"While the hotel is a little outdated, I really enjoyed my stay. Kind staff. The traditional Japanese styled room was big and comfortable, with the expected amenities that come with this kind of room. The bathroom was small and the toilet was slightly wonky, but not big issues. The bath was a good size, and the outdoor onsen area was nice after a long day. Laundry worked well."

"This property is idealy located if the transportation from the AirPort is Important - it is door to door. The staff were very helpful and room was very clean. Not speaking Japanese made it difficult for me at times. For example there are 3 options for breakfast which staff might have explained to me but i did not understand. It did not matter as normally i like to eat outside hotel but the full breakfast on the last night was very good. "

"This is a beautiful hotel with great views of the river and countryside. It is quiet and the rooms are very nice. I used the private baths with no waiting. The bar is a great whisky and wine bar. Complimentary ramen was very nice and filling. Other snacks are also given free. Staff were so friendly, and managed around my language barrier with ease and friendliness."

"Smile Hotel is a good standard with comfortable rooms and friendly staff. The laneways behind are interesting and fun for Izakaya but Kushiro central city is no longer busy and very run down. "

"It’s about a 15 mins walk to the hotel. The external and internal are fine. But the MOO fish men market is outdated and few stalls open. A good one over night stay for catching a early coach to Lake Akan tomorrow."
