"My grandfather used to have a house with Shimla so I am very familiar with the place for the last 50+ years. Willow Banks is absolutely the best value for money you can find in the city. Very clean, very well located right next to the iconic mall road, right next to the tourist lift and very good service and clean and large rooms. "Access to the mall is the only plus. Furnishings in the rooms are outdated and dirty. I never sat in a sofa before that has no back cushions to support you. No convenient electrical outlets to plug electronics or bedside medical devices like CPAP. Breakfast is same old average tasting buffet. No parking. "It was very conveient to be able to walk to the hotel from the train station on arrival. The staff were exceptionally friendly and service oriented. I was pleased with the size and cleaniless of the room. Glad there was extra blankets as Shimla does get cold. "Great location just 7 minute walk from the station and not much more to Mall Road. Staff were very friendly and helpful especially the waiter in the kitchen. Safe in room actually worked (unlike some hotels I stayed at in India. Only minus was the very pushy receptionist who tried to force a 5 star review out of me before I left (she made me open Google Reviews and watched me typing - unfortunately for her I was all out of their allotted WiFi allowance (basically didn’t last a day and a half and I am not a heavy browser). So for that they lose a star."
