A great place to stay if you want to see Aurora!
It’s so far from any city so you get the full dark sky here, even the weakest aurora would be so vivid in this place.
They have a WhatsApp group so everyone on site can share information if they see aurora.
The place has a restaurant and the foods are amazing with a reasonable price!
Plenty of activities you can do on site as well.
Recommend to stay minimum 3/4 nights.
My first 2 nights were cloudy but 3rd night was one of the best auroras in my trip.
I really enjoyed my stay in Giellajohka. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. The area was beautiful and peaceful and there was almost no light pollution.
We felt at home right from the start. The surroundings, the peace and quiet, the food, the possibility to hire skis and snowshoes, the friendliness of all the staff and of course the northern lights and reindeer right on the doorstep. Simply a dream. We would love to come back and have already recommended it to others.
Absolutely fabulous, no joke! The cabin Halla was exactly what we were looking for. You can see the northern lights from your bed. The three cabins are sufficiently far from one another so that you are not disturbed by the neighbors. The cabin itself has everything one needs. Staff was welcoming
Best for northern light viewing in the area, with extremely friendly and helpful owner/staff make this place easily get the best rating for the place to stay.
It was a great stay. Staff was friendly, helpfull and the accomodation was very comfortable. It is nice and relatively small so no mass tourisme which makes the experience much more personal. We stayed for a week.
Not our first time there and it is never a disappointment! Our favorite place ever, everything is perfect: from the cabine, to the activities, the service, the food.. We will be back!!
The house we stayed is very nice and the warm feeling makes you like to stay at home. The staff is very nice and very helpful. You can join the whatsapp group where the staff will update and inform you when aurora comes. It is really a nice service! On the other hand, a camp fire will be set up outside by the staff such that we can stay longer time outside to take photo of aurora.
It is really a perfect place to stay to watch aurora and we will come back to enjoy again in future.
We stayed at Giellajohka for 6 days and wished we had longer. It was magic. The river cabins are cozy, warm and have a substantial kitchen. We enjoyed the in cabin sauna and the beautiful floor to ceiling window meant we enjoyed the aurora from our bed while having a cup of tea early in the morning. The property is run by Anita and her son Jouni and they are actively involved passionate hosts. We loved them and all the staff. The activities were well run, relaxed, intimate and so
much fun. No mass tourism to be found. There are beautiful walk, ski and snowshoe tracks from your doorstep and all the gear to borrow. The food was good. We loved reindeer soup and the breakfasts, especially the pancakes with jam. Yum! Don’t hesitate booking it would be impossible to regret a stay here.
We were here from 23 to 27 January 2023 and enjoyed our stay very much!
Routa was perfect! The location was away from light and the glass windows were so clean, we could stay inside and step outside to take pictures when aurora arrived. We saw aurora on Day 1, 3 and 4, i.e. a 75% chance.
We used our private sauna every day, so relaxing. And we ordered afternoon tea every day, yummy and affordable. We tried the fireplace as well, it looked gorgeous in pictures.
The beds and the fully-equipped kitchen, etc. All were just great! And lastly, we would like to thank for the airport transfer service. Our flight was reschedule to a late night flight in a sudden, thanks so much for picking us up.
We shall visit here again in coming 2 to 3 years, in mid September to see the fall colors and aurora!
