Great place for a getaway

The two of us stayed at "Butternut Camp" over Thanksgiving weekend, looking for a quiet holiday this year. The cabin was very inviting, comfortable and immaculately clean. The location between Seneca and Cayuga lakes is great - on the Finger Lakes wine trail and close to Watkins Glenn. We did some hiking in the Finger Lakes National Forest, which is beautiful this time of year. Would definitely stay again! Tim & Michele, Yonkers NY

Above and Beyond

My wife and I had car trouble in town and Henry and Sue made arrangement (with the help of their daughter, Denise) to pick us up and drive a half an hour outside of town so we could pick up a rental car. Besides just being great people, the properly was just so perfectly decorated and clean and comfy. Highly recommend!

Great Weekend Getaway

This was our first trip to the Finger Lakes and we lucked out on finding this gem! Perfect location for Watkins Glen State Park Hiking and hitting the wine trail. The place was cozy and comfortable. Very clean. The extra touches of the wood trim and fireplace made it feel like a warm log cabin. This was absolutely beautiful time of the year to come-the hiking, the beauty of the trees, and the lake just amazing. Sue and Henry are great hosts. Henry met us after we arrived and was friendly and helpful in recommending places in the area. Would definitely come back!

Peaceful, Perfect, and Even Better in Person! We had such a relaxing and memorable weekend at this beautiful lakeside cottage. It’s even prettier in person. Cozy, spotless, and stocked with essentials. The location was ideal for both adventure and downtime, and the price was just right! We kicked off our stay with a lovely evening at the nearby Stonecat Café with great food and live music in a relaxed setting. The next day, we hiked through Watkins Glen, enjoyed a laid-back lunch at The Oar House (Ruben was amazing!), and ended the day with a stunning sunset at Smith Park. We spent the following day at Smith Park again, relaxing by the lake and cruising around on our jetski. We wrapped it all up with a stop at the Ithaca Farmers Market on our way home. The hosts were amazing and quick to respond.A peaceful, picture-perfect getaway. Highly recommend!

Charming and perfect

Our son and fiancée stayed at this little cabin and were very happy with this option. Their faces lit up when we drove up. The setting is beautiful and the accommodations were comfortable. The owners were communicative and very helpful. We will be renting this place again for family if it is available. Thank you.

Perfect 5 year anniversary Getaway

This property was beautiful, located just a stone throw from the lakes edge. The owners were extremely friendly, the type of friendly you can only find in a small town. They gave excellent recommendations, we ate at both the Scale House and Babes Burgers during our visit. We enjoyed smores and coffee by the fire pit. All we could hear was the hundreds of birds, perfect place to get away. I feel like the photos on the listing dont capture the charm of the cabin so i took some myself. Thanks again Susan & Henry

Weeklong stay

We spent a week at Butternut Camp in Hector near Seneca Lake. Henry, one of the owners, was very nice and friendly during our stay. The place was very clean and well supplied including some ground coffee and cream in the refrigerator. Hector is a great home base for Watkins Glen, hiking trails and tons of wineries and breweries. There is a small view of Seneca Lake from the porch but there is no direct access in the neighborhood. It is nice to walk around the neighborhood. You will need to go to Smith Point Park to get public access which is just a few minutes away. The covered porch had a lovely table, chairs, and rocking chairs for us enjoy. The description of the VRBO listing indicates that it is a “Cozy - Cedar cabin with covered deck”. Cozy means very small and it is not a cabin, but actually a mobile home which was not mentioned in the description. The bedroom is very small with only enough room for the width of the night tables on either side of the queen sized bed with very little room at the end of the bed. The outside of the home, on the back and the sides had equipment, and debris including wood and piles of small rocks near the fire pit.

Great little cabin

The Butternut cabin was a great home base for us to explore the hiking and fishing that the Finger Lakes has to offer. It had everything we needed: A/C, comfy bed, coffee :). Recommend Watkins Glen if you like waterfalls. Have breakfast at Toni's Diner and dinner at Stonecat Cafe, you won't be disappointed!

Convenient Location to Beach and Watkins Glen

I was in town for a quiet weekend away and I got just that. This cabin is easy to get to, very close to Smith Memorial Park to actually get in Lake Seneca on a hot day, and convenient to wineries (if that's your main reason for being in the Finger Lakes). Check in was quick and easy. AC was nice and cool and speedy - cooled the place down so quickly. The bed was very soft and comfy. The only issue I had was the internet kept going down, especially if I had multiple devices connected. I wasn't there to watch much TV but that was when I really noticed it being slow, or kicking me off. The provided sugar, coffee and fresh half/half was a nice touch.
