About this property

Dog-Friendly Sunny Cabin with a Big View w/Sauna!

  • Get ready for an elevated experience at Sunrise Cabin! This second-story cabin takes you up high--the whole space feels like a loft--and it’s optimised for an amazing view of Bark Bay on Lake Superior. It’s the perfect hangout spot, with one bedroom and tonnes of common space, plus a big yard for outdoor fun. SandyLand is also a great home base for exploring the South Shore, from the sea caves in Cornucopia to the beaches in Port Wing.

Your host runs Bark Point Ventures, a holiday rental management & concierge company that specialises in properties on Lake Superior's South Shore. We're nearby and we're always available to assist our guests. Our passion is ensuring guests experience the magic of the South Shore--what we feel is one of the most amazing places in the world.

Sunrise Cabin is on Bark Point, a spit of land that extends several miles out into Lake Superior. The point gives some shelter to Bark Bay, which is the gorgeous bit of water that the cabin faces. For a closer look at the bay, you can walk a little farther down Bark Point Road and check out the town boat landing. And to get your feet wet in the lake there’s no better spot than Herbster Beach, just a few minutes up the road, where you’ll find bathrooms and a playground and a picnic pavilion.

The other South Shore towns, Port Wing to the west and Cornucopia to the east, are both close by, both with their own beaches. Port Wing has an awesome coffee shop that roasts its own beans (we stock them in the house) and a great little convenience store with a fish counter. Cornucopia (or ‘Corny' as the locals call it) has an excellent coffee shop, a general store, and a few restaurants and shops. Bayfield is close by, too, about 45 minutes’ drive: perfect to check out the attractions over there then return to your South Shore oasis for another Superior sunset. Ashland, where you’ll find more stores and amenities, is just under an hour away. Duluth and Superior are a little over an hour to the west.

The sun pours through the windows at Sunrise Cabin. The cabin is on the second storey (it sits above a garage space), so when you arrive, the first thing you’ll do is head up the stairs and watch the common space open up around you. You’re under a sloped ceiling, and it feels like the entire cabin is a treehouse, hidden up in the trees. With its second-story perch and double sliding glass doors, plus a full-length deck, SandyLand is made for the spectacular view of Bark Bay on Lake Superior. Feel free to drop everything and go check it out! And then be sure to check out our brand-new wood-fired sauna, nestled at the edge of the woods steps from the cabin.

The cabin has an open plan layout that maximises hangout space for young and old, with a comfy sofa facing the lake and a gas stove to add a bit of het (and cosy vibes) on a chilly night. You'll love the TV nook, with its own sofa and a big smart screen: it’s perfect for film nights. There's also a magical pull-out sofa in the living room: it unfolds and inflates with a touch of a button! I know, you read "inflatable mattress" and think "Yuck," but trust us: this is the comfiest sofa bed we've ever experienced!

You’ll love the kitchen! It’s clean and bright and spacious. There’a a kitchen island with bar seating for two, and a full-size refrigerator and stove. The kitchen window even has its own view of the lake.

The primary bedroom is fully enclosed and private, but it shares the sloped ceiling with the rest of the cabin, for that perfect Northwoods sleeping loft vibe. It’s got a comfy queen bed and a dreamy view of evergreens out the window.

The bathroom is clean and spacious, with a corner shower and a window with a nice (and private) view.

There's outdoor fun to be had, too: a full-length deck to take in the view of the water, plus a big yard for games and hangouts under the stars.

Due to the lack of public transport and the distance between towns, a car is pretty much essential. But, on the plus side, traffic is not a concept we have up here!

While this home faces Bark Bay, it is not directly located on the waterfront.
This home is in the north woods: seasonal pests/bugs can be expected
This home is dog friendly: While we make a considerable effort to clean up pet hair between guests, there may still be a few stray hairs in the home.
Sauna use by persons 16+ only: Not advised for anyone who is pregnant, under the influence, or who may have a health condition such as high blood pressure that is contraindicated for its safe usage.

Very cute, dog and kid friendly house. Very friendly and communicative owners. Very clean, except for uncovered old dog waste in yard- understandable because of the melting snow.

The vrbo was cozy, squeaky clean, spacious with a huge kitchen and ultra comfy mattress and bedding. It was perfect for my husband and our dog. Was beautiful inside. Made use of the wood burning barrel sauna and loved it both times. All needs are carefully thought out and provided for. Loved that we could refill our waters with well water running in the tap. Saw lots of deer. Shower water pressure rather low but not a deal breaker. Thank you!!
