Adorable.
This hotel is by far the most charming place I stayed in Ireland. The grounds are beautiful, rooms are very large, and staff is great. I wish they had king beds available in more rooms and air conditioning (it was surprisingly hot in our room, even with the windows open). Offering light snacks after 3PM would also be nice.

During warm weather, the property needs to purchase fans capable of cooling a room where one may sleep comfortably. We had a very uncomfortable night. The only reason to stay at a hotel is to have a good night'ssleep.

Treated like royalty. The hotel is a 300 year old manor house with a beautiful garden, and within easy walking distance of Kilkenny Castle and the rest of the medievel village. And the breakfast was outstanding.

My husband and I absolutely LOVED this hotel. It was the best place we stayed in Ireland. First the staff were just fantastic. The front desk staff were so helpful answering all of our questions. The wait staff in the restaurant were delightful. The location is just perfect. You are right in Kilkenny. You can walk everywhere in town from that location. The room we had was so spacious and quiet. Everything was clean and functioned perfectly. There is parking right onsite which is a plus. Also the breakfast we had there was one of our favorite meals of our trip. So delicious!

The Butler House far exceeded our expectations. Travelling with 2 kids, often the rooms are cramped, but our room was so spacious, and with a view of the castle to top it off. The hotel is meticulous, old world charm but modern amenities. The breakfast was over the top delicious. This hotel will be my only option when we come back again.

Friendly and helpful staff. We were a family of 4 traveling, we got a great room, much larger than we expected, with cooked breakfast. Older hotel, well maintained -- a lot more fun than a modern traveling hotel. We used the hotel's adjoining car park which was free for guests and very convenient. Hotel is in in the heart of town near the high street.

Beautiful B&B in the middle of everything. The rooms we had were very large and had a double and single bed with huge bathrooms. Breakfast was great. Front desk staff was very friendly and helpful. Only downside was we were there during a heat wave and had to have the windows open at night - it was quite loud with street noise, even on a Monday night. Still worth it!

Thrilled with our choice
The Butler House has it all. The location was ideal. We parked within feet of the entry door. We were greeted by Freda with warmth and enthusiasm. She suggested we walk to the castle which we did and it was great. She also suggested a restaurant for dinner called Petronella which is one of the coolest places we have ever eaten. The building is from the 1600s. It was also near the Butler House. The room was great and spotless. Our room overlooked the gardens and had a view of the castle. Everything was just wonderful about the Butler House. Thanks!

The hotel gardens are stunning!!! We have never seen a hotel so we’ll situated with such gorgeous gardens. The room (we got a junior suite) was positively presidential. Consider a garden-view room, because it is totally worth it! We have stayed at more expensive hotels on this trip and hotels with more stars but none compare to Butler House! Loved, loved, loved this place. Somehow I accidentally booked two rooms when we only needed one and Harold gave us extra perks to make up for it. (We only realized my error while checking in.) The only cons were that some of the furniture was a little I outdated and we wished the room had a hair dryer.

The very best except for the noise.
Friendly staff and super service. Excellent breakfast with great choice. One negative thing is the level of noise throughout the night. If staying again would book room on top floor.

Nice facility in a renovated historic house. There was a fair amount of street noise until 10 p.m. Lots of restaurants in walking distance. The backyard was a beautiful garden where you can have tea or cocktails.

Butler House Hotel tries hard, but...
The prices reflect the rating but not the reality (we paid 275 Euro per night mid-week.) The hotel is a bit soulless. Full disclosure, we did not complain on the spot. We didn't want to ruin our stay by being "difficult" guests and having discussions about the deficiencies of the hotel. The staff were exceptionally lovely but pitifully inexperienced in the class of hotel and did not offer the level of service we expected for our 275 Euro per night. In our room the room had not been properly vacuumed. There were bits of wrapper on the floor. In addition, there was bird poop on one of the net curtains (inside). The room itself is tired. The mirror in the bathroom is a weak attempt at making the room a bit updated but doesn't fit the decor or style of the hotel. There was no explanation in the room of why the room was named as it was (each room supposedly had an explanation). We asked for an iron and ironing board which were delivered in a very timely manner but remained outside our room for 24 hours after. At the afternoon tea we booked, there was dried egg on the fork I got, and the scone was semi-raw. I brought the scone to the attention of the waitress, and she offered to replace it, but nothing else and no follow-up (lack of training?) We sat outside (beautiful grounds and garden) and we informed the staff that the seats were wet and perhaps they might want to dry them before seating anyone else. It wasn't taken into account. I wouldn't be picky if the price was appropriate

A lovely boutique hotel with an excellent location. The room was comfortable and spacious with a separate bathtub and shower (only stay to have this option on our trip). The staff and service was exceptional. The receptionist at check-in (Frieda, I believe) went above and beyond, even helping us order takeaway after a long day of traveling and bringing it up to our room! Breakfast was delicious with a beautiful view of the garden. One a stone’s throw from the castle and Medieval Mile shopping. Loved our short stay in Kilkenny and would certainly stay here again!
