We discovered this nice cottage on a lake when we had work in the area. It is so much more than a hotel room. This is our second time here and will continue to book it in the future. Hopefully it will be available when we need it. Although it is winter we hope to enjoy all this place has to offer in warmer weather.
We stayed here near a relative for a family Christmas get together. The need was comfortable, stove, microwave, frig all working. We were travel weary and couldn't get in. Tom, the property manager came right over and let us in (we were at the property next door, duh)
Very cozy location just outside of town. Amenities were standard and pricing was affordable.
Drive is about 20 minutes to downtown Kalamazoo and nearby Portage.
A few suggestions: some darker window covers may be helpful for sleeping as the street light is right out-side. Additionally, verification that there is sufficient stock of toilet paper and kcups (thanks Tom for helping) will make other visitors stay more peaceful.
Overall would recommend. Thanks!
We enjoyed our short stay in this cute little cottage. Despite being on a corner, the property is very private. The little sandy beach space is just enough to sit and soak up the sun. There are a couple kayaks available for use as well as a stand up paddle board. The property is just a quick drive from plenty of places to eat and drink in Kalamazoo. Our last morning there we sat outside to have our coffee and watch a family of swans on the beach. Such a relaxing weekend.
We had an issue at check-in that Tom was quick to resolve for us. Great communication from the local property manager.
We loved this property. This was the perfect couple's weekend getaway. We kayaked on the lake and enjoyed the beach by the doc. The bed was super soft and comfy. It was clean and well kept. I can't wait to stay here again.
This property is well kept, went out in a kayak both days and it was beautiful, it's small but everything. Works well with each other. Enjoyed my time and would definitely come back.
Very quaint, and cozy cottage. Had everything we needed. Hubby took a kayak out on the lake fishing. Woke up to beautiful sunrises each morning. Property manager, was very accommodating and always responsive.
Great little place for my husband and I to stay a few nights. My only complaint was that the bathroom barn door would not stay shut on its own.

There was a lot of confusion with the communication about this property. It did not go smoothly like my other VRBO rentals have. Tom was very helpful when I contacted him. Red Awning was not very helpful. Tom contacted Red Awning and they emailed me the night before we checked in with the information we needed to check in/out of the property. The kitchen facilities were lacking in my opinion. There was one frying pan that someone burnt up pretty badly and a very small pan. I brought food to make spaghetti but couldn’t because there wasn’t a pot big enough. There were no tongs or a whisk. There was an oven but no pans for the oven. We stayed for 7 nights, so we planned to make meals there.
We had a truly wonderful time. The setting was peaceful and beautiful, with many opportunities to experience nature. The Pigeon House was exactly what we wanted, -- perfect for the two of us. Family stayed in the bigger house so we were able to use the larger kitchen to store and prepare food. The kitchen in the Pigeon House is equipped enough to prepare very simple meals - tiny fridge (like one in a hotel or dorm), stove and oven (also small). Grill on the deck was nice to have. The back door facing the lake does not have a curtain to cover the glass. We simply bought some wrapping paper and tape and covered it at night, along with the windows on the front door. We had a lot of fun using the canoe and wandering around the neighborhood in search of the local peacocks. It was a great piece of land on which to spend time with fam, play corn hole, feed the fish, chase dogs. I brought earplugs, which helped as it could be somewhat loud at night with passing cars, motorcycles, revving trucks, train in the distance. It was conveniently located to various places to shop for food, supplies, etc. and to go running on local trails. The owner came by the property every day while we were there - friendly man. Overall, we were pleased and would consider returning for future visits.
