"We love love LOVED our stay here!!! Just thinking about our time here makes me want to be back in Costa Rica!! I thought it might not be our kind of place - and I also didn't realise the Corcovado day trip boats could pick you up from there - but I chose to spend a couple of nights there so that we'd be half-way along the Drake Bay Trail. But it actually turned out to be one of our favourite stays in Costa rica (and we traveled the country for a month!). Firstly, it was right on a beautiful...

Casita Genesis

10/10 Excellent

"It was a beautiful place to stay right on the beach with the sound of the waves crashing and the birds chirping. Very close to restaurants and all of the tours and the host was awesome and very accommodating! Highly recommend!"

Drake Bay Sunset Lodge

10/10 Excellent

"House was exactly as advertised and had a great view. There was a berry tree in front of the house and every day two red Macaws would perch there followed by two toucans. The breakfast was great and you can walk down the stairs right to the beach. The only drawback was the hike up to the house, but everything else was perfect."

Natural Drake Bay Hotel Boutique

10/10 Excellent

"Mariadelia welcomed us to the hotel with smoothies and refreshing towels. She was such an angel our whole stay. She anticipated our needs, answered our questions, and helped us book activities. I hope she gets paid highly because she certainly deserves it! We also loved talking with the bartender, Diego who was a sweetie. One of the chefs, Randall also came over and took a picture of me and my husband without us having to ask. Everyone on staff clearly works hard to upkeep this lovely getaway. The food was delicious, the pool was refreshing, and we LOVED having access to the private beach! We are already talking about coming back to celebrate an anniversary- see you then Natural Drake Bay Hotel!"

Aguila de Osa Rainforest & Marine Adventure Lodge

10/10 Excellent

"Aguila del Osa is a dream hotel with wonderful views from the bedroom and main lobby/restaurant. The hotel gardens are beautiful and we saw many birds including hummimg birds right outside our room. There is a nice walk around the hotel and you can also take a trail into the rainforest and the nearby Cocalito Beach, All the staff speak excellent english and are very friendly and provide excellent service. The meals are very delicious with generous portions. The hotel offers a good range of excursions and we really enjoyed the boat trip and snorkelling in Isla del Caño. Other guests went to Corcovado National Park for the day although we opted for the overnight stay booked through another Company. We would highly recommend visiting Drake Bay and staying at Aguila del Osa Hotel."

Ocean Forest Ecolodge Retreat

8/10 Good

"Lovely staff, great food, as others have said it's very rustic which depends on your point of view how you take that. I loved it however, both ATV transfers we asked for didn't materialise which, esp for the route back, was mildly annoying. Being in the room whilst it was raining cats and dogs during the night was incredible"

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Los Planes?

The best area to stay in Los Planes is around the central village of Uvita, which acts as the gateway to the stunning Marino Ballena National Park.

Uvita itself is a relaxed coastal village, known for its iconic "Whale's Tail" sandbar, which is a natural formation visible at low tide within the Marino Ballena National Park. The main road, Route 34, runs through the village, with various accommodations, local eateries, and essential services spread out along and just off it. It's a convenient base for exploring the region's natural beauty.

Couples often find Uvita ideal for a romantic getaway. Many accommodations here offer private villas or boutique hotels tucked into the rainforest, providing a sense of seclusion while still being close to the beach and dining options. You can easily arrange whale watching tours, explore the national park, or simply relax on the uncrowded beaches.

For families, staying slightly outside the immediate village centre, perhaps in the hills overlooking the coast, can offer more spacious lodging options, often with private pools and lush gardens.
