About this property

Historic Baker’s Cottage-Walk to Richmond Village

  • Summary:

Step back in time at Baker’s Cottage, a beautifully renovated 1830s home filled with historic character and modern comfort. Set in the heart of Richmond Village, it’s a short stroll to shops, cafés and local attractions, 21 minutes from Hobart Airport and 26 minutes from Hobart. With three spacious bedrooms, a sunroom, formal lounge and open-plan kitchen and dining area, it’s an ideal base for exploring Southern Tasmania.

    The Space:

Baker’s Cottage combines the character of an 1830s home with the modern comforts needed for a relaxing stay. The cottage accommodates up to six guests across three spacious bedrooms—two with queen beds and one with two single beds. A portable cot and highchair are available on request.

The fully equipped kitchen includes an oven, cooktop, microwave and dishwasher, making it easy to prepare meals during your stay. Relax in the comfortable formal lounge with a TV, DVD player and complimentary Wi-Fi. The bathroom includes towels, toiletries and a front-loading washing machine, with a separate toilet for added convenience.

There is a reverse-cycle air conditioner in the living room, along with portable heaters in each bedroom to keep you comfortable throughout the year. Please note that the fireplaces are decorative features only and are not available for guest use.

The open-plan kitchen and dining area leads to a paved alfresco space with outdoor dining, a BBQ and lovely garden views. The established garden features apple, apricot, nectarine, mandarin, lemon and lime trees. Ample off-street parking is available for multiple vehicles.

    Guest Access:

Guests have full use of the home for the duration of their stay.

    The Neighborhood:

Richmond is one of Tasmania’s most popular heritage destinations, known for its beautifully preserved Georgian buildings, historic churches and charming village atmosphere. Wander along the river, cross the historic Richmond Bridge, visit Richmond Gaol or explore the village’s cafés, bakeries, galleries, antique shops and local produce stores.

Surrounding Richmond is the picturesque Coal River Valley, one of Tasmania’s leading cool-climate wine regions. Spend a relaxed day visiting nearby cellar doors, including Pooley Wines, Puddleduck Vineyard, Every Man and His Dog Vineyard, Frogmore Creek and Riversdale Estate. The region is particularly celebrated for its pinot noir, chardonnay and sparkling wines, along with locally produced cheese, chocolate, berries, honey and seasonal fruit.

After a day exploring, enjoy lunch at a vineyard, settle in for a cosy meal at one of Richmond’s restaurants, take a picnic to the Village Green or return to Baker’s Cottage for a BBQ in the garden. With history, food and wine experiences close by, Richmond is an ideal base for discovering the Coal River Valley and Southern Tasmania.

    Getting Around:

A car is a must, but there is a bus service that travels to and from Richmond to Hobart, timetable information available online. Uber and Taxis are also available.

Cute, warm and cosy property

Well presented property. Very clean and tidy with a welcoming atmosphere. Good sized back yard for kids ball games. Very conveniently located close to Main Street of Richmond ( within easy walking distance). A very quiet location. Beautiful front sunroom. All furnishings in the home were top quality and extremely comfortable. We would love to stay here again in the future.

Richmond

Very disappointed we moved on .. Whilst quaint we arrived to a stifling hot cottage with no ability to open windows especially in bedrooms at over 30 degrees inside the air in the lounge made zero difference . The shower was difficult to navigate and awkward and the property to our surprise lacked privacy with several people waking passed looking straight in . No screens on doors or windows and the mosquitoes were an issue

Location, location, location

The Baker's cottage was wonderfully close to the town of Richmond. A few minutes walk and you were on the main street. The cottage is compact, however clean and neat inside and kitchen had all items required except the coffee machine that was listed. The only minor downside was the lack of opening windows in the bedrooms and no screen doors to the house. It meant the house did get quite hot overnight when you had to close up. One split system in the loungeroom didn't reach the bedrooms to have an impact on the temperature. This wouldn't be a problem if travelling in a season other than Summer. Can recommend Baker's cottage for its charm, location and comfy beds.
