About this property
Luxury Lake Cabin by New River Trail w/ Dock/Canoes/Steam Room/Fireplaces...
This mountain lake retreat is where people come to relax, connect and get away from it all. Surrounded by nature and adventure... Lost Horizon has been a honeymoon retreat, family celebration destination, girlfriend getaway and fishing/biking hideout for lovers of the outdoors. Hikers, bikers and cross country skiers love the 57 mile New River Trail within walking distance of Lost Horizon. If you like watching birds, deer and a forest full of other animals... have a seat on one of the porches or decks at Lost Horizon – and don’t forget your camera.
Join them, or watch fishermen along the shoreline from your private hideaway above the lake. Go down to the spacious deck for a day in the sun or cook-out on the lake, feed the ducks, or fish from the dock. You’ll have a fire pit right on the lake for roasting marshmallows. Play a game of horseshoes and swing on the rope swing. Two Canoes, oars & life jackets are provided for your exclusive use; bring floats or boats for more fun on the water.
Don’t miss sunrise & sunsets over the water... they are magnificent! Thunderstorms are even wonderful here! Listen to the rain pounding on the tin roof during a downpour from the covered porch, or cozy up in the cool autumn nights surrounded by the fall foliage; listen to the silence of a snowfall in the mountains. Build a fire or light the gas logs in either fireplace and cozy up to relax into the warm surroundings.
Lost Horizon sleeps up to eight people. The top floor includes a bedroom suite; comfortable full futon sofa; private back deck above the pond, woods & flower gardens; shelves full of books and a cozy sitting area overlooking the main floor. The private master suite is charmingly intimate on the main floor where you find a fully-equipped kitchen, bar seating, small dining table, living room with a gas fireplace and bathroom with old fashioned claw-foot soaker tub.
Downstairs you have a large steam room/shower with benches (and 6 different shower heads), a bar, comfortable wrap around sofa & full futon. French doors lead out to the patio with a hanging swing overlooking the lake.
A few hidden treasures at Lost Horizon: Enjoy a library of DVDs & books (including “Lost Horizon”). There are family games and a guest book to share your experiences & read about the adventures of those before you. Sunsets from the deck or down at the dock will take your breath away. Lean back in the deck chairs & look up; you are likely to see eagles flying high above the trees in the daytime, and stars are brilliant on clear nights at Lost Horizon.

Our family had a wonderful time at the cabin. The view from the house is phenomenal - watching the sun set behind the mountains and lake was idyllic. The house was clean and welcoming, we felt right at home. We hope to be back again!
We really enjoyed staying at Lost Horizon. It was perfect for our time together as a family. The house was awesome and we loved it. The setting is the best. We really enjoyed going down to the dock and taking the canoe out several times. It was the perfect getaway for family time.
This was an absolutely amazing trip! The views were wonderful and the home was fantastic. The attention to every detail was great. Very clean and nothing was overlooked - even the fall decorations were PERFECT. Debbie was great to connect with - Thank you for sharing your lovely home, we will definitely be back again to enjoy the New River Trail and the lake area more!
We love Lost Horizon! This was our 3rd time staying here and the cabin is just perfect. We used the fire pit to roast S’mores, and the charcoal grill for burgers & hot dogs! The kayak and canoe got a lot of use and we brought our fishing polls to fish off the dock!
We had a great 3 night visit in October. The cabin is lovely, especially the wonderful river views. We enjoyed a lot of time outside on the deck, hiked a bit of the New River Trail, played a round of golf in Redford and visited The Draper Mercantile. We went down to the river and tried out the kayaks too. It was relaxing and fun.
This was our second time visiting Lost Horizon, and we absolutely loved our stay. The views are amazing! We kayaked, biked, relaxed by the water and on huge deck over looking the water. The house was decorated for autumn and had everything we needed for a great fall weekend. Deck table with gas firepit was awesome. Debbie was great! We appreciate her sharing such a nice cabin.
Our winter weekend at Lost Horizon was perfect. The home is a gem inside and out with so many gathering spaces, amazing views, as well as privacy. We enjoyed the gas fireplace, cooking in the well-equipped kitchen and sleeping in the comfy beds. The owner has an amazing collection of books displayed throughout her beautifully decorated home. We did not want to leave! Also, the owner, Debbie, was very helpful and easy to communicate with. We never got to try the steam room, but there will definitely be a next time.
We enjoyed our weekend at the cabin so much. Our son is a student at Virginia Tech and we were able to visit with him and enjoy the football game. It’s about 45 minutes to campus.
We also hiked Dragon’s Tooth which is a great (yet strenuous) hike, about an hour away.
We traveled with another couple and the cabin was perfect for the four of us. The cabin was clean, well stocked and very comfortable. The host’s attention to detail was very appreciated. We hope to stay here again in the future.
What an incredible week of rest and re-energizing spent at this cabin! Although our game plan was to spend the week on our bikes exploring the New River and Creeper Trails, we felt almost hesitant to leave our "new home"! The cabin feels very much like "your home", it is very well decorated, and super inviting! Whether you are preparing dinner in the abundant kitchen, or sipping coffee on one of many decks, or enjoying a campfire out back as the sunsets.. you will feel like you are "home"!! We absolutely loved our week here, and can't wait to come back and bring our friends to share the experience! Even a rain day spent in the big rocking chairs on the side deck feels like a highlight!!! Thank you Debbie for sharing your home with us!!!
A very nice house to stay for the weekend, it was clean and had a wonderful view. Walking down to the river was not bad but I would recommend the host really fix up a trail/path down that hill. Kayaks were nice to use, fishing was fun, hot tub worked great, beds were comfy, couches were comfy, house was awesome!
My young family (3 kids under 6) greatly enjoyed this beautiful cabin, amazing views from the deck, koi pond, fishing at the docks, and tons of wildlife. It was such a relaxing, secluded, and peaceful place!
Cabin was very quaint and nice. Views and outside area just great! I feel property should not be advertised as having any access to the river. The dock area was in needof repair and shelter falling down. Very difficult to walk down and I would not get in the water near the area. Suggesting is was a bonus to the property turned out to be a negative. We went to Claytor Lake Beach.

Beautiful, relaxing place - wish we could stay longer
Beautiful cabin with great views. Well kept and owner thought of many things that made it easy to enjoy. Had trouble getting access to canoes at dock but owner responded quickly so even with our short stay, we could use canoes before we left. Will look forward to coming back.

Go Bucks!!!
We had an amazing trip and loved the cottage!!!!!! Highly recommended. We were in town for the Ohio State vs Va Tech game.
Our family had a great time at Chestnut Springs! The view from the house was amazing. The water access was very nice, we enjoyed the kayaks. The location is very close to the New River Trail, we biked each day and returned to the dock for a picnic lunch. I appreciate the owner sharing such a wonderful home for others to enjoy. Look forward to returning!
