About this property

Nori Retreat—Unique Waterfront Heritage on Coorong

  • Steeped in history, this beautifully preserved 1883 home blends original character with everyday comforts. Its name, Nori, is inspired by the local Ngarrindjeri word for the Australian pelican, a graceful inhabitant of the surrounding Coorong wetlands.

High ceilings, polished timber floors and antique furnishings lend warmth to the interiors. The spacious living area features plush seating, a TV, a wood-burning fireplace and split-system heating and cooling, while two indoor dining areas seating eight each offer plenty of room for shared meals. One dining suite is particularly special, handcrafted in England and brought over by boat for the home. The generous kitchen makes cooking a pleasure, with extensive bench space, dual pantries, a large island bench and tranquil water views.

Outside, the expansive covered pergola is made for long afternoons, with alfresco dining, lounge seating, a BBQ and pull-down café blinds. Wander through the grounds to discover native vegetation, peaceful walking trails and a waterfront fire pit. Guests can also launch their own kayaks or canoes from the property or enjoy fishing from the front lawn.

Four bedrooms offer comfortable accommodation, including a spacious primary bedroom with a king bed, private sitting area and TV. The fireplace in the primary bedroom is decorative only and is not operational. Two further bedrooms feature a queen and double beds, one with direct access to the main bathroom, while the fourth has a single bunk bed. The bathroom includes a corner bath and separate shower, and a laundry with a washing machine and dryer adds convenience for longer, waterfront stays. Ample parking is available on-site.

Canoe the Coorong operates independently from a discreet base on the property, offering guests convenient access to guided kayaking tours and opportunities to explore the surrounding waterways. Tours are operated and booked separately, and you may occasionally see guides preparing for their excursions.

The property runs on rainwater and guests are kindly asked to conserve water during their stay. Use of the fire pit is subject to local fire restrictions.
