The best area to stay in Hotavlje is the village centre, particularly around the Church of St. Lawrence.

This area is the heart of Hotavlje and offers a peaceful setting surrounded by natural beauty. It's a small, spread-out village, so hotels and guesthouses here provide easy access to local walking trails and a genuine experience of Slovenian rural life. The main road through the village, connecting to nearby Šentvid pri Stični, provides straightforward access.

For couples seeking a quiet escape, the village centre is ideal. You'll find opportunities for gentle hikes directly from your accommodation, enjoy traditional Slovenian hospitality, and experience a truly relaxing break away from the hustle and bustle. The local eateries, though few, offer authentic regional dishes.

Travellers looking for a base to explore the wider Škofja Loka region will also find the village centre convenient.

The best time to go to Hotavlje is during the shoulder seasons of late spring (May-June) and early autumn (September-October) for pleasant weather and fewer crowds.

During these months, the weather is generally mild and agreeable, superb for exploring the natural beauty of the Poljane Valley and engaging in outdoor activities like hiking and cycling. You'll find the landscapes lush in spring with wildflowers or adorned with rich autumnal colours, offering fantastic photo opportunities. The main tourist rush of the summer will have subsided, allowing for a more relaxed experience at local attractions and eateries.

For those interested in winter sports, the period from mid-December to March offers reliable snow conditions. Hotavlje is well-placed for accessing nearby ski resorts, making it an excellent base for a winter getaway.
