4-bedroom cabin in idyllic Lost River WV - dog and kid friendly!
Welcome to Willow’s Run - our family friendly (including dogs!) spacious getaway located 2 hours from Washington DC in the middle of the gorgeous Lost River Valley and nestled into the George Washington National Forest. Our peaceful, spacious 3 BR, 2.5 BA cabin (not including the Kids Bunkhouse) is located 15 minutes from Wardensville, 3 minutes from Trout Pond National Park, and 7 miles from Lost River State Park. The main cabin features wrap-around decks complete with gas grill and firepit, plus a screened porch with a sitting area and a second dining table.
A special feature is The Bunkhouse – designed by kids for kids (regardless of age!) It’s a detached space with 2 twin beds and 1 sofa to sleep, lounge and play. It includes its own TV/WiFi, library, game center, beanbags, and Maker’s Space. Kids have a separate covered porch, slack line and hammock. (Note: bathroom is in the main house.)
Each person and dog (sorry no cats due to allergies) will be able to find their own special place on the property to enjoy the sunshine, read a book, or nap. If you want to explore, go hiking, horseback riding, white water rafting, cycling, fishing, or bird watching at the nearby parks — you can even take the dogs for a swim in Trout Pond, just up the road. Local restaurants (amazing pizza joint to Michelin Chef dining), wine tasting, thrift shopping, craft fairs, and yoga studio all within a 10-minute drive. Don’t forget to wander the property’s three wooded acres.
Willow’s Run gives city dwellers, including families, friend groups and dogs, the chance to experience nature in a welcoming community, celebrated for its diversity, nestled in the rugged WV mountains. From adventure to relaxation to bonding time...Willow’s Run can truly provide it all.

The property was great and perfect for a family getaway to visit with my sister's family. My niece loved the bunkhouse, and it was the perfect place for us to do craft activities and play. The property is lovely, the animal-themed decor was excellent, and the beds were super comfy. We had a great time, and the host even left pumpkins for us to carve, which was a big hit. I highly recommend this property.
Karin was extremely welcoming, especially since we had three dogs and a child. Our family enjoyed our time, and the cabin was big, serene, and clean. It felt like a home away from home. We loved the Christmas decorations and the Christmas tree. The beds were very comfortable, and having multiple bathrooms was a big plus. The kitchen was spacious, with lots of cookware. We definitely enjoyed our stay and hope to return in the future. Thank you, Karin.
My husband and I, our grandchildren and our dog enjoyed our stay at this property. The front room was welcoming. Kitchen was well stocked and had a choice of a Keurig or drip coffee maker. The downstairs bed was very comfy, even though I had to share the bed with my 2 grandchildren and my puppers. (Both being under 6 were afraid of sleeping upstairs by themselves.). We were going to stay upstairs with the children but it was tough for me to go up/down the stairs. They are kind of on the narrow side and steeper than most. My grandkids loved the kids craft room. I loved the deck and the screen room. It was a lovely stay and we all enjoyed it. Please remember this home is in the woods which is part of the charm we loved.
Host was communicative and quick to respond. The cabin was a perfect getaway for the weekend with plenty of space and amenities for our crew. The kitchen was well stocked for our breakfast meals and a short drive to the lost river spots for dinner. Easy mile to Trout Pond state park with great trails to stretch the legs. Overall the cabin was perfect for our quiet weekend in the mountains and we'll definitely be back!
Thank you so much for hosting us at your house. We do an annual trip with friends and this space was a cute place to gather. We loved how amenable to a medium-large group the house was (the fridge was huge! We loved it). The couches were comfy and the TV was great, we watched lots of good movies and TV.We have a few items of feedback/information for your awareness:- The bunkhouse was not habitable - there was an unmistakable scent of mildew and mold such that no one could sleep there. I bring that up for your awareness - our group was sized such that the person who had planned to sleep there was able to sleep on the couch (which was very comfy) but had we needed those beds, we wouldn’t have been able to use them.- The cleanliness of the house wasn’t really up to par. There was a used and dirty robe hanging in the upstairs bathroom. There was also hair all over the downstairs shower wall and drain. This was noticed by the first person from our group to shower. - There was a mouse - we noticed it came from behind the side table closest to the kitchen area. - We were very disappointed that there was no communication that the hot tub had been removed. When booking the home we made sure to filter to places that offered this amenity, and were expecting this upon arrival. We understand things change, so a message ahead of time and a price adjustment would have been ideal.
