This is a small but lovely resort and feels quite intimate. We stayed in a Waterfront villa for 4 nights, and were upgraded to an Island Villa for our last night. The villas are lovely, are air-conditioned, very comfortable king size beds, and gorgeous full width windows facing the water with balcony/decks. Large bathroom with huge shower, and an outdoor shower as well. The Island Villas also have a freestanding bathtub that provided a lovely soak. The lagoon provides great snorkeling with lots of fish and starfish, and apparently, there's a resident turtle and resident. Kayaks and snorkel gear available. Pool is small but great for relaxing. But the staff is what makes this place exceptional. Warm, friendly, accommodating. Amazing chef who met with me to discuss my dietary requirements, and being gluten free here is not an issue if you give them notice prior to arriving! Lovely spongy bread from the specialty bakery in Apia, but homemade scones, pancakes, and chocolate chip muffins were provided for me, each on different days. The chef even made a "cheat sheet" of gluten-containing products for his staff, and made sure I had gluten free options on the buffet for the FiaFia Night show. We were made to feel welcome, and like family, and we can't wait to go back. Thank you so much, Aga Reef Resort!

Beautiful resort on the reef
Under the shadow of the great Upolo mountains this little resort nestles neatly off the Aga Reef. A short walk from local fales, and the amazing Lolamanu Beach - it's the perfect spot to be far enough from the big smoke (Apia), whilst still close to Samoa's many natural wonders.

Great Location, very relaxing
Great place to stay to wind down. Close to other beaches and places to visit. Very helpful staff and General Manager. Beautiful part of Samoa. Daily specials on the menu were welcomed, the main menu could do with a bit of a rotation. Not really a place with a party atmosphere, so don't expect too much excitement. Could do with more loungers around the pool. We will be back.

Amazingly beautiful setting.
We stayed 8 nights at the Aga Reef Resort in Lalomanu. The bures on the lagoon are worth the additional cost. Staff are friendly but hover too much over dinner. Pros are the beauty of the setting, the smiley staff and the Manager, kiwi expat Derek. A la carte restaurant food quality is very good albeit a very limited selection. Cons are the small portion sizes and expensive menu items, sporadic hot water in the garden view rooms, poor WiFi reception, terrible tv reception. And if you want to snorkel, bring your own fins and masks etc as despite stating these amenities are available, they are not. Lalomanu is very remote, very windy and cloudy compared with the north side of the island. Beautiful but if you are staying longer than a few days you need to hire a car as it becomes a beautiful jail otherwise. If you want island cuisine don't stay at a resort, it's mostly European fare approximately 30 to 50 percent more expensive than NZ equivalent. Bring your own snacks and wine with you. Stock up on local beer and water in Apia before you head down the island. Special thanks to Iesse, Albert and Derek for their hospitality. While we were at Aga Reef Resort, our daughter left an urgent message with the reception which we were never given. That pretty much summed up the front office delivery; despite the beautiful smiles I'm not sure that anyone was really home.

Reception staff were not very helpful and couldn't really provide much advice on things to do locally. Restaurant staff were too in your face. Food is completely over priced and not great. The room was really nice and clean. The resort is let down by the food and the staff, who were lovely but obviously let down by their training.

Beautiful location, stunning ocean view!
Aga reef is located in a stunningly beautiful spot. Our chalet had a million dollar view, and we snorkelled from right there. The highlight was spotting a turtle and some seahorses! I can not fault the staff, they were all exceptionally friendly and went out of their way to be helpful ( rental car with flat battery!!! ) We will definitely be back. The room was great and always crisp and clean. Thanks for a lovely stay.

Ok but something missing
Didn't find this hotel relaxing. Rooms are modern and nicely fitted out, but it just didn't feel like a relaxing island getaway destination. Resort appears to be partially non-complete. Overall ok but not worth the prices tag from my perspective.

overpriced and disappointing
i am very confused as to why this resort has received such a high rating on Trip Advisor. Be careful. This would have to be the most overpriced and disappointing resort i have ever stayed at in any pacific island. the actual location is quite poor and i suspect an ill-conceived idea to build this property here has desperately forced them into recouping the investment as quickly as possible with inflated prices under the guise that "if it is somewhat on the pricey side... it must be of high quality and therefore good" notion. also, just because a resort is relatively new and doesn't have any wear and tear doesn't necessarily work in it's favour. don't get me wrong: the overhead aerial photos they use to promote the property are indeed impressive with the beautiful lush mountain backdrop. however, on terra firma things are very different... the rooms themselves are relatively nice with good, working a/c. however, because of the proximity to the reef, do not expect peaceful tranquility of any kind. the beachfront villas are directly in the constant wind currents and it was noisy and irritating the entire time i stayed there. the constant wind was almost unbearable. when i asked the staff if it was always like this, they said yes, it was. i was also told that all the waterfront villas were the same with regards to the wind when i asked the staff. makes you wonder why they built it like this. also, the strong tidal currents under the bridge add to the constant noise. i had to

Wonderful smaller resort for those wanting a quiet stay. Villas are superb and with patios over the water. The interior of the villas are delightfully decorated and a nice size with lovely large bathroom. Food superb and well priced. Staff friendly. Great for couples wanting something special. The lagoon is great for snorkelling with a lot of fish species including turtles.

Aga Reef recommended
Aga Reef Resort is a quiet resort on the South east coast. There is good snorkelling right at the resort - we saw a turtle right outside our room in the water. Rooms are clean. Basic but really comfortable. Staff are friendly without being overbearing. We stayed in a water side villa. Very quiet and private. You can't change money at the resort, they didn't have food optionswhen we arrived at 10.30pm, but these are small things in an otherwise very enjoyable stay The food at the restaurant at the hotel was excellent especially the fish

Staff great nice resort
We have just returned from 8dys at aga reef. Resort is very nice and people are fantastic. Only 2 things to complain about- limited menu was dear never changed and nowhere else to eat. Also you are literally on the reef. While that's great for snorkelling it's not so good for swimming. 5mins up the road is nice beach for swimming but you will be asked to pay to park your car or use a beach fale. While samoa was lovely we constantly had our hands in our wallets and it's not cheap. 4 days would have been enough. I would still recommend aga reef though. Definately hire a car

A peaceful romantic getaway
I stayed at Aga Reef Resort with my partner in late September for 1 week. After an initial mishap with the airport transfer, the staff went out of their way to provide assistance above and beyond their already amazing service to make up for the slip up. I was so pleased I stayed at this resort after visiting other places for lunch or dinner during the week. Always greeted with a laugh and smile each morning, at Aga Reef you get all of the luxuries you would come to expect with a high quality resort in the friendly and relaxed Samoan way. If you are looking for a peaceful getaway with an interest in snorkelling, swimming in the crystal clear beach and quality dining, this is the place for you. Tip: due to the remote location of the resort, I would recommend hiring a car if you are staying for longer than a few days so you can travel around the island (in a day trip you can drive around the entire country), especially for the rainy days when the beach is not appealing.

Great location,hotel and food.Highly recommended
Aga Reef Resort has the perfect location with white sandy beaches ,a sunning scenery. It's great location on the southern coast of Samoa if you are looking for a relaxing holiday. Apia is only 90 mins away so easy to have half or full day trip if desired. There are other tourist attractions close by . Hotel has a great layout very private. The team at the hotel were lovely they couldn't do enough for us from Reception , Restaurant , Security to Shuttle Drivers. The food from the Restaurant was definitely at least 4 star well presented with excellent service and just delicious food . We happily highly recommend this Hotel and would be happy to return

Beach front remote location
Aga Reef Resort is ideal for couples who wish to escape to a peaceful location, remote from facilities, transport etc. First class small resort right on beach with excellent rooms and service. As with most resorts Food and Drinks expensive, however, would recommend to those looking to relax and not on a limited budget. Distant from International Airport and Tourist sites. Best if Rent a car.

Luxury accommodation well worth the drive
My girlfriend and I went there as the last day of our samoan holiday. After half an hour there, we wished that we had just cut a couple of days from our holiday and stayed there from the start. Aga Reef is in an absolutely beautiful location with outstanding views in every direction. The accommodation and all facilities were almost brand new, scrupulously clean and very luxurious. The restaurant was excellent, with nice fresh ingredients and superbly cooked fresh fish. The lagoon provides excellent snorkeling in a protected environment, especially at high tide, with lots of different fish life to see. The infinity pool and deck are well sited to provide panoramic views and an outstanding place to hang out drinking cocktails in the sun or have dinner outside once it gets a little cooler. The staff were all very attentive and friendly.

Aga Reef Samoa
An enjoyable 7 night experience in a new Resort for us both. Physically situated one and a half hours from the International Airport the location is more remote than we realised and would next time think about hiring a car from Apia. A fantastic buffet breakfast is available to all guests and a notable feature is the very good restaurant with a superb menu and bar with great cocktails. Lovely beach and lagoon with picture perfect gardens around accommodation area. Enjoyed snorkelling and husband had two prolonged encounters with a turtle swimming and feeding in the lagoon. The pool on the deck was clean and very refreshing.Yes someday we would like to return to Aga Reef Resort..

Isolated excellence
Overall really excellent, highly recommend spending the extra and upgrading to an Ocean view villa well worth it. Staff were extremely friendly, and the resort is not too big as to get over crowded. The only improvements I would recommend would be: - Menu was a little bit basic would have preferred to see more Samoan dishes and greater use of local game and produce (Fish, Pork, Coconut, Banana) - Disappointing that they have now closed the SPA as had to travel 30 mins to another resort for a massage - In room mini bar (snacks and drinks) would have been good as kept having to go to the main bar to buy things - Would have been better had they operated their own tours (had to go to 2 other operators) and had their own fia fia night and buffet

Outstanding location, friendly staff..a great stay
The resort is new and is pretty small, so cannot get busy (34 max guests). Location is truly spectacular with the reef at your doorstep, and the staff were very helpful. Although, if you haven't been to Samoa before you may be a little surprised how 'laid back' things are. Samoa is still quite 3rd world in many respects outside resorts, but people are lovely and the scenery is beautiful. Restaurant at Aga had great food at a reasonable price.. the chef could REALLY cook fish and the daily dinner fish specials were outstanding. Pool and reef area are excellent. The perfect place to 'switch off and recharge'..... a wonderful place.

We enjoyed our stay the room was comfy ,cute why because the staff had a lack of Ozzie get it done mentality which at time can be frustrating is also quite refreshing , It's good not to be in a Hurry or have a answer to every question life needs to have more surprises. Thanks for the great stay .

Luxury on the Reef
I stayed in an Oceanview villa for 2 nights as a treat. The room was gorgeous, quiet and private. Sun Drenched Decks Looking At Azure Blue Ocean
We stayed in a Waterfront Villa with the Lagoon virtually at our feet, the tidal movements were very comforting and relaxing. Our private sun deck had ample room with a small table (for Drinks!) and two comfortable armchairs, where we could read, relax and take in the sights. Snorkelling in the Lagoon is a must with a wide variety of fish, if you a lucky some turtles and plenty of shellfish, the coral is also regrowing. The infinity pool is a great place to relax and chill after which its very easy to call for a casual snack and drinks on the well proportioned sun deck. The beach is next door, be careful of the coral as its a reef and you need to swim when the tide is in so as not to be injured. Snorkelling equipment and beach towels are provided by the resort free of charge. If you wish for peace and tranquility this Boutique Resort is the destination! The restaurant is light and airy with comfortable settings and the staff ( most still being trained) are delightful and eager the please, they are also full of stories about their piece of paradise and very willing to give advice on places to visit.

Disappointing
We booked quite a few months ago and notified Aga Reef Resort that I was wheat & gluten intolerant [Celiac]. Notified them that we would be departing on Virgin's direct flight, 2130 hrs from Sydney Australia arriving at 0500 hrs Samoan time. We arranged and paid for the resort transport to meet us at the airport and take us to the resort, and 90 minutes later we arrived at the entrance to the resort. When we entered to register our thoughts were to go to our room and sleep after travelling throughout the night, but found our room was not ready. We were told we could have breakfast while the room was prepared. We spoke with staff saying, you must be busy. NO was the answer, we now have 6 guests with both of you. We were shocked, but asked what was there for breakfast, other than wheat bread and was told this was breakfast, other than fruit we could purchase a hot breakfast of eggs [also allergy]. After fruit we went to the front desk and asked when our room would be ready and what arrangements had they made for me with gluten free food. They said it was noted but what is wrong with bread? Obviously unaware of what celiac disease is! The room was unavailable until 1200 hrs, [not impressed] but we had sufficient time to talk with the chef about dietary needs and management, but for 10 days nothing changed. Breakfast fruit and no change to the menu for that 10 days, AND to top it off one night when asked for a chicken salad it was presented with croutons.

Awesome resort, friendly staff, great food
Had a lovely week at Aga Reef Resort. Staff are very friendly and Kit the kiwi chef dishes up both great meals and tips on things to do. We stayed in the hotel part and the room was great, nice to have our own balcony to sit on and enjoy the views. Despite the fact the resort was full the pool we almost always got the pool to ourselves when we wanted a swim. Snorkelling outside the resort was ok, although was slightly better at some of the beaches just up the coast. I would recommend a hire car so you can explore the surrounding area - distances are too great to walk.
