Stayed for 5 nights. Was pleasant. Staff were very polite & the food was great. I would recommend staying at the Blades.
Thanks to the team. Special shout out to the security lady at the gate, great energy & always smiling.
Absolutely not what is advertised. Waiters service excellent. Food not bad. We were refunded.
Conditions of room is dirty and their were holes in bedding. Old candle with burnt matches lying in the room. The buildings are tired. You may not use the lawn by the river unless a picnic is booked. Bedding not premium. It has so much potential but if not seriously upgraded like broken chairs and hotel carpet in reception filthy it wont be open foe long.
In all we had a pleasant stay. Lovely setting and staff. Room size was disappointing as I had a different impression from the website booking (photos and price paid).
We have always stayed at The Blades when we visit Pretoria. This has been once a year for the past 3 years.
The main reasons we loved to stay there was the peace and quiet and it’s riverside location with beautiful river views.
Our room is always spacious and the bed amazing and comfortable. In the past, they included small things like bath salt and candles, which they stopped doing for our recent visit. The breakfast selection is extensive.
A few points of note: they recently built an extremely noisy farm / machine on the hillside directly behind the main building. This is a huge distraction and the only thing you hear after 9am Mondays to Saturdays.
It’s a shame The Blades could not prevent this from happening as the peace and quiet is now completely gone.
, which was one of it’s main attractions.
Other than that, the service is always great and all staff extremely helpful.

They did not inform us that the Spa was closed and that was what we were looking forward to. There were a lot of insects so your room windows and doors had to be closed at all times, and sitting on the balcony was not possible with the amount of flies and insects. Also whilst eating there were numerous flies around. There is not much to do, especially with the Spa being closed. We had to travel out to another hotel to use their Spa facilities.
We enjoyed a great 3 night stay and we loved our spacious suite. It was serviced well and in good time each day. The service from all staff was friendly and accommodating. We especially enjoyed our terrace lunch and the excellent prices in the restaurant.
We would definitely stay again.
We went there for our 1 year anniversary, and although we only booked on the Thursday. they were able to accommodate us. They arranged a romantic turn down, did a romantic table, for us and even made a desert that said Happy Anniversary. It was wonderful, the staff were excellent and very accommodating, we will definitely go back again.
The Blades provided the perfect experience to "get out of the city" without being too far out of the city. I loved the environment and the look and feel of the place, especially the "rooms," which were individual houses that were comfortable and beautiful inside. I had a wonderful view of the water from my private balcony and enjoyed the views from my window. The food was very good and the staff was AMAZING and charming. I will definitely come back!

Good family outing for a weekend's stay
Some of the furniture, particularly the couch, was looking very aged and unappealing, and on of the hand basins had a leaking drain. It doesn't seem much is effort is being put in keeping the rooms modernized and it top form, however the cleanliness, food and general service was in top order. It also had plenty of space and spots for the family to relax outdoors.
The Blades is in a beautiful, serene and relaxed setting. The food was good (both breakfast and dinner). I felt the sofa and chair in our room could do with some cleaning. Receptionist was welcoming and friendly.

Overall enjoyable.
Food at dinner time needs attention in terms of presentation.
Staff needs some training around food options.
But food tastes great!
