Famous Trainhouse Dome not far from White Sands NP
Unique geodesic dome home central to NMSU, I-10 and Old Mesilla. Approximately 40 minutes to White Sands NP. Gated, secluded and secure. BEFORE BOOKING, READ NOTE BELOW ABOUT LOUD TRAINS AND CELL TOWER! The home is a former caretaker's place and is located inside a fenced and gated four acre business yard. The business is at the other end of the property from the house (about 800' away). Please see our check in instructions which show pictures of everything and where to enter the property.
You will have use of the entire main floor which consists of two large bedrooms, full kitchen, large bath , dining and main room plus the upstairs loft area. The upstairs master bedroom and bath is being renovated for future use, and is not currently available. There is also a basement which will be kept locked at all times, and is reserved for Host's personal use.
This listing is disinfected using ozone. As the final step in our cleaning process, an O3 generator is used for the ultimate sensitization of the ENTIRE house. We do this for your safety and security.
CELL TOWER NEARBY! There is a cell tower adjacent to property. Anyone who thinks they might be affected by a cell tower should NOT book this property. No refunds will be given because of cell tower.
LOUD TRAINS! As the listing title says, this is the locally famous Train-House Dome. That means it's right next to the tracks! The house is next to the Santa Fe Railroad, which crosses South Valley Dr. nearby (please see the pictures for an aerial view which shows proximity). As such, when a train passes you WILL be able to hear its horn and feel the rumble. BNSF (Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway) says they average 5 trains per day, but most of those are during daylight hours. Be aware there COULD be several pass in the night! But that's relatively unusual. Earplugs are provided free of charge just in case to help you have a restful sleep. Please do NOT BOOK if you are in any way uncomfortable about a train or trains passing by in the night. And please remember it's NOT FAIR to rate us lower than 5 stars because of the train(s)!! There are video cameras at different locations covering the entire business yard for additional security.

We enjoyed this house very very much. We'd never been in a house design like this before. It had great character with everything rotating out from the kitchen. Well stocked and we were able to cook each night.
One suggestion: place no-slip strips in bathtub. Makes it safer for people for those of us that need a bit more stability while showering.
All in all great place to stay. Close to food and access to highways for travel to White Sands, Mesilla and other places.
Thanks for making a great and memorable vacation. 😎
We were traveling long days and this was the perfect place to stop overnight. It had everything we needed and was very comfortable. If we travel the same route again we will for sure plan on this Vrbo again! Added bonus was the secure gate and location, we felt safer here than at a hotel.
This is a unusual and fun stay in Las Cruces. The house is really kitted out in a useful but funky style. Great for pets or anyone who wants fun stay while on the road. Probably my favorite VRBO experience!
The listing is very accurate. The trains were cool. Great location in the middle of everything. Property needs some TLC.

Detoured purposefully to Las Cruces to stay in this historical, funky property. It was simply not clean. Popcorn debris in bedroom, musty odor, and seriously offputting toilet. Promptly removed myself to nearby hotel - I can recommend the Staybridge Suites! Too bad. This place has real potential but was just not ready for guests.

I was not thrilled that I was required to purchase an insurance police for $60, something I've never been required to do anywhere else.
Everything was fine until I just opened my e-mail to find that a claim has been filed against this insurance policy to replace the carpet for $433.
One of our dogs pooped on the carpet this morning, which my wife promptly picked up. She sprayed with Odoban and then wiped it up.
Now, they're claiming the carpet needs to be replaced?
Always wanted to stay in a dome house; check 😀
The dome was clean, comfortable, and delightful. Great mattress. Great kitchen. Best shower I’ve experienced in two hemispheres. Already ordered a shower head like the tandem in the shower. Hated to leave! Thanks for having us.

Great little getaway in our hometown. Enjoyed being able to escape to a lovely unique home with so much character. I had no issues with the train noise and I felt like I was in a second home of my own. Easy to communicate with and just lovely experience.
We loved the dome house. Great furnishings, a little retro vibe. Very comfortable. Location as mentioned is at the back of a business driveway behind a gate but we saw no one back there while we were there. Location is super convenient to the highway, shopping, etc. Trains do pass by at night but they pass quickly and they didn't bother us at all but we like trains.
Our visit was great. We were there for 2 weeks. The house was unique, very cool. Bill always responded immediately to any questions we had. He bought a grill which was really great. The location was central to everything we wanted to do. I know people talked about the trains and we had no problem with them. We would come back again.
The stay at the dome was wonderfully different … they have the best table for a family dinner and some game playing. Thank you for sharing your wonderful property with us.
This very unique building was an interesting stop. I was surprised that it was in an industrial gated compound behind an auto shop. Not a deal killer for staying again on a road trip, but if you’re looking to enjoy a neighborhood, this is not the place
Great stop over point just off the highway in a secure location. The train is loud but it would be loud anywhere around that area.

Wish I had known about the trains
The round house was interesting and affordable but I am light sleeper so was awakened all night several times by passing trains. The air conditioning couldn’t keep up with the sweltering heat and the upstairs TV was worthless as it was sweltering upstairs. We enjoyed the fish pond and the large dining area but I wouldn’t stay there again.
This was good for an overnights stay right off I-10. The location in the back of a storage lot/business was a little strange but once back there it was nice. It is very close to the railroad tracks so there were a few short loud disturbances when a train passed. Overall it was a good value and perfect for what we needed.
