bedroom is a "pass through" bedroom) with good beds (I slept like a rock). The house was spotless (no mean feat in such a large house) and communication with the owner was easy. All in all, I'm very pleased with the entire experience. Excellent vacation and this house played no small part in that.
The house is better than described. Nothing is llacking, sparkling clean. This house has very typical late 19th century character and rambles, creating great spaces for quiet times. A great family place.
This is our second 2 week stay for a reason - the site and house are ideal for our needs. The air, light and views are inspirational for my wife's painting. Her easel never left the propertty. I write and the words just flowed, Grandchildren retired to various nooks in the house when it rained or played on the beach or weekly mown grass. Daughter and son in law decompressed.
We all left anticipating next year.
We all traveled from Ohio (1 from Colorado) for our family vacation. Staying at this home I felt that we had stepped back in time, as it is a historical home. The scenery was amazing from both inside the home and outside the home. We had several grandchildren with us and there was plenty of room for them to play and explore. When we asked family members what they liked about our trip to Maine, the beach was at the top of the list. This home has a private beach area that we spent hours at! It is a distance from many of the local attractions but we are a family that truly enjoyed the privacy that this home provided. We enjoyed our day trips to some of the local attractions including Bar Harbor, Acadia park, and the lighthouse at Lubec. We were all very sad to see our week come to an end. If you are looking for peace and tranquility at your next vacation this is the spot for you.
Plenty of room for all of us to have some alone time, although we spent most of the time relaxing on the deck taking in the beautiful panoramic views. This is a sunny spot, and the weather was perfect all week! It could use another umbrella for shade because the deck is full sun most of the day, but we sat at a picnic table on the shady side of the house to get some reprieval. Charlie delivered lobsters every other day, and at $5/lb we certainly over indulged! The house is older, and has a ton of charm, but it is in need of some much needed updates. The neighbors are very friendly, and our daily walks to the beach and across the land bridge were phenomenal! Someone shot off a great fireworks display across the way from us on our final night to cap off a wonderful week! A couple things to note for anyone considering a stay here… There is a rooster that woke us up daily around 7 am that is right next door… and he is pretty brave, coming right up to the house and onto the deck to “cockadoodledoo!”. If you are not an early riser on vacation, this can be frustrating. The house can get warm during the day without air conditioning too. Other than that, this place was great, and we enjoyed our stay at this charming, secluded old beach house. The blueberry pies at Helen’s Restaurant are not to be missed!!
No problems getting in and the kitchen was large enough for us to cook for 10

This is a wonderful house in a great location with a lot of space and terrific views. We had an issue getting in at the appointed time, and the coffee maker is in dire need of replacement, but these were minor gripes in the big scheme of things. We've stayed here a few times now and undoubtedly hope to again. Highly recommend.
Had a wonderful time in Starboard. There is an outdoor shower that was great during a cool morning/evening. Nice and quiet property with amenities close enough to keep you in vacation mode without having to go without "needs".
My family and my brother-in-law and his family stayed here for a week, the location was perfect. Beach out front was great, attractions close by, grocery store not too far away. everything you could possibly need as far as cooking or bedding or anything like that was in the house.
Property was just as advertised. A beautiful and quiet retreat where one can get lost in all the best ways. Plenty to see and do between the bay and surrounding hiking areas.
The Sea Captains House was complete bliss to our family. We loved hearing the calming waves and the serene beauty of Machiasport. The house was beautiful, clean, and comfortable. We didn't want to leave and hope to be back soon for blueberry season.
5 Navy Viet Nam vets and our wives had our annual reunion at the home. What a great place to have this type gathering we arrived from 4 states. All of completely enjoyed the property and visiting numerous points of interest in the region. What a beautiful place in a awesome setting one none of us will forget !
We absolutely loved our stay here. If you want to avoid crowds and have a beautiful view in a quaint house then this is the place for you! The kitchen had neat old fashioned metal cabinets and was the best stocked kitchen I have ever seen. Staying in the house is like going back in time but, at the same time, the floor to ceiling windows give it a light, bright feeling. We drove over 20 hrs and it was worth it! We plan to come again in the future. Paula is a delightful host!
Driving from Wisconsin, we traveled a good distance to get to this VRBO. Although we were a long way from home, once we arrived, it felt just like home. We loved the charm of the house and the quaintness of the area. While at the VRBO, we were able to enjoy quiet times for relaxation and beach exploring at the shore and also at nearby Jasper Beach. The Milkhouse Cafe for awesome coffee/espresso choices and The Public House for a very nice restaurant with great food are right in the area, only minutes away. The home itself was clean, well stocked and very comfortable. We had plenty of room for cooking and gathering inside or out. Two refrigerators helped immensely with a group our size. One for food, one for beverages. We found sea glass and beautiful rocks on the shoreline that lines the property. We also felt it was close enough for some fun day trips such as Bar Harbor, Acadia National Park, Tidal Falls Preserve, The Oceanarium and Education Center (a favorite), and Eastport. On our way to buy seafood from Chipman’s Wharf in Milbridge, we found the Wellness Park. It is a community garden designed perfectly with vegetables for those in need to pick and it also has areas filled with pollinator flowers. We found it to be fascinating. We also bought homemade pies from a woman in Cherryfield who sells them out of her home stacked in a pie box on the honor system. They were so yummy. All in all, we rate this property a 10 out of 10. Thank you Paula for your genuine hospitality!

We had a great time.
Four families totaling 13 people stayed here. We had a great time despite bad weather. The host was flexible with us having packages of food and kayak rentals delivered shortly before our arrival, which was appreciated. She responded to most inquiries within 24 hours even though she was having a family medical situation. Maids were finishing up as we arrived and the home was clean.
The location is nice and remote but you can get to a lot of hikes, lobster boat tours, and bar harbor in about 1 hour as a day trip.
The pictures were a pretty accurate representation. We brought a large hammock and badminton net with us and the property grounds were perfectly sized to accommodate all of it and let us spread out. Beach was a 1 minute walk and gorgeous views.
There were a few minor things that have since been corrected in the listing (e.g. no fire pit) or were our own fault for not noticing (e.g. only one bathroom has a shower, the other is only a bathtub). But one thing that is worth mentioning:
One of the large upstairs bedrooms with 3 beds can only be accessed by passing through a bedroom on either side of it. This caused logistical problems with our room planning (especially for families with toddlers) and made our own room with an attached stairwell a thoroughfare for older children moving from floor to floor. We would have liked to know this before we booked.
But it all worked out and we made great memories for a reasonable price. Thanks to Paula for a great week.
My family which included 6 children (10 months - 10 yrs) four parents and two grandparents came to this beautiful home for our first family vacation since COVID. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay from enjoying morning coffees on the balcony listening to the waves to suppers enjoying the sunsets. The kids liked watching the fog roll in and out. The kids loved meeting the neighbors who have a farm. They had great fun adopting the goats and petting the turkeys. We loved the rocky and sandy beaches.
The house had more than enough room and lots of room outside for running around and playing. The kitchen had everything we needed and more.
We put some extra curtains up over the blinds in hopes that the kids would sleep in a little later, which did help.
Thank you Paula for a wonderful family holiday
We live on the coast of southern Maine and escape the crowds every year, and head downeast. This property is perfect, big enough to absorb 4 adults, 3 children of a multi generational family, quiet, peaceful, very clean, well furnished as a proper summer escape should be. The house is late 19th century quirky in all the best ways. There is not a single iffy or negative comment about this place that we can make. Bravo to Paula the host! We shall return next year for a couple of weeks.
My 8 year old described our vacation as “8 days in paradise!” Starboard Maine is heavenly, peaceful, beautiful coast. We felt spoiled to wake up to the ocean every single day. The private beach was perfect and there are many other places to explore. Paula was just lovely and so helpful. Make sure to visit the farm next door! Carmine and his family will make you wish you lived there! We loved lobsters and clams from the local fishermen and baked goods from local farm stands. We didn’t want to leave. More than enough room and absolutely everything you need to cook at home everyday if you wish.
We celebrated my parents 60th birthday all week and hope to Come back soon!
My family and I spent a very nice, relaxing, comfortable week at the property. The location is beautiful and remote and private. The house is old and spacious with a lots of character. We had seven adults and two infants here for a week long stay. While the house may not have finest, newest decor, it has an a lot of historical charm. Wifi and Internet connectivity was so-so, but about what you'd expect in a remote location.
