"If I could give Hjelle Hotel more than five stars, I would.
Hjelle Hotel isn’t just a place to sleep, it’s an experience. The setting is absolutely breathtaking, with clear emerald water, towering mountains, waterfalls, and one of the most peaceful atmospheres we’ve ever experienced.
The hotel itself has so much character and history, yet still feels warm, comfortable, and welcoming. The family that owns and runs the hotel makes you feel like you’re a guest in their home rather than just another visitor. Their hospitality is genuine, and their passion for the hotel shines through in everything they do.
Our room had incredible views that we never got tired of, and waking up each morning surrounded by such spectacular scenery was unforgettable. The meals were excellent, made even more special by the stories shared about the hotel’s history and the local area.
What makes Hjelle Hotel truly special is the feeling it leaves you with. It’s peaceful, authentic, and surrounded by some of the most beautiful scenery Norway has to offer. It became the highlight of our trip, and it’s one of those rare places that you’ll find yourself thinking about long after you’ve returned home.
We can’t recommend Hjelle Hotel highly enough. When we return to Norway, this will be the first place we book."
"much better than expected. I had low expectations given some of the reviews but the location was perfect, room was spotless, spacious, big balcony, amazing river view and helpful staff. Had a very pleasant and comfortable 1 night stay"
"The cabin is great and quiet w/ a great view on the surrounding mountains (hence the “good” overall score).
However a few points of disappointment which need to be improved:
1- We met 2 staff members and both barely spoke English, although the check-in instructions (Dan Center) said that staff can speak Norwegian, English and German. The 1st person was friendly though and showed us the cabin.
2- More problematic: there are unclear/hidden fees not documented on Expedia web site nor on the specific check-in instructions we received from Dan Center: linens, towels. For the electricity, the 2nd person we met asked us to pay an amount not at all in line with what is documented on Expedia web site (0.15 Euro/kWh). Also we were very careful to turn off the lights and the heaters at night and during the day when we were not there. When I asked the 2nd person for an explanation for the electricity fee, he was not able to explain it to me in English and I didn’t have time to go through a Google Translate conversation. And he asked us to pay in cash, although the specific check-in instructions said we could pay any incidentals by credit card.
So at the very minimum Expedia needs to clearly document these various fees (linens, towels, electricity) for this property to avoid any bad surprise afterwards."
"This was our favorite stay of our 2 weeks in Norway. Stunning scenery!!! Plenty of space. Stylistic touches that amplified our Norwegian experience. Muri didn’t speak a lot of English, but was able to convey what we needed to know. There was a small cash fee for their bedding/towels (160NOK per person). Close to groceries and Loen hiking & climbing. "
