"I recently traveled to Winchester, Virginia to participate in a Bishop's Event, i.e., the "Third Winchester Battlefield 5k/10k/Half Marathon" event to raise money for a great charity, i.e., twenty-five percent of any profits scheduled to be received by a charity that provides assistance to medical researchers and/or patients in need of an organ transplant.
I thought the Courtyard by Marriot Winchester was a lovely place to stay and I had a day or so to rest up for my event plus also enjoyed walking around the local area, not far from a nearby hospital/surgical center behind the hotel plus some very nice shop (e.g., a Walmart, a gas station, and several small restaurants, e.g., an Applebee's, a "Bojangles" fried chicken place, an IHOP and two banks in the shopping center just a few short steps away, i.e., adjacent to the hotel.
So, I enjoyed a little bit of shopping, purchased a couple of cool cotton t shirts and shorts for the summer months. I also thought the people at the front desk of the hotel were very welcoming and gracious, happily informing me of the fact that the local apple blossom festival which had just started and numerous activities that would be occurring to kick-start this annual festival in the local Winchester area. (I didn't attend any of these events but it was nice to know others would be enjoying a very special time or weekend and although I was there for a different reason, it all combined to create a pleasant, welcoming and quiet atmosphere.)

Holiday Inn Express Winchester South-Stephens City by IHG
8/10 Good
"Clean room and hotel. Breakfast was good. Rooms need enough towels for up to 4 people if the room sleeps 4. Also handle in shower was loose and actually came apart and ended up in my hands"
"I didn’t eat breakfast so I cant speak to that. I make this run often so I keep a list of good and bad places to stay. This is definitely on the good list. I mostly decide on timing, but I would probably cut it a little short or push a little longer to make it there. The staff (Roy) was helpful (and entertaining). The place was clean and convenient. They'll see me again for sure."
"The room was disappointing. The pictures had been removed and repairs were not made to the walls. Paint drips on the floor of the bathroom. Parking was good but the highway noise level was not good. The coffee was bad."
"The hotel and room were okay, and the breakfast was good. However, I was disappointed to find a large stain on my sheets that I didn’t notice until the morning.
As far as the checkout experience. I waited about 15 minutes for someone to come to the front desk, but no one showed up. While I was standing there, I checked my email and saw I needed to check out electronically. There was no communication about this beforehand, so I had no way of knowing."
