Note that Keutschach am See has a rich history, with its earliest documentation in 1150. The city’s namesake noble family lived here for centuries, erecting their own castles and mansions.
The municipality lies in the glacial valley of Mount Pyramidenkogel and the Sattnitz mountain range. It is beside the Woerthersee lake and the Keutschacher See in the state of Carinthia. Fly to Klagenfurt’s small airport, 12 miles (20 kilometres) northeast, or the Salzburg Airport, 130 miles (210 kilometres) northwest. Picturesque Bled, Slovenia, is less than a 1-hour drive south.
