Winter wonderland
Kandersteg, located in the Swiss Alps, is a true winter wonderland. The small village is surrounded by stunning mountain scenery, making it the perfect destination for a winter getaway. Hotel Alpina sits about a 10min walk from the train station. The hotel is clean and the staff are helpful. More options for breakfast would have been nice but overall it was a great stay. We arrived 2 days before ski season so had to venture to grindelwald where everything was also closed so best to check the weTger maps on the day and call. During the winter months, Kandersteg transforms into a winter sports paradise. The area is home to a number of ski resorts, including the family-friendly Oeschinen and the more challenging Sunnbüel. The skiing in Kandersteg is fantastic, with well-groomed slopes and a variety of runs for all ability levels. One of the best things about Kandersteg is its charming village center. The small town is filled with cozy restaurants and cafes, many of which serve traditional Swiss dishes. The local food and drink are a highlight of any visit to Kandersteg, and the friendly locals are always happy to recommend their favorite spots.

Excellent views, cozy room and superb hosts
The best hotel during our 8 nights stay in Switzerland. Lovely views from the room. Our son enjoyed sleeping in the attic beds. The breakfast was OK and the hosts are lovely people. The village of Kandersteg is a place to behold.

The staff was incredibly kind and helpful, breakfast was delicious, and our room was incredibly charming with a phenomenal view of the mountains. One of the comfiest beds and duvets I have ever used!

Perfect!
We had an amazing experience for a weekend gateway and were welcomed so nicely! Would definitely go back and clearly recommend it to anyone who appreciates a quality hospitality! We took away our dinner and the hotel manager graciously allowed us to dine in the common area and provided us plates and cutleries.

We only stayed for 1 night due to us visiting Oeschinensee but this hotel exceeded my expectations! It had an outlet to plug in phones next to our bed, in the bathroom and other places. It had two sinks to multitask and it was comfortable with good sheets. I was surprised when we were greeted and given a tour at 10 pm at night. I had called the hotel about the late checkin and they were so accommodating. I enjoyed the buffet and the service. I will definitely come back!

Nice and helpful staff. 10 min walk from the station. Can walk the cable car station going up to There is a bus station for buses to Blausee very close to the hotel. Need not to go back to the train station for bus.

The hotel is located in a mountain area. Is has a big enough parking lot. The room is nice, clean with a balcony which offers beautiful views over the mountains. The staff is very friendly and the breakfast is good with many options.

The hotel was wonderful. Clean and comfortable. Check in was strange. The key was left in reception for us, so didn't see anyone. Same as when we left, the only person we saw for our stay was a young lady at breakfast. Little strange, it wasn't like we arrived late, it was 5.30pm and left at 9.30am. Not good if you have questions. The area is beautiful and a trip up the cable car is a must. We would definitely go back. But would like a welcoming face on reception next time.

Great little hotel
Kind staff, nice room and bathroom, breakfast included! We stayed at hotel spycher as well and prefered hotel alpine over it. Great location, right in the heart of Kandersteg. You’ll want to be out hiking or skiing and this is the perfect place to come back to after.

A very nice place to stay.
A very nice place to stay. A few minutes from the centre of town with views of the mountains all around. The room was fine though the bathroom very small. Breakfast was particularly good and the hosts friendly and helpful.

They graciously let us stay in the hotel though it was off-season, opening it just for us. The location and convenience is excellent. The decor is outdated but it was a clean hotel and welcoming.

Stunning location with excellent staff
The staff were so helpful during our stay. Nothing was a problem and we were given great directions to the sights and cable car to go hiking to Oeschinensee. The family room was so much fun for our kids as they slept in the loft. Highly recommended for simple accomodation in one of the most beautiful parts of Switzerland. We will return from Australia and stay longer next time.

Seemed to be closer to a hostel than a hotel
clean and comfortable but there was a group who hung all there sporting equipment in the hallway. So it seemed very "hostel"ish.

Lovely typical Swiss hotel
We stayed for two nights at Hotel Alpina and right from the start we were so impressed. We received a lovely warm welcome and lots of useful information about the local area. The room was well furnished, very comfortable and with stunning mountain views. The staff were so helpful and welcoming all the way through our stay. Breakfast was buffet style and more than enough to set you up for the day. The hotel is only a 10 minute walk from the station and a 10 minute walk from the centre of Kandersteg. The cable car to Oeschinensee and the mountain is a 15-20 minutes walk. The hotel is set in a stunning location with superb mountain views all around. We will definitely visit this area again and will stay at the Alpina.

Cute and clean
The staff was quite friendly and accommodated a really late check-in for us. We called early in the day to let them know. The loft was perfect for our older children, but the stairs would be a little scary for young children. Our room was clean and cute with a beautiful view. The breakfast was a typical German spread and was tasty.

Horrible experience!
Showed up to a dark, empty hotel. No lights, no staff, doors locked. Had to find another hotel. Horrible experience! I can't believe Hotels.com did not call me! I received no calls from the hotel either!
Dear Sir! We hope that you accept our apologize for the inconvenience. Our new Staff-Management have took over the Hotel last May and during the time you supposed to habe a room at the hotel were not ready yet. The official opening was n 27th of May. We would also appreciated if you would mentioned in your rating that we responsed as you called us then and we had orinised a room for you in our Partner hotel then you refused because you prefered to find a hotel by your self as well as we charged. I would stay here again and again. The room and best were quite comfortable. The bathroom a bit on the tiny side. What really puts this place over the top is the excellent customer service. Peter and his son, Nico were awesome in every aspect. Great suggestions on everything Kanderstag and always willing to help out somehow. If we ever get back to Switzerland, we will stay with them for more than one day.

GReat Hotel in Picturesque Swiss Area
Hotel is very very clean and staff is incredible. Many different languages available and lot of friendly recommendations on dining, activities and history of the area. There is an English guide in the lobby from a local tour company that is great reading. Our room was on the 4th floor - two twin beds with an attached bath. Bathroom was tiny with a big step up from the main room - you want to be fully awake if you go to the bathroom at night - this step and the low door lintel are concrete and very unforgiving to stubbed toes. Breakfast and parking are included. Breakfast was simple Swiss foods - yogurt, cereal, soft boiled eggs, cheeses, cold cuts, fresh vegatables and lot of bread choices. The juices and coffee were superb! The whole town is lovely with lots of outdoor hiking, sightseeing and activities available. We focuses on the alpine sports and spent a day hiking trails to the south toward Gemmi pass, one day climbing the Via Ferratta (not for the unexperienced!) and a half day hiking up to the Oichenesee area and riding the "tin tobaggan" (lots of fun when it's uncrowded and you can go FAST!). The hotel had excellent WiFi in both the common areas and the rooms. The heated pool and sauna (nude in Switzerlan) were welvome after our hikes. Our only negative experience was the cost of food - having had two schnitzels and three beers many times as our "go to" meal in Germany we noted that it was basically twice as expensive in Switzerland - 30E versus 60 Swiss Franc

Basic hotel, walking distance to ski jumps!
Very friendly staff. Very good breakfast was included and staff set us up with a basic breakfast on day of very early departure which was appreciated. Room / building is old and basic, thin walls so can hear TVs and conversations easily. Price not really justified, but this is Switzerland after all.
