Holiday in the Heart of the Wendland
Our cosy "Waldeule" log cabin is located on the outskirts of the small village of Karwitz, right next to the Göhrde—a stunning, vast forest area and a natural paradise for hikers, cyclists, and horseback riders, featuring endless sandy paths, Stone Age dunes, and ancient oak and beech forests—and even a mini heathland right in the middle of the forest.

Our holiday home is small but well-equipped and incredibly cosy. And you’ll have it all to yourself—including 2,500 square metres of wooded property. The property is not fenced in to keep dogs out.

Relax in the sauna. Enjoy breakfast on the covered porch. Unwind on the garden lounge sofa or use our bikes for a ride to the Elbe. Enjoy the cosy warmth in front of the wood-burning stove during the colder months.

The surrounding area is an absolute dog paradise: step right out the front door and into the magnificent forests of the Göhrde; where you can take walks of any length starting right from the house. For water-loving dogs, the Elbe, Arendsee, or Gartower See are not far away.

There are numerous excursion destinations and sights in the area, and your four-legged friend can join you at many of them:
- the world-famous Rundling villages with their impressive half-timbered houses
- the unique historic island of Hitzacker, a vineyard in the middle of town, a café on a boat, good restaurants, and a passenger ferry across the Elbe
- Leisurely strolls through Dannenberg, Lüchow, and the gem that is Lüneburg
- The extraordinary Dömitz lowland fortress
- A trip to the Vielank Brewery on the other side of the Elbe, with a detour to the ancient Styxer shifting dune
- A trip to Neu-Darchau to take the Tanja Elbe ferry and visit the favourite spot “Elbdorado” right on the Elbe, known for its legendary homemade burgers
- A trip across the Elbe on a sofa raft
- a visit to the small but charming Hitzacker Archaeological Museum
- a hike through the mysterious Nemitz Heath with a stop at the beautifully situated Heidehaus
- a visit to the salt mine in Gorleben via a Greenpeace boat deep in the forest—a memorial to 40 years of successful resistance against a nuclear waste repository
- a hike through the forest to the “Großer Mechtin” observation tower with a magnificent view of the Wendland
- a visit to the dairy sheep farm in Diahren
- a “quick tour” of the Gartow Thermal Baths

For our four-legged guests, we provide comfortable dog beds with cosy blankets, toys, dog towels, tick tweezers, poop bags, and various bowls.

We place great importance on providing amenities that leave nothing to be desired—included are:

The Waldeule holiday home is idyllically situated in a small forest community on the outskirts of the village of Karwitz-Lenzen and on the edge of the Göhrde, the largest forest area in northern Germany.

The path in front of the house leads directly into the forest, and the house is also surrounded by trees—deer, squirrels, and woodpeckers come to visit, but of course so do spiders, mosquitoes, and other small forest creatures from time to time.

The Wendland is world-famous for its unique “Rundling” villages, its “Kulturelle Landpartie” (cultural countryside tour), and its more than 40-year-long resistance to the nuclear waste repository in Gorleben. This resistance has had a profound impact on the region, and you’ll encounter its legacy in many places.
In addition to the Göhrde, the Elbe River is a highlight of the region, just a few minutes’ drive away. Charming little towns like Dannenberg or Hitzacker invite you to take a truly leisurely stroll. Hitzacker’s old town island and its own small vineyard are real hidden gems. There are a few good restaurants in the area if you don’t feel like cooking for yourself. A trip across the Elbe to the former East is also worth it, for example, on a return tour to the Dömitz Fortress, Stixer Dune, and the Vielank Brewery. On the way back, you can stop for a bite to eat at the Elbterassen Wussegel.

For all nature lovers—and especially for dogs—the sparsely populated Wendland region, and in particular the Göhrde with its paw-friendly sandy trails, is a paradise. Dogs love staying right next to their owners at the cosy Waldeule, and the dog adventure begins right outside the door.
