About this property
Green Lake: Charming Cottage with Sandy Beach & Dock - Ideal for Family Getaways
The Lazy Lodge is nestled at the tip of a serene peninsula, accessed via a private drive extending over 200 feet. Secluded amidst lush woodlands, this lakefront abode offers breathtaking views and boasts a spacious private backyard, ideal for unwinding. With 85 feet of exclusive shoreline featuring a firm sandy bottom and no sudden drop-offs, relaxation by the water is assured.
Our charming cottage, spanning over 1,500 square feet on more than three-quarters of an acre, comprises three bedrooms and two full bathrooms—all on a single level, with minimal stairs for accessibility. Sleeping arrangements include a queen bed, a full bed, bunk beds, and an additional twin bed. The open layout accommodates the entire family, centered around a generous farmer's table seating eight adults comfortably.
Expansive panoramic windows adorn the lakeside, inviting the scenic beauty indoors, while rustic elements like solid pine board living areas, a wood-burning fireplace, and a limestone hearth enhance the cozy ambiance. Recent updates to the kitchen include new drywall, paint, stove, dishwasher, sink, faucet, and granite countertops. In 2022, we installed new windows, ceiling fans in the bedrooms, and updated the living room furniture.
Situated on the shores of the 2,000-acre crystal-clear Green Lake, surrounded by state parks, nature preserves, and the renowned Interlochen Arts Academy, the Lazy Lodge offers a tranquil retreat perfect for swimming, fishing, and boating. Just minutes away from Traverse City, Crystal Mountain Ski and Golf Resort, Sleeping Bear Dunes National Park, wineries, concert halls, casinos, and golf courses, there's no shortage of activities to enjoy.
During the summer months, a minimum 7-night stay with Saturday check-in/out is required.

The location of the cottage is ideal. There is so much to do nearby. It is comfortable, well appointed and the hosts are responsive. We really enjoyed our stay and would love to return!
The Green Lake cottage was perfect. The house had everything we needed and more. The inside and outside space were wonderful. I would stay here every time I make a trip back to that area of the country.
The property is beautiful! My family had such a nice time. The lake is beautiful and the water is crystal clear. The house was perfect for us. The views of the lake were great, and the house itself was so clean and inviting. We’d love to come back again!
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Being on the lake was wonderful, watching the sunrise, paddling around the lake, enjoying the quiet neighborhood. Was pleasantly surprised to see and hear all the wild birds, loons, hawks, buzzards and ducks. Lovely!
This rental offers a serene, Peaceful environment . It is a clean , comfortable cottage on the lake in a beautiful neighborhood. It is close to Interlochen and traverse city so we had lots to do . We kayaked , took walks , had campfires and totally enjoyed each moment , great place to relax and enjoy family!
Cozy home with great views of the lake. Like having 2 living rooms. Well equipped kitchen. Enjoyed having the kayaks and canoe to use. Good location to take drives to Lake Michigan beaches, Leland, and other nearby beautiful spots.
Lazy Lodge is a slice of Americana. A wonderful lakeside cabin perfect for families to spend summer days playing on Green Lake. I felt like I was in a Copland piece. The Schmudes were warm and welcoming hosts and responded to all communications. We feel blessed to have briefly found this piece of Northern Michigan. 10/10
Such a beautiful location with great views across the lake, very secluded (none of the neighbors were home), very quiet! Decent kitchen.
Would have been 5 stars except for some small annoyances: WiFi network was out; pillows were not great; Shower was tiny and cramped; oversized bathtub could not be filled all the way without running out of hot water. Very dated decor, but some people might find it charming. Decent kitchen.
The property is as described in the listing. It’s a well-loved cabin perfect for swimming, campfires, and family game nights at the large dining table overlooking the lake. I brought my mom and aunt, who are in their 70s, up for a girl's weekend. The house may be challenging to navigate for anyone with moderate mobility issues, but my aunt, who uses a can at times, did just fine. The lake is easily accessible via the nicely built cement stairs, and everyone felt very comfortable getting in the water for a swim. Water is crystal clear, and the bottom of the lake is nicely groomed and weed-free, from the yard to clear past the dock. I didn’t even bother using my water shoes. The water by the house is very shallow and would be perfect for kids. I’m 5’10, and the water at the end of the dock was about waist deep for me. Having the inner tubes and other floats was great. We would have loved to try the kayaks if we had more time. I would definitely come back again. Thank you for sharing your home with us.
PROS: Location, access to lake, the canoe & kayaks provided were great. New couch & chairs in main living area were very comfortable & the chairs spun to look out at the view. Kitchen & dining area are large & the overall layout is nice. Appreciated an empty cabinet in the kitchen to use as a pantry for our food. Picture windows/sliding door in both living rooms and kitchen provided a beautiful view of the lake.
CONS: It’s very obvious only surface level cleaning took place. All 3 bedroom closets were full of random owner belongings, not leaving room for guest suitcases/storage. Some of the cooking utensils had food on them and the pots and pans were just thrown in the cabinets making it difficult to find anything and get anything out (took time to reorganize just to use for week). The drawer with oven-mitts/kitchen towels had rodent droppings inside it as did the game cabinet. Light next to couch was full of dead bugs. Bunk bedroom was musty smelling, especially the table between the beds. Bunk bedroom windows were very difficult to line up to lock. Under beds was alarmingly dusty/dirty including random socks/trash (checked to make sure nothing fell and was being left behind). Water pressure in the shower was a trickle at best. Hand soap provided was watered down so we had to replace it. A fish head was in the enclosed bench in the canoe. All this considered the cleaning fee seems outrageous.
Clean, great location, plenty of space for the family. Loved the dock and using the kayaks. Sunrises on the lake were wonderfully serene. Very quiet lake. Lots of fans to offset the lack of a/c on the rare warm night.
We really enjoyed sitting in the living room and looking across the lake thru the picture windows. Very nice and quiet neighborhood. The place was clean and nicely equipped. Would definitely go back.
Who knew! We felt very lucky to stay at this cottage on this lake; what a gem. Everything was perfect.

There were some maintenance issues at the beginning of our stay but the owners were quick and very responsive. The property is in a great location with nice beach right outside our door. The weather was not so great but we all had a good time. I would suggest a few updates, such as a new water heater and a water purifier as the well water was very strong.

Great lakefront; house needs work
The lakefront and outdoor space is great; and the living space in the house is comfortable -- two separate sitting areas are spacious. Kitchen is large and kitchen table fit our large group. However, the house needs some work. The second bathroom shower had only scalding hot water, so couldn't be used. The kitchen, on the other hand, had no hot water. Outdoor grill had rusted through and couldn't be used. Bedrooms are small, and one had no closet space. Overhead light didn't work in kids bedroom, etc.

5-Star Lake, but House Needs Work
I can't say enough good things about Green Lake - it is a perfect balance of fun and beauty. The location across from Interlochen to hear concerts was great too! The house on the other hand needs some attention. First, the house, especially the bedrooms, had a very strong musty smell and I had to immediately purchase plug in fresheners to be able to survive the strong smell. Some of the bedroom and bathroom windows don't open (old, painted shut windows) so it was hard to get good air circulation in some places. Second, everything just needs to undergo a good cleaning (maybe that will help the smell). Finally, the furniture is so worn that there is a piece of plywood underneath the sofa cushions because presumably there is no support left. And the cushions on the chairs were thin and extremely worn. For the price charged, I expected more in terms of cleanliness and comfort.

Nice location
It is a water front home and my kids enjoyed the water and kayaks . The hosts were great at answering any messages we sent. As for the house itself it can use some work. There is a musty mildew smell especially in the bedroom areas. The water pressure can definitely be better . We had a wedding to attend and there were only 4 of us that needed to shower but ran out of hot water and had to wait in between. The musty smell through the house made our luggage and clothes smell too, which wouldn’t have been horrible if we didn’t have to go to a wedding. I did alert the hosts about the smell and sent pics of wetness/mold stains along the wall & floor and they said they would be checking it out in the next couple weeks so that is a good thing. The home served it’s purpose in giving us a space to stay but otherwise I have to say I feel we definitely overpaid for what we received. Hopefully they can get things fixed.

Beautiful property
We really enjoyed this beautiful property, at the end of a long, narrow peninsula on Green Lake, right across the lake from Interlochen, and especially our time on the dock. The house itself was spacious enough for our party of 4 to spread out comfortably while inside. This is a great spot for swimming, with a sandy and gradual wade-out. We all said it would be a great place to bring kids! It's also very close to Traverse City, Sleeping Bear Dunes -really a perfect place to stay in this gorgeous region. Pure Michigan, indeed!
The condition was pretty much as pictured; it's an older place that is quite understandably filled with the owners' old sheets, towels, spare dishes, old shower curtain, older appliances, etc. We had a bit of trouble with bugs (tiny like fruit flies, totally harmless and not icky) and I still did a brief cleaning of the kitchen upon arrival. As others have noted, the oven does not work well so keep an eye on anything you are cooking/baking as timing and temp will likely be a bit off. Do also be careful to bring in any chairs whenever you leave, as one of the red plastic chairs blew off the dock one night and it was a $30 replacement. These are more tips than complaints -just a heads up for others!
We all loved the Lazy Lodge and would absolutely return. Thank you, Holly!
We really enjoyed the location right on Green Lake, the ability to dock a boat, and the availability of a pair of kayaks to use. The fire pit by the water was a great place to hang out in the evening. The road that runs up through the peninsula was a very pleasant t place to take a walk. The kitchen was stocked with dishes and cooking utensils.
First of all: I read the previous reviews about a musty smell. We have stayed in cabins with that smell, this place does NOT have a musty smell. The owner responded to those reviews that the windows had been replaced. We can confirm the windows appear new and there is no musty smell.
Cabin was clean and spacious. There are 2 separate living rooms with TVs and that was nice. It allowed 2 groups to relax at the same time without getting crowded. We had 7 people there (5 adults and 2 kids) and never felt crammed. There are actually 2 bathrooms but the second bathroom shower was not currently working, but toilet worked fine, that was a nice bonus as listing says 1 bathroom. It is right on the water and it has a sandy bottom and gets deeper very slowely, so it is great for kids. Dock was in good shape and made it easy to launch/land boat each time. Kitchen is nice and everything works. Peninsula that the cabin on is beautiful and we usually went on 2 walks every day to enjoy the scenery. Grill is nice and large and in good condition. They provided a nice fire pit, lots of nice andorandak chairs and a picnic bench outside for outdoor meals. Interlochen is a great play to stay and only 30 minutes outside of Traverse City. Fishing was not great but did catch a nice 32” pike and a 21” dogfish. Neighbors are somewhat close, but setup makes it pretty private. Also, this property is on the calm side of Green Lake. Several days it was almost completely placid on our side and on the other side of the peninsula there were white caps.
Great location, accurately described, the kitchen was very well stocked, the beds were comfy, check in was a breeze and plenty of water toys. The place had a rustic charm and the water was gin clear with a sandy bottom. The property manager came over upon arrival to let us know she was available should we need anything and she brought us a cherry pie (and it was excellent). Thank you for sharing this great place. We will definitely be back.
