1. Hotel Harzhaus

Hotel Harzhaus
Oberharz am Brocken
8.0 out of 10, Very good, (57 reviews)
"Das Hotel ist sehr schön gelegen. Wir waren für zwei Nächte dort. Das Hotel ist etwas in die Jahre gekommen, vermutlich weil außer dem Besitzer und einer Reinigungskraft keiner im Hotel beschäftigt ist. Ich hoffe, dass sich das bald ändert, damit das Hotel nicht verfällt. Das Frühstück war in gut, wenn auch nicht sehr abwechslungsreich. Aber für einen kurzfristigen Aufenthalt in Ordnung."

"Pension Barbara is a very cosy and clean pension right next to the paths leading up to The Brocken. The hostess was very sweet and attentive, and we had a good stay. Schierke as a town is a bit dated and quiet in the autumn, when we visited. Is was difficulty to find a place to just have a couple of drinks etc. The national park, Brocken and paths are all excellent for a short hiking-holiday. Great nature, chalenging paths (if you want it), nice restaurant on the summit."

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Ilfeld?
The best area to stay in Ilfeld is directly within the village centre, particularly near the Neanderklinik.

This central part of Ilfeld offers convenience and easy access to local amenities. You'll find it's a pleasant area for a stroll, with a few local shops and eateries. The main road, Harzquerbahn Street, runs through here, connecting you to other parts of the region.

Couples looking for a relaxing break will appreciate the tranquillity of this area. It's a good base for exploring the surrounding Harz Mountains, with walking trails easily accessible. You can enjoy the peace and quiet after a day of discovery.

Families might also find this area suitable, especially if they're looking for a calm environment.
When is the best time to go to Ilfeld?
The best time to visit Ilfeld is during the spring and autumn months, specifically from May to June and September to October, when the weather is most pleasant for outdoor exploration.

These periods offer comfortable temperatures, ideal for hiking and exploring the natural beauty of the Harz Mountains. You'll find the forests vibrant with new growth in spring or rich with autumnal colours, making for picturesque scenery without the peak summer crowds.

Summer, from July to August, is also a good option, particularly if you enjoy warmer weather and don't mind the possibility of more visitors. This is when all local attractions are fully operational, and the longer daylight hours allow for extended outdoor activities.

Winter, from November to April, can be quite cold with snow, which is great if you're interested in winter sports or enjoy a quiet, snowy landscape.
