Very nice, newer cabin with 2 bedrooms.
This newer cabin is located near Hill City, South Dakota, and is at the center of everything the Black Hills has to offer!
Built on the original footprint of old Cabin 5, this cabin boasts great finishes such as tall vaulted ceilings throughout, reclaimed tin accents, quartz counter tops, and a closet that resembles a barn!
Whether sharing this cabin with kids, friends, or a snoring spouse, the two bedrooms on opposite ends of the building providing a little added privacy. On one end, the bedroom houses a new, comfortable king bed and a large closet made to resemble the side of a barn. The other bedroom is adjacent to the bathroom and is more cozy with a queen bed under a reclaimed metal ceiling. Linens are provided as well as nice comforters.
The one bathroom is sizeable with a 5 foot shower and a 4 foot vanity and more reclaimed metal on the ceiling. We provide towels, wash clothes, a floor mat, and hand towels. Upon request we will exchange used towels for fresh towels. Toilet paper and liquid hand soap are also provided but personal hygiene items such as shampoo and body wash are not. A hair dryer is available upon request.
The open concept kitchen includes a 24" refrigerator/freezer, over the range microwave, and an induction cook top. The kitchen is stocked with pots, pans, cooking utensils, dishware, cups, and a coffee maker. Coffee, sugar, and creamer are provided. Dish soap, a dish scrubby, and a dish towel are provided as well as paper towels. The hickory cabinets support a large peninsula with a large nice single basin sink and also provide seating for four guests.
In the living room area guests will find a couch and chair for lounging after a long day of sight seeing. An elongated electric fireplace for additional heat or ambience sits below the wall-mounted television with Dishnetwork to provide additional entertainment.
Air conditioning is provided in the living room and ceiling fans will be throughout the cabin to help keep things comfortable during the summer. In the cooler months a combination of a heat pump, cove heaters, and the electric fire place keeps this tiny cabin nice and toasty.
Outside there is a picnic table, charcoal barbecue, fire pit, and refreshing views of the surrounding thick pine forest of the Black Hills. You will also see our free range chickens roaming the property. Both firewood and fresh eggs are available for purchase on site. Charcoal and lighter fluid that other guests have left may be available at no charge.

The property was located in Hill City which was perfect for our trip. Matt was super nice and very helpful. The cabin was wonderful... Perfect for us. A little kitchen for breakfast and dinner. We would definitely recommend the cabin to others and I would definitely stay again.
Our stay here was so much fun! The cabin is so nice and has everything you need. It’s also in a nice location that is close to the city. We would definitely stay here again!
The cabin looked exactly like the photos, was spotless, and very comfortable. The Hosts were so nice and accommodating. The location is fantastic! We will definitely stay here again!
Needed a couple nights to stay in this area. The couple was very accommodating. They recommended places for us to eat which was wonderful. I would highly recommend these cabins
Our hosts were so friendly and gracious. The cabin was clean, cozy, and in the perfect central location as a home base while we explored the Black Hills. Five stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Cannot say enough about Matt and Beth - excellent, responsive, friendly, and informative hosts. Our cottage was extremely clean, cute, and well done. Enjoyed the resident chickens and dogs too!
Cabin was clean and modern, location was great. Hosts were very friendly at chek-in, but then we didn't see them again during our stay. Our kids really enjoyed the chickens!
The property is in a great central location!!! It was clean and provided a great refuge to come home to after a busy day exploring!! The hosts were kind and very help!!!
Next time we venture to the black hills we will definitely stay here again!!
Loved our time in this cozy little home/cabin just outside of Hill City. It could not have been more perfect. The couple that owns these properties live onsite and are available to answer any questions. They have a bunch of chickens which were super fun for my son to feed each day. Also there is a small lake within walking distance that my son loved to fish at. The home is updated, clean and beds are super comfy. Highly recommend staying here!
I cannot say enough good things about our stay. The hosts were incredible. Made you feel like friends or family. Communication was top notch and the cabin… exactly as it appeared in pictures! Beautiful, clean and comfortable. The location is perfect for visiting the Black Hills, Mount Rushmore and Custer State Park. We cannot wait to come back and stay again!
A truly wonderful experience. My kids and I stayed at Cabin 1. The pictures online are exactly as appears when we arrived in-person. It is beautiful, clean and feels brand new. The Kenaston Family were gracious and helpful hosts during our 4 night stay. The location is perfectly located in the area as well. Memories to last a lifetime.
The owners are very nice and the cabin was excellent! They had anything that you need and many items that are not expected. Beds were comfortable. The heating was wonderful and included a fireplace. For a very picky 60 year old this was a perfect place. It is convenient to anything Custer. Shout out to Silver Dollar. The owners suggested and was spot on for amazing food.
Beth and Matt are wonderful Hosts! The lodging was perfect, and So Central to our Mt. Rushmore, Custer State Park, Cave Tours, 1880 Train to Keystone, Mt. Rushmore Tramway Adventures......and so much more.
What a beautiful place to stay. Beth and Matt were so welcoming and their communication was quick and very helpful when planning our stay.
We will be back! Three days was not enough! Thank you so much Beth and Matt, can't wait to see all of the cool upgrades you do between now and then! Thank you!
Cabin 5 at Robins Roost was awesome, and the owners of the property for the last 7 years are amazing! This cabin is the only one I believe that is as updated and modern as it was. Very cute, clean, with amazing fireplace, "mini-split" heater and a/c in main room. All of the other rooms, they said were "cove heat" and each room had its own thermostat, which was great because we enjoy our bedroom cool (we stayed in April and were able to open our windows, which was SO NICE!) but bathroom warm. This cabin has 2 bedroom and they are on opposite sides of the main room, which is nice for a little extra privacy if traveling with others (or a for a break one night from a snoring hubby!) The owners thought of almost everything when updating this cabin, and I highly recommend it!
Just know that it IS a cabin more than a typical vrbo, so there are very few "added amenities". There are no condiments in fridge (but there is an amazing local grocery store called Krull's just inside Hill City, or bring groceries from Rapid City or your home. There are no little shampoo or soap bottles, no hair dryer or iron, etc. I also do not know how a person would plug in an electric car, especially with the small, awkward parking spot for this cabin (cannot have more than one vehicle parked up at this cabin, nor would a camper or trailer of UTV's fit near the trailer -- the owners MAY have an alternative spot you can park those, however- i would contact owner before considering any of these items.)
We had a great stay! It was perfectly located. It was cozy and beautifully decorated. New updates and we really appreciated the touch screen fireplace and heating in each room. You could tell they took time to reflect a rustic feel inside the cabin but also functional. Thank you so much!
Adorable cabin! Clean, comfortable, and cozy. Nicely decorated. Well stocked kitchen and comfortable beds. We enjoyed interior gas fireplace and a lovely campfire outside one of the nights. Great hosts.
