"We absolutely loved Mizumari. Taiyo and his staff went above and beyond for us, and all of Mizumari was beautiful. It was our favorite stay in Japan!"

"The place is a hidden gem! The atmosphere is so calming and the food is amazing. It is perfect for both couples and solo travelers! The only thing I can complain about is the heat in the onsen, but that is a me-problem😆"

"I was a bit worried leading up to the trip about how to get there but they had some pretty good instructions on their website. They have a free shuttle that comes to the Shuzenji station about every hour or 2 (timetable is on their site) so all you need to worry about it getting to Shuzenji station which you can figure out using Google Maps. Once there, their instructions say to exit the station, go out and around the 7 eleven, and all the way down to the 8th bus stop. You’ll know you’re at the right spot because the sign will literally say the bus stop is for this hotel. It’s a coach bus so you’ll be able to fit any large or small luggage in the undercarriage.
Check in was quick and easy. We got to our room which was not too far by walk but they have a shuttle going around between the Marriott and guest house every 20-40 minutes.
This is basically out in the wilderness so expect some bugs and flys, etc. With that said, our room was very clean and really could not find any bugs inside the room for the 2 nights we stayed.
The private onsen was amazing and relaxing and we could actually see the top of Mt. Fuji from our room in November when it’s cooler so less clouds.
Limited in the things you can do there but we came to relax.
Food was just okay, kaiseki dinner is a traditional Japanese tasting menu essentially but wasn’t for us personally. Breakfast buffet is what you expect.
Overall, pricey but relaxing stay. Would recommend for those looking for private onsen."
"For me, this was a piece of pure indulgence. It was a calm place, somewhere to relax and recharge. The breakfasts were exquisite. No dinner on offer during my stay (2nights) but the recommended restaurant (sushi restaurant) was very special. The town was quiet and very calm and if you're prepared to walk a little (taxi or bus it if not), there are great views of Mt Fuji San to be had. Highly recommended. "
"My stay did not include breakfast. The place is great. Although I didn't know I did not have a personal restroom. So, the cleanliness depended on who was staying at the time. All and all great place and it was in the middle of all the stores and plaza. "
"We had a fantastic experience at this traditional Japanese ryokan in Shuzenji Onsen, said to be over 400 years old. Despite its age, the facilities and rooms were spotlessly clean and well maintained. We booked two suites, each with its own private onsen, which was perfect for relaxing. Each suite can fit up to four guests, making it great for families or groups.
The staff were incredibly kind and attentive. We accidentally left a cell phone behind, and they quickly arranged to ship it to our next hotel—a level of service we truly appreciated.
The property offers one public onsen and one private onsen. The shared spaces are a bit small, and the private onsen is first-come, first-served with no reservation system, which may be inconvenient for some. Since our suites had private baths, this wasn’t an issue for us.
A fun highlight: the ryokan has three small self-service cafés with complimentary drinks, popsicles, and ice cream, plus a late-night free ramen bar at 10 PM. Such a unique and enjoyable touch!
Meals were excellent. The kaiseki dinner was beautifully prepared, and breakfast offered Western or Japanese options. Their Western-style breakfast tasted better than many we’ve had back home in the US.
There is also a charming kimono rental shop next door. We recommend renting here rather than in Kyoto or Tokyo—it's less crowded and offers stunning photo spots with bamboo forests, a riverside bridge, and nearby temples.
We highly recommend this ryokan."
