Frequently asked questions

When is the best time to go to Karigasniemi?
The best time to go to Karigasniemi depends on whether you prefer the summer's midnight sun or the winter's snowy landscapes and Northern Lights. For those eager to experience the 'midnight sun' and engage in outdoor activities, the summer months from June to August are ideal. During this period, the sun doesn't set, providing endless daylight for hiking, fishing in the Tana River, or exploring the surrounding fells. The temperatures are mild, typically ranging from 10°C to 20°C, making it pleasant for spending time outdoors. This season is particularly good for travellers who enjoy nature and photography, as the extended daylight offers unique lighting conditions.Conversely, if your primary goal is to witness the spectacular Northern Lights and enjoy winter sports, then the period from late September to March is best. Karigasniemi offers dark, clear skies, which are great for aurora viewing. During these months, the landscape is covered in snow, creating opportunities for activities like snowmobiling, husky sledding, and cross-country skiing. The temperatures can be very cold, often dropping below -10°C, so warm clothing is essential.
