Franklin sits on a hill above the Little Tennessee River. The surveyors who chose the site in 1820 admired its beauty, laying out the town with Main Street facing the Cowee Mountains to the east and the Nantahala Range to the west. Though ringed by rugged summits, Franklin was linked to population centers by well-worn trails. It soon developed into the market center of southwestern North Carolina, a role it retains today, especially for the building trades, furniture, and jewelry. Richly blessed with gems and minerals, the town was once touted as the “Gem Capital of the World.” Franklin is also justly proud of its crafters, including quilters, woodworkers, potters, basket makers, and glass artists. The Franklin Press, founded in 1886, is the oldest business in the county. The Macon County Historical Society, operating in the old Pendergrass Store, and the Franklin Gem and Mineral Museum are perennial favorites with tourists. Franklin is also a gateway town for the Appalachian Trail, which passes nearby, attracting hikers almost year-round. Franklin showcases the rich commercial and community history of this North Carolina mountain town.

Sorry I missed it
Booked this property for me and several friends on ADV Bikes. Unfortunately, I got sick the day before the trip. My friends had a blast and kept face-timing me to show me how awesome the place was! The owner is very responsive and communicative. The house is exactly what it claims to be and the views are amazing. Will book this one again.

My Little Sisters College Graduation
My family and I came up to see our youngest sister graduate from Western Carolina University. Ridgetop Manor was the greatest place to spend time together as a family considering we had a party of 15 staying! The directions to get up to the cabin can be a little tricky to understand but once you find the correct road that leads you straight there, you won't forget it! The road is a single-car length wide, so you must be careful when driving either up or down! The driveway offered plenty of space for our vehicles to park and move around. The deck was beautiful, we were able to see the view of the Blue Ridge Mountains, We grilled out on the deck and were able to enjoy an amazing meal out there with the picnic table available! Every morning of our stay we all sat on the steps or the rocking chairs available to us and it was so peaceful! The living room, dining area, and kitchen are all in the same proximity of an open area that is great for those who want to sit at the kitchen area, at the dining room table, or even sit on the couch and all be a part of the same conversation. When it comes to reception, as an AT&T user, it worked great, but for others who had Verizon or T-Mobile, there was little to no service. We had a family 5k Fun Run and did laps in the driveway and had a blast! It was around 40 minutes away from WCU but it was worth the view, privacy, and space. Ridgetop Manor was a beautiful place to spend time as a family to cherish such great memories together!

Great Space!!
This house is amazing!! Jerry the owner was very helpful and available. I loved the views from the front and rear porches. It is a wilderness wonderland. If you are looking to get away from civilization this is it. The wind blowing thru the trees and all the bird calls, just amazing. The fire pit was great and Jerry provided firewood.

Family Christmas in the Mountains
2023 was a rough and sad year for my family. Spending Christmas at Ridgetop Manor was a break we very much needed. The home, the surroundings, the views were just amazing! We loved seeing the deer, the sunrise and the sunsets were amazing! We couldn't have asked for more. Jerry was wonderful to provide any and all information needed. He was also right about the drive up. The first day was intimidating for this Florida girl, but as he said every day afterwards was easy. We loved our week and look forward to another stay at Ridgetop Manor!

GORGEOUS
Omg!! What can’t I say about this place! Beautiful! The views are amazing!! Jerry is the best property owner I have ever rented from. Communication was spot on! We had a family of 16 staying here! It was our Polar Express trip! The grands thought we were staying at the North Pole AND Jerry helped make that happen ! He had the house decorated for Christmas! The house is gorgeous and has every amenity you can think of. We DEF. Will rent from him again! This was the best trip we have ever had as a family!

Magical family gathering
We wanted to have all the kids in one place for a rare gathering. Ridgetop Manner was the place! Stunning 360 views with lodge feel. So pretty, we had our wedding by the fire pit! Limited cell and WiFi facilitated lots of board games and bonding. Well-equipped kitchen for lots of meals together. Jerry was great, and he’s right, trust Waze to get you there. Yes, it looks like you are turning into the gem mine at the bottom! The drive was a little daunting the first time (and a little frightening for our party who came up the first time in the dark), but totally manageable. Our stay was all we dreamed of. If we can ever get everyone together again, we’ll definitely come back! Thanks, Jerry for sharing this lovely place.
