We were a family party of ten, arriving from Glasgow, Edinburgh, Australia and Canada to reconnect with each and our family origins in Knapdale. We had a wonderful time. The house was capacious, well fitted-out and welcoming, as were the helpful staff. The location beside the Crinan Canal was interesting and good for early morning walks. More generally we had relatively easy access trips to Loch Awe/Kilmartin, Tarbert, and Castle Sween and Tayvallich and the scenic beauty of the area is only matched by its long history. The area generally needs to up its game in the quality and variety of light meals provided, though places like the Tayvallich Inn were just great to visit. The local hotel at Cairnbaan was a disaster for eating out. The food was ok, expensive, the service dreadful and dogs of other drinkers were allowed to wander around and under your table and one pissed on the sofa next to where we were dining. Our overseas guests, who live in rural areas, were appalled by the neglect of public health issues in eating.
The house was wonderful and pretty good value for money. We would happily go back .
