"Heated and air-con tents with electricity and lighting. Lovely bar and separate restaurant. Received a huge welcome. Sahara desert is 4 mins walk where you find camels and buggies. There is a hot spring in the centre of the village free for all to swim in 2 mins walk. I hired a 4x4 trip from reception and journeyed into the Sahara for 3 hours. Peaceful, lovely pool and gardens. Quiet. Wake up to the fresh air and birds singing. "

Hotel Pansy

10/10 Excellent
"Hotel Pansy was just awesome! The host was incredibly helpful, communicating before our trip to answer our questions and to help us find activity providers while we were in the desert. He checked in with us to make sure we were happy every day and couldn't be more helpful and friendly. The restaurant had tasty Tunisian food in a set menu. The pool was gorgeous, surrounded by palms and the tent we stayed in was comfortable and nicely decorated, with air con when the electricity is switched on over night. It was cool through the day as it was well insulated. The site is minutes walk from the oasis hot spring, quad biking operators and camels to ride, plus on the edge of the desert to watch the sun rise/set over the dunes. Some reviews have complained about power etc - this is definitely an adventure retreat rather than a luxury hotel (which would cost a lot more in this remote setting!) So some elements are a bit basic which you should be aware of when booking. Our stay was simply magical and we loved it all! Thank you Hotel Pansy!"

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Ksar Ghilane?
The best area to stay in Ksar Ghilane is directly within the oasis itself, offering the most authentic and convenient experience.

The oasis is a small, remote settlement in the Tunisian Sahara, known for its natural hot spring where you can swim. Accommodation is typically in desert camps or lodges built in the traditional style, often with tents or bungalows. The main draw is the hot spring, and many camps are situated very close to it, or even have their own smaller, private pools fed by the spring.

Couples looking for a unique and romantic getaway will find staying in the oasis perfect. The tranquil desert setting, stargazing opportunities, and the chance to relax in the warm spring waters create a memorable experience. Many camps offer excursions like camel treks or quad biking directly from their doorstep, making it easy to enjoy the desert landscape together.

For travellers seeking adventure and a connection with nature, staying in one of the camps within the oasis is ideal. You'll be right on the doorstep of the Sahara, with opportunities for desert activities and experiencing the quiet beauty of the landscape.
When is the best time to go to Ksar Ghilane?
The best time to go to Ksar Ghilane is during the cooler months, specifically from October to April.

During this period, the daytime temperatures are much more comfortable, ranging from 15°C to 25°C. This makes exploring the desert, riding camels, or simply relaxing by the oasis much more enjoyable. The nights can still be cool, so packing layers is advisable.

Couples looking for a romantic desert escape will appreciate these months. The milder weather allows for long walks around the oasis, enjoying the sunset over the dunes, and stargazing without the extreme heat. Many of the desert camps and guesthouses offer comfortable amenities that are best enjoyed when the climate is agreeable.

Solo travellers seeking adventure will also find this period ideal for activities like quad biking or guided treks into the surrounding Sahara.
