Very kind staff, eager to please. You’ll want to be sure you’ve done all you want to do for the day before arriving- roads in and out are a bit difficult but very drivable. Arrive before 2 to enjoy the paths on property, or come in at sunset to rest and dine on site. Would not recommend navigating here after dark.

Great location, great price, great amenities.
Very happy with my stay. Room was clean and bed was comfy. No AC but 2 oscillating fans in room to keep cool. Restaurant great food. Had breakfast at 7:30AM and then walked to Tenorio National Park and hiked until 10:30AM. On my walk back to hotel, stopped by the private trail that leads to a spot in Rio Celeste that you can swim in. I was a little late getting back for check out, but the lady owner told me not to worry about it. Super friendly staff and just a great stay overall.

Although accommodations are very basic, this was our favorite stay in Costa Rica b/c the grounds are soooo beautiful. The private hiking path down to the river, with the giant swing, was awesome, especially because Tenorio Natl Park is quite busy—nice to have a solitary hike. Don’t expect to sleep in in silence, as the open-air kitchen gets busy early. Staff speaks very little English (not a problem for us) but are very friendly and helpful.

This place has a cool parrot
The staff here was friendly and responsive. The room was a good size, it had a fridge, nice bed, and the fan was well placed. They have a really funny parrot here. It is very cute and can make all sorts of sounds. Best of all they have access to the river. It’s a bit of a walk, which was great for us because we ended the day at the National park at around 2 and wanted something else to do. It’s a really great hike with a Fun swing and swimming. We also saw lots of animals walking around the hotel property at night.

What a very nice place this is!
This small lodge is incredibly clean. It'0s less than a mile from the entrance to the park. We were welcomed by the owner, she was so friendly and helpful, even though it was a little late. The included breakfast was delicious. They held our luggage until we came back from the Park, which by the way is a wonderful place.

This place is run by an absolutely wonderful family, they were so welcoming and lovely to speak with. It's clear that they put a lot of care and effort into creating a lovely experience for guests. The property was gorgeous and lush with many beautiful gardens, we watched colorful birds from outside our room each morning. The breakfast was delicious, I can't recommend this place enough for an authentic stay in the mountains away from the overly-touristy experiences elsewhere.

This is a basic hotel with few amenities. The people running the hotel do not speak English (and our Spanish is not very good) but are super friendly and we got along no problem. Breakfast was terrific and we ate lunch there as well which was also very good. There are a lot of birds around the property, they even have a pet parrot and toucans who hang around the property. We went for a night walk on the property and saw lots of frogs...even fed a wild sloth! It is very close to Rio Celeste (15 minute walk) and you certainly would not be disappointed staying here.

A little slice of paradise
We came here following a stay at a luxury resort on the coast, and we instantly felt more relaxed here. We could have hung out in the hammocks staring off into the lush greenery for days. It's very rustic - like a bucolic farm stay. The accommodations are simple, but the grounds are just gorgeous (so many flowers!), and the family who runs the place couldn't be kinder. Breakfast is ample and delicious, and in fact we ended up eating all our meals here. Don't miss the swimming spot down the street - it's magical.

Homestay in the middle of the jungle.
If you are looking for the real Costa Rica experience, this is as close as it gets. The accomodation is basic, but the surroundings are wonderful. The park Tenorio is less than 1km away and the surrounding jungle is awsome. The hosts were super helpful and knowledgable about any activities and helped us book them. They dogs were the friendliest and the the local food was great. And best of all, they showed us their hidden ( outside the park ) access to the Rio Celeste where we swam in turquoise blue pools for a good hour in the middle of the jungle. That access includes a huge Tarzan swing over the trees which is pretty impressive. Highly recommended overall.

Our favourite hotel in Costa Rica
We absolutely loved this place. Gorgeous garden, superb location and hospitality second to none. It’s a family run business and the effort that goes into looking after the guests shines through. From Elias on the front desk who helped us plan our tours, to Geraldine in the kitchen who cooked up the tastiest food we had in Costa Rica (stay for dinner you won’t be disappointed) nothing was too much trouble. The photos on the website don’t really do the hotel justice. Check into this little piece of paradise and see for yourself why we’ve written such a glowing review.

Great stay!
I stayed here for two nights while visiting Rio Celeste waterfall and exploring the area. It's a family-owned hotel and they live on the property. They are incredibly nice hosts and they made sure I was comfortable and taken care of. My room was cozy, clean and comfortable. The restaurant's food is delicious, and they always have cold Imperials and fresh, delicious coffee ready. There's also a massage spa on the property. I opted to have a massage after my long day of hiking, which was incredibly relaxing. The location is also great, just a short distance from the entrance to the waterfall, and even shorter to a swimming hole that is operated by the same family. If I'm in the area again, I will definitely stay here.

Piece of Heaven in Rio Celeste
This place was truly a piece of heaven! Rio Celeste is already a very special place, off the beaten track and blessed with a milky blue river and clouds that touch the ground. The posada was such a peaceful and beautiful place from which to explore the area. The staff was incredible welcoming and treated us and especially our children like family. The hotel is a farm to table family hotel that is one of the original in the area. The hotel rooms are comfortable and cool with bright colors and mosquito nets. There are beautiful gardens on the hotel grounds with fruit trees, herb and vegetable gardens, flowers and a stream. The included breakfast was huge and delicious and the other meals we had were also large and very fresh made with food from the family garden. There were two pet parrots that were bilingual and fun to watch. Our children loved exploring the grounds and we loved listening to the sounds of nature and watch the clouds roll over us. It is very close to Rio Celeste and the family owns a private trail through the jungle to a place where you can swim in the river. We had a wonderful time in this magical place. It was one of our favorite places in Costa Rica.

Perfect stay near Rio Celeste
We loved our stay at Posada Rio Celeste La Amistad. Located only about a 5 minute drive from the main entrance to Parque Nacional Volcan Tenorio, this was the perfect place to return to after our hike to Rio Celeste. It was one of the closest hotels (if not the closest) to the Rio Celeste, so it was very convenient to our visit to the park. The room was small but very clean and very thoughtfully designed, and dinner and breakfast were absolutely delicious. Breakfast was included in the rate, and dinner was paid but priced very reasonably. The staff at Posada were all very friendly and made us feel at home during our stay. Staying here was one of our favorite experiences during our entire trip to Costa Rica. Another surprising perk of staying here was that we actually had 3-4 bars and LTE cell phone service for much of the time we were here, even though it's in the middle of nowhere! I would highly recommend renting a 4x4 vehicle if you're going to the Rio Celeste/Volcan Tenorio region, as many of the roads in this region are particularly rough (the road from Volcan Tenorio to the hotel was so-so, but the road between Volcan Tenorio and the town of Bijagua was particularly rough). We would love to return here someday!

Rio Celeste
We loved it! Our accommodations were rustic, the setting is beautiful and the family could not have been more warm, friendly and helpful. We loved lounging in the hammocks looking at the gorgeous garden and the parrots are an absolute riot. Guests all gather in the dining area and I think we all felt like part of the family. The food was plentiful and delicious and we saw more birds there than in any other place we went. We were able to walk to the National Park which was a bonus. And the horseback riding was so much fun!

Amazing experience!
This was a wonderful experience, the meals were "typical" (local fare) And very well prepared. The service here was amazing, everyone was very courteous. The rooms were clean and had small but enough space. There are many mosquitoes in the region, which cannot be helped, but they did have mosquito nets over the beds so it protected us and was kinda romantic. There were a few gaps in the screens from the outside into our room, so we did have many mosquotes in the bathroom and room, but otherwise a wonderful experience. There are several beautiful hikes from this area, one hike is $2usd to a beautiful lagoon area, which was great for swimming.

Posado stay
We stayed in this area to view rio celeste. This is a rural family owned hotel. The grounds were very cute and comfortable with breakfast included and a restaurant for lunch and dinner. The food was good and employees friendly. This is within walking distance to Rio celeste and for a small fee you can use their private path to walk down to the river and swim. it's a walk and can be steep. Make sure to give your self plenty of time. They also offer spa services. However there is no close by night life and no pool. There are some sodas (cafes)and restaurants but when we visited there was not a lot of action in the area once the park closed. The water heat and pressure was a hit or miss and no fans/ac. The room we stayed in was connected to others and the walls were thin so you could hear others and all the animals. If you want friendly service, to get away from it all, rural eco friendly place in the rainforest I would recommend this hotel. However if not I would recommend only visiting this area for a day trip.

Great Location For Visiting Rio Celeste
The room was in a secluded area off a rocky road near Rio Celeste waterfall and Tenorio Volcano. It is a small family-owned facility without air conditioning, TV, or wifi in the room. The owner made us an amazing breakfast and dinner of typical Costa Rican food including fresh fish consada and eggs and Gallo pinto. We called the hotel ahead and asked for a horseback tour and the horses were waiting for us when we got there. We had an amazing tour of the Rio Celeste and even took a refreshing swim in the beautiful blue river. This is not a Luxury facility but an authentic family retreat and was an amazing experience.

I recently stayed at Posada Rio Celeste for 2 nights with my husband and 3 friends. This is a very special place. After reading other reviews, we knew going in that the rooms would be "rustic," so that didn't bother us. Yes, the walls are extremely thin and there are a lot of bugs (but there's mosquito netting around the beds, so that's good). Just bring earplugs, bug spray, and go in with the mindset that you'll basically be at a nice camping facility (with your own bathroom and hot water for each room) and you'll be set. What makes this place so special is the family and staff that run the place. Upon arrival, you can immediately tell that this is a family-run place, and that the whole enterprise is a labor of love. The home cooking is simple and delicious, there's a wonderful garden outside with talking parrots, and a few friendly dogs that wander in and out of the outdoor dining area. You really feel like you're part of daily life here, and the setting is very peaceful. You can hang out in the shaded outdoor dining area at any time--we spent hours drinking beers and playing board games at the end of the day. Also, it's only a 1 km walk to the park entrance, so the location is super convenient for the main attraction in the area. Overall, our stay at Posada Rio Celeste with friends was one of our favorite experiences in Costa Rica.

Pondosa is true Costa Rica.
This place is not for the traveller looking at staying at a Hilton, Bahia, or Riu. This place is true Costa Rican. Basically like staying with a Costa Rican family and treated as such. No air conditioning or fans in the rooms and placed way out in the middle of nowhere. Limited English by the staff but extremely friendly and communication never seemed to be a problem if you were willing to try. Food was plentiful and tastey even when we weren't sure what we were going to be getting. Only a couple minutes from the national park where the Rio Celeste falls are absolutely beautiful. If you want to get away from the tourist scene and really be away from things, this is a great place to start.

Lessons needed in hosting tourism
The family that runs this hotel is very personable. They just do not seem to have a concept of what would be best to accommodate tourism. The gardens are lovely. The rooms are very small and dark. there are no screens on the windows but there are mosquito nets. No fans in the rooms which makes the rooms very stuffy. The bench outside the room was not 12 inches from a hedge. A tall hedge. There were no comfortable or uncomfortable benches in the yard where you could relax after a day of hiking. It would be good to have two or three days in this area because of the beautiful sites and hikes. However at this hotel there is no option for recovering comfortably in between those things. The road that accesses all of the hotels is bad for any vehicle but it is passable. By the time you reach your hotel you need a nice rest! That was not available in this place.
