We enjoyed our short stay at the Cheesewring Hotel on Bodmin Moor. Our room was comfortable and we were made to feel very welcome in the busy bar /restaurant in the evenings. Its in an exceptionally beautiful location on the highest part of the moor with interesting walks all around and it was a novel way to wake up in the misty mornings to see the sheep and horses from the moor wandering freely past our window. We would highly recommend this hotel.

Lovely rooms over a busy pub, great location.

Very good hotel B&B with rooms above a popular pub & restaurant. Reasonable size room, clean and tidy with shower bathroom etc. The plumbing in our room featured a macerator unit which was effective but starts and stops and thus is slightly noisy when running water using the toilet etc. The staff and owners are very friendly and cooked English breakfast is very good. We also had a meal in the restaurant and again this was good quality food with excellent service despite the restaurant hosting a large group at the same time. Overal excellent value for money in a slightly remote location by the moor but close (walking distance) to popular landmarks and tea rooms. The pup is based in the village of Minions so that's worth something to tell the kids about.

Friendly b&b

My daughter and I stayed here in our way down to visit friends last year. We turned up after 10pm having had no dinner; as there was noting open locally the proprietor said we could have anything off of his menu and he cooked it for us. Outstanding customer srevice. So decided to return on our way home this year. It did not disappoint. Once again very welcoming and he remembered us! Breakfast was fantastic; my daughter especially liked the sausages. It is in the middle of the countryside very peaceful. Take care driving along the road as there are sheep and ponies roaming freely in the roads. Golitian Falls is along the same road. Worth a visit of you enjoy a walk in the forest. Also close to other attractions: we especially enjoyed Adrenaline Quarry in Liskeard. I will return here again.

a real gem

This is a real gem hidden on the edge of the moors. The views surrounding the hotel are breathtaking with sheep and wild ponies roaming around the area. The hotel is friendly and efficient. Breakfast and dinner were both hearty and enjoyable. Overall we found the hotel great value for money

Great Place in a Beautiful Location

Had to ask in a local Pub for the exact directions to the Cheesewring but once found it was well worth it. The hotel is in a fairly remote location on a small road in the middle of the country in a Very small village. Nice and QUIET. :) The sheep roam free and cross the road and/or walk down it anytime they want and simply return themselves to the small field right beside the hotel at night. There is a nice small pub in the hotel and you can have your meals inside or outside on the veranda and enjoy the breeze. The hotel staff and local residents were wonderful and we spent the evening outside having a couple of pints and talking with them. The actual Cheesewring natural formation is within easy walking distance as well as the over 6,000 year old 'Hurlers' circular standing stone rings (like small Stonehenges), and historical mining sites and museum. Overall it's in a beautiful, quiet, location with nice rooms and amenities and supported by some of the most friendly staff we met on our month long European trip. I'd go back. Excellent!!

Characterful pub accommodation high on Bodmin Moor

Excellent accommodation on Bodmin Moor. Very close to the neo-lithic standing stones and stunning tin mine ruins, and right on the moorland, which is so beautiful whatever the weather. (One of the locations for the popular Poldark series I gather). The pub is very well used by locals and the restaurant popular with regulars travelling from the local area and further afield. Very good menu choice and well cooked food at reasonable prices. Decent wine too. Everybody very friendly and welcoming.

Comfortable and Cosy Cornish Hotel

From the moment we arrived at the hotel we were greeted with a friendly smile and a warm welcome and there was no fuss in checking in. The room was very clean and it had all of the home comforts that you would hope for - it was just right for our brief overnight stay. The hotel itself is located right on the edge of Bodmin Moor and is a great location if you are looking to venture out onto the moor and/or further afield into Cornwall. We were surprised to discover on arrival that it is actually the highest hotel (900+ feet above sea level) in Cornwall. At the end of our first day we enjoyed a lovely evening meal in the hotel restaurant. The food was of good quality and well presented and again the service was faultless and the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. We felt very relaxed and comfortable throughout the meal. In the morning we enjoyed a full English breakfast along with toast and cereal, again the service was fuss free and extremely friendly. Without hesitation, I would highly recommend this hotel and we will certainly be making a return visit in the not too distant future.

High Hotel

Only stayed one night. Because it's also a pub the noise from the bar can spoil an early sleep. The food portions are very large, I couldn't finish my dinner, or breakfast. Nice beer!

Bedroom and bathroom spotless, modern and beautifully decorated. Much better than what I expected from the outside view. No noise from the pub below which was busy.

Nothing too much trouble

We were running late due to traffic, we had a phone call to ask if all was ok with us, when we explained we were told no problem. when we arrived we were told sorry to late for evening meal(no surprize it was 10p.m), but were sandwiches no problem. Room lovely shower bliss and were even asked what time would we like breakfast, and what a breakfast lovely. My wife left her kindle in the hotel and when I phoned was told no problem it will be sent on. It was a lovely peaceful night, and nothing was too much trouble.

Lovely pub/hotel on Bodmin Moor

This hotel is a great base for an active holiday and there are some lovely views to be had just a short stroll away. The room offered everything we needed and meals were easily at hand downstairs in the bar - just remember to book ahead if you want a guaranteed table for dinner. Would definitely stay again.
