July visit

We loved Bar Harbor. The house is walkable to the town square. It was quiet and has off street parking. Management responded quickly to a maintenance concern. The kitchen had what we needed. Wi-Fi for 7 people was tough but we liked our stay.

Location is key but could use some updates

As others have said - the place could use a little upkeep- especially the walls (marks / chipped paint ) and the blinds/curtains. One of the rooms with a queen didn’t have AC (they updated the listing but just be aware depending on time of year you are going). Lots of space for 6 of us and the location is awesome to walk into town and avoid the parking ! So for location alone I would stay there again.

Perfect location!

Five/ten minute walk to downtown Bar Harbor, 5 minute drive to Acadia. Plenty of room for our family of 6 plus my parents. Couldn’t be happier with our vacation home!

14 Norris was an amazing location as a base camp for exploring Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor. I have stayed in many different accommodation types in the area and this was by far the best. Definite recommendation .

Excellent stay! The house was clean and was equipped with everything we needed. We really enjoyed the outdoor patio space and grill. This was a great place to come home and relax at the end of an active day. Amazing location- close to carriage roads, trail head and walking distance to Bar Harbor restaurants. Would definitely recommend to a friend!

Summer 2021 family vacation

From the moment we booked this property until the final day of our vacation, the vacasa property management team was extremely helpful and quick to answer any questions we had. They worked over and above while we were there with any issues we had. Thank you for making our stay wonderful!

Checked out 2 days early. The property was not cleaned thoroughly. There are cob webs and spiders on ceiling. Bathroom has mold on ceiling. Flooring is peeling up in dining room. For what we payed. The owner should do a better job a cleaning.

This is a great location if you`re visiting Bar Harbor. Downtown was only a short walk away, but the house was located on a quiet residential street away from crowds and noise. Groceries, restaurants, and shops are very close, and there`s even a farmers` market a few blocks away on Sundays. Stop at nearby Parsons for all your seafood needs and take a quick drive to visit nearby Acadia National Park. Our visit wasn`t without its hiccups, but it was easy to communicate with Katie, and Dale was only a phone call away if needed. We would stay here again.

I gave it to stars cause the only thing it has going for it is its location. It is close to downtown Bar Harbor and to Acadia. Otherwise, this home is a college rental during the year and it shows by how it is maintain, the one bathroom is covered in black mold on the ceiling and around the shower ,the is furniture needs to be replaced and some of it is even broken. The house needs a good cleaning. All the doors are filthy. In fact the house could use a good painting inside and outside The cupboards are filthy the pots need to be replaced. The house has potential but needs more care and maintenance. I would not recommend people staying there, especially in till they fix the mold in that bathroom.

This cottage is GREAT!!! It is a couple blocks from Main St. We walked to everything in town (getting to the waterfront is less than a mile). The pictures of the cottage are accurate but overall the cottage looks bigger in person. It was more than enough room for our family of four. We enjoyed hanging out in front of the tv together at night and relaxing from the day. It was great having a washer/dryer to do laundry while we were there too. It’s the PERFECT place to stay in Bar Harbor. We LOVED it!

Perfect location- in need of some updates

The location is absolutely perfect. However, house itself is in need of some updating (chipping paint, some stains on floors etc). There were no outdoor garbage cans and unfortunately no communication with owner to find them. Plenty of space- actually is bigger than photos appear.

Not an accurate depiction of the home

Not what we expected - home is old and tired. Decent location but not what the pictures showed on the site.

Walkable

The property was very walkable to town and had a nice cozy outdoor space. I would recommend bringing or buying at the store any condiments needed for basic cooking. This particular property doesn’t have salt/pepper/oil due to their leave absolutely nothing behind policy. For the price we were a bit disappointed with the overall appearance.

The home is pretty old, which is ok, but some things were really run down. A chair inside was ripped, when you sit in one of the couches, you sink almost to the floor! The beds were comfortable, the air conditioners worked, we had hot water. We wanted to sit outside at the table and chairs in the backyard, but there was bird poop on the cushions, and we flipped them over but the underneath side of the cushion was in worse shape! Very dirty! We realized after we got there that this home is owned by a college and they rent to students in this house, so the care the college has given the house is probably minimal. However you run your business is up to you, but we spent around 3000 for 4 nights…too expensive for what we got. The house was convenient to downtown Bar Harbor…which was the biggest plus of this house. I would never stay here again though.

The only thing this property has going for it is its location. Quiet, can walk to downtown bar harbor and is very close to Acadia. On the other hand, it was dirty. The furniture was old, worn and in some cases falling apart. There was one spot in the kitchen that very clearly had a lot of water damage. The bedrooms were lacking. The beds were fine. But one room had no ac. Another room didn’t have dark shades which woke us and our toddler up early every day. The rooms with the twin beds had one of their beds against the window and air conditioning unit. There was unfinished spackle spots throughout the house. There was mold in the shower. The backyard looked unusable. I paid for a late checkout and when we returned to the rental, the door code had already been changed. So that was also frustrating.

The house was great. Great location, very clean, very well equipped with everything you`d need (in the kitchen, the TV/wifi, etc), and good beds! Very nice street. We went with our family of four, and it was perfect. We either walked, rode bikes, or drove a very short stretch into town (if we were tired from hiking), and we went into the park every day. We took the Bicycle Express from town if we were going into the park with bikes, which was extremely convenient and easy - better than going by car. We took the shuttles into the park sometimes, and drove to the visitors center sometimes. Grocery store nearby (5 minutes by car), bike rental places, etc. Acadia National Park was spectacular!!!

Wow

Unbelievably filthy, old (not vintage, old dirty falling apart) and uncomfortable. They did credit us a little for the lack of cleanliness however it took away hours of we calling and waiting on the phone talking to various people to get it to happen. Have never had such a bad experience in a rental especially for the price point. Can’t believe they can continue to rent this place. Not to mention you can lock the front door but the windows next to the front door don’t lock so it’s not very safe.

Good resting place only

About property:What went well - Location is great - 15 min walk to Bar Harbor. Quiet, all one floor and nearby to grocery stores, restaurants etc. Vacasa customer service was great and timely communications. What wasn't right - The listing pictures are not a good reflection of actual house. Looks like pictures were taken few years ago and house has gone through changes since then. House doesn't seem to have been upgraded in a while.Blinds are torn and shredded. Serves it's purpose as a resting place but really needs some maintenance. It's disappointing given the pictures reflect something different. If you are expecting more than just a resting stay, you will be disappointed.Pictures show AC in atleast 2-3 BR but actually only one has it. Also some ACs would turn to heat suddenly though set to be cooling.Chairs, tables are too old and scrapping off the surface.Backyard isn't usable at all. Tables & chairs in backyard seemed not cleaned for weeks and torn.House lock was painful. We couldn't get in without few tries. Vacasa CS helped get in once when it didn't work at all.About VRBO: - It appears VRBO doesn't take responsibility of incorrect listing details or issues etc on it's platform as they offer to escalate to property owner, file complaint etc in case of issues/complaint. Not sure what value VRBO adds here.

Black Mold

Unfortunately, this house is currently not in a safe state to rent. When we arrived, the house was not very clean and a couple of the doors needed repairs. We mentioned this to the Vacasa staff and they sent someone out the next day. When we returned from an outing on our second day, we noticed someone had been by and mopped the floors. However there was a spot under the sink that was filthy. They made a poor attempt to clean that. Later a woman arrived, Ester, who was INCREDIBLY lovely and helpful. She fixed the doors quickly and took a look under the sink. She noticed immediately that there was black mold under the sink and advised us to leave immediately. She then spoke on the phone with the company about the issue. We left as my husband packed our belongings. We were traveling with my 11 month old baby and 3 year old child - not a safe environment for them. Vacasa found two options for us, neither of which where within 30 minutes of the house we booked, nor did they have the same amount of rooms. I then searched and was able to find us an air bnb that was close and the owner was very sweet and made it happen for us to book her place. All in all, this was not a pleasant experience. This house should not have been rented out. Someone knew about the mold under the sink as there was mold killer kept under the sink as well. Please ensure that if you wish to book this place that they have taken care of the black mold issue.

We found this house suited our needs perfectly, mostly a comfortable place to gather in the mornings and evenings after being out and about all day. It is in a quiet neighborhood, just a short walk from downtown Bar Harbor, making it very convenient to NOT have to park in town for restaurants, sightseeing, etc. The four bedrooms and two bathrooms worked great for our situation - two different families - and that was a plus. Plenty of space in the kitchen, dining area, and two sitting rooms. It was too warm -- yes, too warm in Maine! -- to use the porch, but it wasn`t too well furnished anyway. The back patio is functional, but was too warm to use while we were there, and the gas grill was a nice touch as we used it for some grilling one evening. The 4 a/c window units and 2 fans kept the air cool throughout the home. Parking could have fit 3 cars, our two big ones fit well. A few suggestions we`ve made to the hosts, who were great, were ... provide an ironing board to go along with the iron, install a disposal in the kitchen sink, and secure the front porch better. The porch windows could slide open easily, a good thing, but there wasn`t a way (we didn`t find one) to lock them. And it is only the outside porch door that locks when you leave, not the inside door, so too easy for someone to get past the porch windows and into the house while you`re away. Luckily Bar Harbor is a quiet town for the most part, and we had no problems, always back in the house with both doors locked during the evening.
