Best of Old and New - Hobart
Coming to Hobart? Don't book a standard hotel! Make your time in Hobart an experience you will remember. Stay in a Circa 1900, fully renovated and re-juvenated townhouse. This will be your home away from home and add to your memories of Old Hobart Town. Within an easy and level stroll to the Hobart CBD or a similar walk to North Hobart restaurants you will certainly be handy to the attractions without being right in the middle of the action.
The townhouse itself retains all the features of the era, with stained timber stairs (yes they are a bit steep but that's the way they built them over 100 years ago), ceiling roses, fireplaces with mantles, sash windows and the most superb polished floorboards you will find. The rear kitchen and conveniences have recently been re-built to add a touch of modern practicality without losing the overall charm of this wonderful building.
Included are quality timber furnishings, all linen, floor rugs, fully equiped kitchen, two queen size beds with side tables and everything to make your stay comfortable. There is a reverse cycle heat pump, panel heater, and portable heaters, just in case the unpredicable Tasmanian weather is new to you.
If you haven't tried short stay accommodation before then why not give it a go. We have many satisfied guests over many years. We offer value for money and the comfort and flexibility of providing a full home away from home. Where you can choose to go out and enjoy the sights and sounds of Hobart or maybe just stay in and chill out.
BEDDING There are 2 bedrooms, both with queen size beds. There is a port-a-cot and high-chair available upon request. Please let us know if you require these items prior to your stay.
PARKING Parking is on-street only. There are 1 and 2 hour spots available directly outside the house and there are some all day spots further up Warwick Street as well as the side streets. Parking restrictions only apply during business hours and you will be almost guaranteed to get a spot either outside or within 20 metres of the house.
SECURITY There is a doorbell camera located at the front door. It actively records audio and video from the house towards Warwick St. There is also a camera actively recording the front porch area.

Awesome properly, full of character with all the modern comforts.Super comfortable, super awesome location close to everything. With an easy 5-7 minute stroll into the CBD via either Murray or Elizabeth streets, then come back to a quiet part of West Hobart.Highly recommended
The house was charming but a bit unpractical for 2 adults and 3 teens. The location was great with walking distance to the center of Hobart which made it possible for the teens to explore by themselves without being dependent on our car. The house was a bit cold (as most houses in Australia).
This is a very nice place for a short stay in Hobart. Located on the transition point from CBD to residential, it's a 10-min walk into downtown, and the Elizabeth St restaurant strip is a short, easy walk, just a couple of small blocks away. Access into the property takes 3 seconds, using a touchpad and 4-digit code. Both QS were very comfy, with light ?woollen doonas on top, but no top flat sheet to fold over. It was nice to have ample room to stow all of our clothing in the generous wardrobes. There were extra blankets available. The physically-challenged may need to take extra care descending from the bedrooms via the narrow staircase with shallow steps. There was ample heating both upstairs and downstairs. The kitchen was very well equipped, although you need to know to manually select 'Micro' on the microwave/convection oven to get it to re-heat drinks etc. We eventually figured it out after thinking it didn't work at all. The bathroom and laundry were both excellent, with plenty of hot water at good pressure. There were plenty of good-quality towels, hand-towels, shower mats and facewashers etc. Weekday mornings see a small but noticeable increase in traffic noise just outside the building, but nothing overly annoying. There is free parking out the front of the property 8 am - 6 pm, with a 1-hour limit on the near-side, and a 2-hr limit on the other side of the road, meaning you'll need to move your car by either 9 or 10 am in the mornings, depending on where you park.
We loved our stay at Justin’s place in West Hobart. Three of us stayed. House is clean, comfortable and conveniently located. It’s close to some great cafes and restaurants, in particular Bar Wa (best Japanese in Hobart). It is an easy 10-15 min walk to town. We would definitely stay again.
We had a very enjoyable stay here - the older aspects of the home give character and warmth to the home, while modern features provide comfort.
Note - The stairs are quite steep and you need to be careful when using them.
Beautiful house, wonderful location and very easy booking. Lots of comments about the stairs being steep however I didn’t find that at all. Only thing was very dusty under the bed but that’s nothing when the house has everything you need.
Very well presented. We are both well into our eighties
and able to cope with the bathroom being downstairs
from the bedrooms. Others less agile need to keep this
in mind.
Great property!! Others have mentioned the creaking and somewhat steep internal stairs, and this was certainly the case. To me, this reflects in the character of the house. Property was well located and had almost all the core things you would normally use at home including cling wrap and alfoil. Communicating with Justin was very easy, and he went a step further than most by providing some wood for the fire pit. We managed fine with the restricted hours on-street parking. We would happily stay here again... and bring our 'Baby Q' bbq with us. Cheers.
The house is located in West Hobart, walking distance to Elizabeth St with restaurants and pubs/ bars. The house was clean and tidy, as described. Would definitely consider staying again.
Lovely character cottage. Good base for exploring Hobart. The only minor issue was parking but managed to find all day street parking within 5 min walk.
The Best of Old and New is a lovely, comfortable place to stay in Hobart. The accommodation has everything you need for your stay, very comfortable beds, fully equipped kitchen, clean and plenty of space. Great location and close to the CBD and only a 15 - 20 minute walk to the Pier/Wharf and Markets. Definitely a great place to stay. Justin is a great host and very accommodating.
I had a couple of changes of date due to Covid lockdowns but Justin was great in accommodating the date changes. The house is great, very roomy. It includes everything you need. The stairs to the bedrooms could be an issue for older or less mobile guests, care is needed. There is a light at the top of the stairs and I’d suggest you turn the light on before you head down the stairs at night. I loved the house, it’s a pity I was only there for 5 days.
A very cosy and comfy place for a short visit to Hobart. Very centrally located, we walked to many great eateries, into town, to the wharf and more.
The beds were so comfortable and with heating plus electric blankets we were not cold. A fantastic shower with good pressure.
Parking our rental car was a little tricky with limited all day parking but not too hard to overcome.
I would definitely stay again.
Property had all the amenities one would need however the stairs to upstairs bedrooms are very steep. As aspect no doubt of old 2 story houses in Hobart.
Perhaps the outdoor furniture could have a recent clean as table quite dirty & multiple spider webs on chairs.
Charming old building to stay in close to central Hobart. Had everything you need for a stay. Could walk to Elizabeth street in 5 minutes and Salamanca in 20 minutes. Quiet area with beautiful houses and lots of cafes and restaurants in easy walking distance.
