Very cute house and bungalow in a great location, just a short walk from downtown Saugatuck shopping and restaurants. We loved the fenced in yard for our dog.
Our stay was excellent. The Butterfly Cottage is situated in a quiet spot and only a couple of blocks from everything. Also, the host Diane was very responsive when needed.

This was my second time staying at the Butterfly Cottage, and it’s such a special place. It is perfect for a girls trip - we had the best time hanging out at the house, and it’s also a very short walk right into town for coffee, shopping, and dining! I highly recommend the Butterfly Cottage and can’t wait to come back!
The home is located just steps away from great restaurants and shopping in downtown Saugatuck. The home was very clean and our dog enjoyed the fenced in back yard. It is a perfect home for a family visiting the area!!
Trip with girlfriends. Great house and wonderful locatIon. We could easily walk in to town for shopping and meals. The house was clean and we had ample seating for hanging out. We had a wonderful stay. Host is very easy to work with and is responsive.
Girlfriend’s spending a few days talking, laughing, and shopping. The Butterfly cottage in Saugatuck was the perfect place to stay. Within walking distance to all the shops and restaurants in Saugatuck.

Charming decor, nice location, needs attention
Charming decor, great location. In need of general up keep and a new housekeeper/ property manager. Carpenter ants and stink bug problem. Only one roll of toilet paper, disposal did not work, no dishwater tablets, TV remote broken, needs a deep clean.
The property was clean and had all of the essentials.Theer was a problem with internet & tv which was beyond control of the host. However, she went above and beyond to try to solve the issue.Only recommendation is for a handrail on the basement stairs.
Get a new shower that is pretty diffucult to get into and the one glass panel was loose I ended up using the walk-in shower in the cottage which was wonderful also it would be nice to clean up the driveway from all those apples that are laying around you could turn your ankle if you parked on there at night I am pleased that all the locks are now electronic that was really great and easy even that back cottage door which was a trip you should update the instructions on opening that cottage door cuz you still have the old instructions the only other thing is the sprinkler system coming on in the middle of the night it's kind of noisy but it's always been like that we have stayed here many times and will continue to but these improvements that have been made are good and I'd like to see a couple other ones that I mentioned thank youConvenient location
It was wonderful. Fantastic location. Our elders could get around the house. The younger generation had the rear building. There was a fence for the dogs. The neighbors are friendly. We would come back. Charming cottage and property.
This was our second time staying here. We love the location, walking distance to downtown. The cottage is super cute and there are some great updates! Only complaint is there was dog hair all over the couch and dirty laundry was left in the washer, unwashed, when we checked in. We’re all human and I understand the cleaning people have a lot to do and it was something that was forgotten about, on accident. Has absolutely nothing to do with how wonderful the cottage is. We would definitely stay again.
This cute cottage is walking distance to all the shops, restaurants and riverfront in Saugatuck. The main house has one bath, and the bungalow in the yard has one bath. We were two couples (one stayed in the house, one in the bungalow) so that worked out well. The house and furnishing are older, but comfortable. We appreciated the washer / dryer in the basement. Also a nice plus when you are away for a week. There is also one off-street parking space, which comes in handy on the weekends. Communication from the owner was great. Love Saugatuck!
We (a medium sized group of women in our mid to late 20s) stayed at the Butterfly Cottage for a weekend and enjoyed our stay! It's a super cute cottage that easily slept 8 people. It was easy to check in/check out of and had a great outdoor space for meals.
A few small things to mention: in the guest house bed there were a few ants both nights of our stay, when we arrived there was a tick in the tub of the main house shower (possibly due to the space being where the towels/linens were all put for the last guests) and we were a little tight on paper towel/toilet paper due to not having as much as mentioned in the initial check in.
Overall, we had a great time and the space was perfect for our needs even with these small things. We appreciate the Butterfly Cottage hosts and their beautiful home!
We really enjoyed our time at the Butterfly Cottage! It was a cheery and comfortable space, and a great home base for our time at Lake Michigan. The Saugatuck/Douglas area seems particularly challenging for cell tower reception and reliable data, so having wifi was helpful when it was working smoothly. The back patio was lovely for summer evening dinners cooked in the kitchen, especially since we left home during a power outage with the full contents of our freezer - so we had plenty to cook! Some larger size bowls and platters would have been helpful for our party of 7, but creative use of pots and pans worked well! Thank you for a memorable stay!
The house is very cute & comfortable with room for friends to spread out.
My husband & I slept in the bungalow where it was nice to have a private bathroom.
The condition of the bungalow was very disappointing. Broken window blind, where we had to put pillows in the windows for privacy. The shower curtain was absolutely disgusting, black from mildew. (A $10 fix) and cobwebs everywhere. No ventilation which probably caused the mildew in the bathroom. We thought of turning on the ceiling fan, but it was very dirty too.
We absolutely loved the set up & cleanliness of Butterfly cottage & the bungalow. The decor is adorable & the furniture & beds were all comfy.
Walking to town is a cinch & pleasant. Katherine, the manager/owner responded quickly to any inquiries.
One toilet out of 2 for a fairly large group was non-working, as was the case w the overhead lights (both in the bungalow). At the end of our 2nd day (out of 3 nights), the toilet was repaired (plumber needed to make 2 trips) The lights were irreparable during our stay because the wall
Switch for them needed to be replaced ( there was one dim lamp in a large room that slept 4). The filtered water by the main house kitchen sink ran at a trickle & leaked onto the counter. Plumber didn’t address that at all. There was a shortage of basic supplies towels, face cloths & TP.
These were not killer problems - as we loved the place & its location. But these were all things that any diligent management wouid have checked over before our flights & arrivals for a family wedding. They were not “new” problems.
The whole downtown area has the dilemma of no convenience store/grocers. It was literally impossible to find even milk for coffee! Kinda strange not being able to pick up a few basics for the house. We didn’t have a car.
FYI - although town was very busy with visitors in early September, the little ferry that runs over to Douglas (& the grocery store) closes on Labor Day! The town “opens” late mornings. Lovely area.
The cottage is adorable and exceptionally clean, with all the comforts of home. Plenty of pillows, blankets, quilts and towels, and the kitchen was easy to cook a pot of chili and bake sourdough bread for our evening at home. The other meals we walked a couple of blocks to Ida Red’s for lunch and The Butler for dinner, window-shopping along the way. Took a 10-minute ride to the Oval for a short beach jaunt. The yard is fully fenced-in to keep my senior beagle mix dog safe. We had a perfect long weekend in February- fewer people, no wait anywhere, and plenty of parking when we needed it. Some favorite establishments are closed for the season - no surprise there!
